  1. It's funny how two people can see the same thing and one likes it and one doesn't. Like visual taste buds.
  2. I don't mind buying books graded by c$b$c$s. Two companies opinions. Instead of grading tighter/looser how about grading accurately on a universal grading scale. Overstreet's grading criteria is well thought out and well explained. Keeping collectors in the dark as to what gets a book kicked down to a 9.6 from a 9.8 doesn't help anyone but the grading company. If an ASM #5 is graded a 8.5 then resubmitted to the same company and gets a 7.5 then the grading notes should reflect it. I assume that there would be more defects listed. I just wish they would be more transparent with their grading standards. Just my opinion.
  3. I love his old stuff. When he got teamed up with Klaus Janson (sp) it took a dive. I don't know if he was trying to modernize his style but it is not very good in my opinion.
  4. That one may be by Rik Levins actually. Sorry I forgot that one of these is not by Lim.
  5. Hi all, I typically do not collect OA but have some Captain America pages, mostly Ron Lim. I have had them for a long time, 10 years maybe. I was just wondering if anyone out there can give me a ballpark on what these might be worth. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  6. I had Graham crakes send me a box once a month with all my pulls. They sent me fantastic condition books and only missed 1 book in 4 years. Nearest store is 40 minutes away so I prefer to get them from GCC. They have treated me well.
  7. Nice process! I did get a press off of Craigslist for $175. Given the number of books I have done it has more than paid for itself. I think I have one of those GI Combats!
  8. In all seriousness though don't crush the spine!
  9. You need a dry press. Check out some SEAL commercial dry presses but any decent one will work. One that has a temp readout is preferable otherwise use the lowest setting. Also, check out bp21-15.pdf. Just google it and it will be at the top probably or search for practical considerations for humidifying paper. There are a couple youtube videos to get you started. Beyond that it is practice practice practice. You won't get any help from folks who make money off of it. I do pretty well but on high value books I send out to http://www.cfpcomics.com, Joe is on these boards and does a great job. I personally do not like CSS.
  10. Picked this one up this week. I always liked this cover. I sold my original owner copy 2 years ago and regretted it ever since. Now I have a replacement. White pages too!
  11. Totally. If you have ever seen an offset press in action its amazing the ink only goes where it is supposed to. When the ink goes elsewhere on a printed page it isn't as obvious because it has ink saturation already but in white space it is really obvious. If you start flipping through interior pages you will start noticing printer defects fairly regularly. Running an offset press is as much technical skill as it is an art. I would have that book in my collection and not think twice about it. But its in YOUR collection so only you can decide if it is ok. Some folks have to have only 9.8 for instance and 9.6's are sub par to them. I am happy to have 9.6's in my collection because the difference in the two in my opinion is usually not perceptible without a magnifier glass. Every collectors condition tolerance is different..
  12. Printer artifact. I imagine it did not really count against grade. If so only minimally. Nice book!
  13. ugh. FF on the big screen is awful. They haven't been handled well yet! To me there were two primary camps in Marvel; Cosmic and non cosmic. I was not in the cosmic camp but read them anyway. If it were handled more like how Guardians was I think it would have been more successful. Also, very few people have written doom well in the comic books let alone the big screen. When done correctly it is awesome. I was partial to JB's run on the book. Doom in secret wars was good too.
  14. Nice book! This is a tough one to grade without handling it. The yellow cover makes it difficult for me to see defects. 7.5-8.5 in my opinion.
  15. Looks a bit rough to me. If it were mine I would keep it as a reader and shop a pre-slabbed book to display. Without seeing the inside I estimate GD/VG 3.0 - VG 3.5. It has multiple color breaking cover creases, FC Stains, FC corner missing, staple tears, and blunted corners. This is one of my favorite spidey books. I have one in about the same condition that I pull out and read now and again.
  16. CL Rule #1 is deal locally. To avoid scams meet in person. I have never bought anything on there I couldn't go pick up.
  17. I bought a pgx Thor 337 9.8 which is probably a 9.6/9.8. I just like the book and probably will never resale. I don't usually shop them because of the public disdain for them.
  18. Does it still max out at NM-? Not very useful to me as the dealers I shopped at C2E2 were asking 30% or more over guide for non keys of what may or may not have been above NM-.
