  1. The book I am referencing was raw just to clarify. I do expect dealers at cons to at least be priced in the same ballpark. I will pay a little higher for a book I get to inspect right in front of me and I would prefer to purchase from dealers I like. I keep very detailed information on what I buy and from who and for how much. I like going back to those people I get fair deals with. Online or at cons.
  2. And I bought a 9.6/9.8 99 online for $9. Why would I go to a con if this has been my experience? C2E2 will probably be my only buying con. I will go to WW St. louis because my son likes going but I doubt it lasts past this year and it is a horrible buying con.
  3. I feel like you are attacking me a bit. You are implying that I expect high grade books to be sold half guide. Which is not the case. I will pay what I believe is fair pricing. I will give you a example. Dealer had IM 99 with a sticker of $60. Guide is $15 for a 9.2 so what is this dealer representing with that price? I can tell you it wasn't a 9.8 candidate. With discount dealer wanted $52. If you think that is a good deal I have a lot of comics to sell to you. IM is notoriously unloved and I can pick up great books under guide all day long online. One of the reasons I like IM is its affordability.
  4. Silver and Bronze age Iron man. I am not going to name anyone because they are members here.
  5. Perhaps but I can usually find what I want online. It may take some patience but the books I want seem to come around. Especially raw books. Last C2E2 I went to, the nice raw books were like 30% over guide or more.
  6. I imagine Wizard will be done in a year or 18 months. I have never liked Wizard. I never liked their magazine or what they have done to cons. when their done someone will scoop up the shows worth anything and the rest will disappear. I will go to WW St. Louis because it is practically in my back yard but it isn't a good show for comics. I prefer to buy my books at a con as I like to go through boxes but in reality I buy mostly over the internet so it wouldn't be surprising that dealers sales may be down at these shows. I imagine a lot of people buy that way.
  7. I think 7.0-7.5 is mid grade but there is a difference to me buying a 7.5 ASM 432 and a ASM 33. One I don't want and the other I would be ecstatic to own. Grade is secondary.
  8. Why do you think it is about greed? Charging what the market will bare is good business. vis-a-vis The market usually sets the price, too high no one is buying and too low you go out of business or in this case get a hand injury from signing too many sigs. for someone making 200k+ annually that $120 seems less of a big deal. Some people miss out because they are priced out of the market. I would love to see my favorite baseball team right behind home plate but it isn't ever going to happen because either I can't afford it or I am unwilling to pay that kind of money for it.
  9. I think CGC has more recently weaponized their grades to make the other company's grades look sub par. I think a 9.8 can have one faint stress mark. After all a 9.8 isn't a perfect book. When buying raw I prefer to buy books with no spine stress lines whether they are 9.8 or 9.0 because they bug me.
  10. Tony Moore would not be charging that if no one was biting. Clearly there is a demand or he hates his work on TWD and doesn't want to sign any of it so he puts a crazy high price on it but the former is more likely imo.
  11. Don't get me wrong. I have a few sigs like on the pic below of my invite to the marvel holiday party and I do own one SS CGC book. I just don't think its a problem if someone wants x dollars for it. My daughter paid for a signed picture of one of the original wonka kids and asked if she could take a picture of them. The woman said "well wouldn't you want to be in it?" and came out and handed the camera to Mike TV and took a great pic of them both. Now I would say in that instance the autograph price was worth it because my daughter remembers the interaction which is what most people want with autographs. IMO.
  12. That is the crux of it I think. People should not expect something that has intrinsic value like a Frank miller sig on DK 1 for free. IF Frank Miller believes his sig is worth $125 and some people can't afford that then who's problem is that? I saw Gene Simmons of KISS at a Chicago con and he was charging over $100 for an autograph. Now, I don't understand how this was worth his time as he is estimated to have over 100 million but he wants to make some more so I don't begrudge him asking whatever he wanted and plenty of people were lined up.
  13. What does creators being paid to be at con have to do with it? People want something from them that is unique to them. I am sure there are times they give it away for free. I bet If I bumped into someone outside a con and asked them to sign a napkin or whatever they would. I don't understand what the appeal is to having someone's signature on a witnessed slab. If you are there and you witness it why do you need another person to "verify" it? Just so a company will put a yellow label on it?
  14. Whatever the market will bare. If I am trying to make my living as a working artist and people dig something I worked on why not? especially for something that can be flipped for profit even if your not. Personally I will never pay for someone's signature...well I did pay David Prowse $5 for one in the early 90's because I felt bad no one was asking for his but the pornstar in the booth next to him was 30 deep.
  15. I think it is overvalued. Few people cared about it until the word dropped of there being a TV show. Yeah, Marvels first Black character created by two white guys. Wait a sec so was Black Panther. At least Black Lightning was co-created by a non Caucasian. Those early Black heroes were just goofy IMO. It wasn't until Dwayne McDuffie and company created Milestone did the stories get more authentic again IMO. I think the black cover and few high grade copies helped create a supply/demand imbalance. It is a cool cover that looks great in high grade. I think the very high grade copies will stay somewhat high but if you paid 24k for a 9.8 your not going to make a profit on it.
  16. Mysteries of the universe. 5.Who really shot JFK 4.Who built the Sphinx 3.Where is Jimmy Hoffa buried 2.Is there a supreme deity 1.How are comic books pressed
  17. I have been waiting for an ASM 101 9.6 white pages for a long time.
  18. After I decided to rebuild my ASM I decided to start with ASM keys above 100. Amongst that I wanted to complete a 9.6 white page run from 120-130. I am almost done with that but for keys ASM 100 and 101 remain elusive. My current ASM keys are 121,122,129,194x2, 300 @ 9.6W and 238,250,252x2,293,294,298,299,316,360,362 @9.8W. I try and get 9.8 above 200 and 9.6 from 100-200 and I haven't started going back any farther. It is going to be awhile before I go below issue 100 but I was thinking that I would try for NM back to issue 70 and 8.5 down to issue 20 and then best copy I can afford. I would keep the X-Men 1 and your giant size. I don't think an AF 15 is worth it to me because I would never be able to afford the grade I would be happy with (probably 7.5)
  19. Thank you to those offering their thoughts. I am going to order 1000 mylites2 and full backs tomorrow. I use collection drawer boxes so I will probably order some more also because of the thickness. I don't like packing them tight so I have 5 short drawer boxes currently that hold my IM books.
  20. Yeah, most of my OO books that survived my basement taking on water that I get graded come back white pages. So 1-3 years is maybe too aggressive AND expensive. But 35 years I am SURE is too long!
