  1. I f a competitor like C$B$C$S stuck in their craw and they could deliberately grade "tighter" so that grades of their competitors than become less those graded in the same grade by CGC. By sure volume and market share this would be possible. I think if they made their grading criteria public or used a universally accepted method i.e. Overstreet it would be more transparent.
  2. I agree. It shouldn't be some mystery. I buy more 9.6 books than 9.8 simply because I can't justify double the price. I think 9.6 books look every bit as nice as 9.8 in most cases.
  3. Great books god packing and fast shipment. Thanks!
  4. Reasonable prices, great packing and quick shipment. Thanks!
  5. I had a 181 I got from a kid down the street from around 1983. It was rough, faded brittle and creased etc. I was actually going to throw it away recently but decided to put it on ebay with a .99 starting bid. It sold for over $300. I was shocked.
  6. I can confirm what you are saying. Item 142456714238 I purchased below the listed $199.
  7. oh I agree. Totally. I quite my subscription earlier this year when I realized how many books it misses among the titles I collect.
  8. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIANT-SIZE-X-MEN-1-8-0-1ST-NEW-X-MEN-CREAM-TO-WHITE-PAGES-1975-/371821286126?hash=item56924692ee%3Ag%3AsB4AAOSw241YXFTm&nma=true&si=s3eXH0XHr9EMGoHdM%2F5UtgS%2Bpw8%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 I know this is six months old but I pulled it from a conversation I had with George. At the time it took about 5 minutes to find an example of a book with no CGC mentioned in the title. Definitely a book people are interested in stats for.
  9. Whether I want/like something I still want to get the best price for it. I compare price shop a lot because unlike cereal (Alaska and Hawaii excluded), comic prices vary greatly from person to person. One book I wanted varied in price by $150. I could technically afford the extra $150 but was glad to keep it in my pocket for the next purchase etc.
  10. A raw book listed on eBay that says CGC 9.6 in the headline like "Amazing Spider-Man 152 possible CGC 9.8" may vary well be picked up by GPA as to how they gather information. Likewise a book listed with out reference in the headline but spelled out in the body of the listing may very well NOT be caught by GPA. If you know that going into it then you use it as a tool to help you but not a definitive source.
  11. I only look at those which I bid on as reference at CL.
  12. Some of those listed are substantially higher than both auction prices (comic link) and GPA. Others I am unfamiliar with, Thanks for the list.
  13. http://www.watchcount.com/ Does not show the accurate selling price when items are purchased in this manner as well. I offered $190 on a $199 item and it shows in GPA as $199 as well as watchcount.
  14. Yes I use this all the time. As recently as last week. Got a book for $50 less than the asking price on buy it now.
  15. GPA has never been the Gospel and I can go find inaccuracies at any time. GPA is a good tool but you as a buyer/seller need to do your own due diligence and buy/sale at what you think is fair. One seller I know ties their for sale books to GPA but regularly ask 30% more of last 90 day average. So I imagine they are using other sources also to set price (or just gouging lol). What you point out is just another reason not to accept GPA as gospel. It is a good starting point though.
  16. No difference just a different description. Some say Manufactured with "Tattooz" insert & sample and some say "Tattooz" inside. One of my favorite covers. Grats.
  17. Those are serious books and anyone buying them understands. I don't think it would hurt interest. You can send it to C$B$C$S which has a verification service if you don't like the bright green of a label.
  18. I am sure some folks do live further away from the post. Like you I live in a small town with one blocks away. Until recently I commuted 50 miles to work each day so I get it (but there was a post on the Air Force Base I was at which made it convenient sometimes).
  19. Honestly I can't imagine it taking more than 3 business days to get to the post office. Anything I put on eBay is already boxed and ready to go, I just need to print the shipping label. I can understand the neutral because the person receiving the package is probably more excited about getting it than the seller is getting to the post office to send it. I don't think the "full of excuses" comment is necessary though.
  20. Issue 55 and 46 are two of my favorite covers. Thanks for sharing.
