  1. Since the vast majority of my meager post count has happened in this thread, I feel like I should let you know that I’ve been cheating on you… Wait, don’t throw that, let me explain…no it wasn’t with your sister… Yeah, I was drunk - me, Billy & Jeff had a great night out and I must have come home and logged into eBay. I have no memory of it, but I bought a Marvel Mystery Comics 28 in CGC 6.0. Didn’t know it for 2 days until I logged into my email account and saw the invoice. Once I saw the time of the purchase, I put 2 and 2 together and realized it was a classic drunken purchase. Yes, I could have sent it back with some lame excuse about you not letting me buy it, but once I got it, I sorta liked it. It was almost like a PHM cover on steroids-so many colors and actions compared to the fairly minimalist art of the PHM era. No, you’re not fat… I hid it in the back of the short box for a while hoping you wouldn’t see it. When you went out, I would glance at the Timely auctions on Clink or CC. Then erase my browser history… Every now and then, when there was no PHM book I wanted in the auction, I bought a Timely, Schomburg, Human Torch on the cover book (preferably a pre-WWII book)… You didn’t see them ‘cause I shipped them to the office…. No, I didn’t have anything else shipped to the office and you’re sister wasn’t involved…. Well, the affair has been going on for the last 3 years… Wait, don’t throw that either…. Anyway, in the last big Clink auction I picked up the Human Torch Comics #2/#1 to complete my mini-run : Wait , what?? You want a divorce????? Think about little Googam and Titano…. Yes, I sought help in the GA forums and they enrolled me in their 12 step program. With some further counseling, I think I can control this… No, your sister isn’t on the GA forums either…. I’m sorry, I know you deserve better – just can’t go on like this anymore. I know, it’s the couch for me tonight…. -bc
  2. My mailman had to deal with GOOM : [edit - first attempt at posting failed} Thank you Bronty ! -bc
  3. To me : education, community, endless rabbit holes of books & genres to explore, sales threads, event notices and more education. This place is like the LinkedIn for panelologists. Got started here just like others - was going to buy a book on eBay and saw a slabbed copy and had to learn more. Got hooked on PunyHuman's Pre-Hero Marvel thread in the Silver Age section, watching BronzeAgeFan complete his 20 30 year run of Marvel comics and seeing all the amazing pedigree books. And yes, there have been some very interesting characters and some great entertainment value along the way! Its been part of my daily internet habit for years. Hope it continues! -bc
  4. Great first GA pickup -beautiful copy ! Be careful - my addiction started with a Marvel Mystery Comics #28 (in CGC 5.0 as well!). -bc
  5. Real sweet books man! All in 2 days ? I'd be leaving a six pack for the mail person -bc
  6. I have fully embraced the GA addiction... This goes with its siblings: -bc
  7. Very nice copies! Hmmmm..."714" on the cover of that TTA12 ....wasn't that a 'lude reference back in the day? -bc/bcambier
  8. I've been wondering that myself since the dates were announced. I can only assume they got a great price and had to cut cost. Seriously poor planning - would have been better if it were at the IX Center or somewhere less than 2 blocks away from the parade route on Friday. Parking will be a nightmare then. Might head in on Saturday, Cavs are on the road that weekend so it may be a good day to sneak into downtown. Good luck to the dealers! -bc
  9. Fast shipping, solid grading, easy communications - will look forward to more purchases! Love the pull-tabs on the tape to make it easy to remove from the packaging! Thanks! -bc
  10. Pray for his quick recovery and extremely thankful for pieces like this that I enjoyed exploring for hours: -bc
  11. Only other pickup from this months CLink auction : -bc
  12. 2 for 3 (due to falling asleep)...glad to snag this early PHM Kirby cover in a decent grade : Congrats to the winner of the JIM52 ! Another book that's tough to find a midgrade copy. -bc
  13. Gorgeous book Rick! Grabbed this in the Clink auction. Know this is the least popular of the PHM titles, but really glad to finally get this issue in a decent grade : -bc
  14. I cycled thru the accumulation-liquidation cycle several times as a PC (peak was about 35 longboxes). Might have been going from 70's to '60's or title to title, or SA to GA. Picked a collecting focus in 2009 and finally have whittled down the collection to 95% of being "in-focus". Do I ever fall off the "focus wagon"? Most definitely. But try to be much more strategic with those purchases or find a cheap trade/reprint to enjoy that material. As you said, it's all about how much time to put in versus the enjoyment you get out of the hobby. Plus, I like the smaller footprint that a focused collection allows compared to needing an entire room-just easier as you look forward to lugging longboxes around less and less. As long as you enjoy the collection, that's all that really matters. -bc
  15. Great reference to a classic flick! I'm also having trouble finding a high grade copy of both this and ST75....but the hunt continues ! -bc
  16. Picked up 3 sweet books from Phil. Good pricing, solid grading, fast secure shipping. Look forward to your next sales thread ! -bc
  17. I agree Think most of the "prototype" claims came from a comfortable stock of characters that the artists were able to crank out on a monthly basis. This meets both company deadlines and pays the bills. As an example - kav's thread in CG about AAF14 having so many Spiderman related prototypes. Those were just characters Ditko utilized regularly in other stories. It's still really cool to see the evolution/development of the characters (or character ideas) from one period to the next -bc
  18. Welcome to 2017 ! To start the new year, just grabbed this : It has the same numbering (104??) on the inside cover (above the CCA stamp) as a couple of other slabs I have. Also grabbed a handful of raw books off Philreal and a TTA2 from Dale's recent sales thread. Missed that Colossus issue that Vintage sold yesterday. Hope everyone had a great holidays ! -bc
  19. Let's see if I can answer the questions: The deceased was a butcher at the West Side Market for over 2 decades and most recently worked at a local auto dealership. I told the family that I would put forth an effort to provide some guidance on their best course of action and I try to uphold my promises. Not looking to make any $$$ and I sincerely appreciate the advice & guidance offered by this diverse group. I couldn't fit this stuff in my house if I tried and the thought of parsing this out is not for me as I have more than a full time job/career already. The Hummel doll was a gift from a relative. As far as where are the comics? Trust me, that's why I drove for almost 3 hours thru a snow storm to check it out. I'm still holding out a glimmer of hope that those are yet undiscovered upstairs or in a storage unit. Judging by the dust, nothing was recently removed. Boxes were still taped closed and some containers were taped shut. Again, he could have sold valuables prior. Seems they have 2 choices: 1. Auction house - probably quickest term, decent FMV return depending on advertising 2. Appraisal service - little longer term, better FMV return Thanks for the help & advice everyone you guys rock -bc
  20. Every year I do a drawing challenge in October called Monster Month. I started doing it in 2009 and have been plugging away at it every year since. This year, somehow, I ended up doing a month of Kirby/Marvel monsters. Many of then were pre-hero designs. It made me want to start to pick up some of those books. It started with this drawing of GOOM and went until the end of the month. Those are so cool - thanks for sharing Gargantus' lips should be fuller -bc
