  1. Some JIM pics: JIM69 starts the 10 cent circle : Hope this helps, -bc
  2. Fascinating thread ! As I only collect Pre-Hero Marvels, I'll get the camera fired up to add to the data set. This goes thru many of the western titles as well. After reading this thread, I went to the Akron Comicon this Sunday and just thumbed thru boxes looking for the different price sizes & white boxes. There were plenty of different versions from one dealer to the next - this appears to be more isolated to a cover date timeframe from June/July 1960 to June/July 1961 when they went with the tradition large circle for the price (June-July 1961 cover dates). Pics posted later! -bc
  3. Now that I'm sober, have to comment again how nice this book is And it has the "small price", if you're following the JIM65 thread in CG..... -bc
  4. And to think that I almost posted this cheap pickup from the Akron Comicon to give this thread a bump: -bc
  5. Gorgeous copy ! Congratz on the pickup! -bc
  6. The lower and mid-grades seem to be loosening a bit but I think its a supply heaviness. There has been a glut of those slabbed books hitting the market over the last year (on top of a "well represented" raw market). I'll run a census comparison report tonight to see how many books have hit the census the last 6, 12, 18 & 24 months compared to what I've noted in this thread in the past. The high grade books seem to be generally holding within a band: 8.0 $250-$500 8.5 $500-$1000 9.0 $1,000-$1,500+ 9.2 $1,500+ 9.4 Again, that's based on scarcity & issue (more for Groot & Fin Fang Foom, ST97, #1s, etc.). Never thought that the demand was that great for these books anyway and as more people fill runs & complete sets, the demand will decrease until new blood moves in. It's only 164 books with no consecutive heroes, villains or hosts - more about the artists, writers, style & timeframe (similar to PCH). A little different supply/demand relationship than trying to complete a run of Action, ASM or Tecs or any superhero title with multi-generational appeal that continually cultivates a new audience with multimedia. Just my -bc After checking the census changes for the PHM titles for the last 12 months, the supply has not statistically deviated from the historic norms of approximately 85-100 new books added per month across all grades since 2014 (coincidence that it picked up from 60-75 books a month the before the GotG movie came out?). In the past 12 months additions, about 80% have been in the 3.5 to 6.5 range, 10% above and 10% below those grades. This only accounts for CGC graded books, of course, but I am noticing more and more of the other companies slabs on the market every month which would incrementally increase the supply side. Maybe the demand is waning while the supply is steady or slightly higher? (thanks to KirbyJack) -bc ps- Cubs are looking good tonight mysterio
  7. It's almost like her clothes are floating away....very neat book! -bc
  8. Your explanation is much more concise -bc

  10. Let's get this back to page 1 My first slabbed AAF: -bc
  11. Very well done ! Enjoyed the con story and happy to see the classic Superman issue ! -bc
  12. You've posted a ton of gorgeous books in these "Top cover of 196x" threads Hepcat! Thanks for sharing! -bc
  13. Thanks! Since my camera skills are poor when it comes to group shots, put together a Vault 2016 compilation : Went from 34 issues same time last year to 66 this year - the small game hunt continues -bc
  14. Too easy.... 1. That years model of the spaceship only came with limited slip posi-traction which would require 2 engines, not one central engine. The engine exhaust should be coming from the two rear side ports, the back hatch is just the garbage dump. 2. The third plant from the SW corner of South America is blue, not white... every 3rd grader knows that. -bc PS - cool thread
  15. the one eyed thing is Monstrom from TTA11, wasn't on cover, sneaky... -bc
  16. Think Blip and Goom, Abominable Snowman and Grottu are in back row. Vandoom and Orrgo in next row Broccoli-head, Googam and no idea on the one eyed thing in next row Colossus or Rommbu and Groot on bottom -bc
  17. Very, very smooth transaction with fantastic communication. Fast shipping and great packaging ! Looking forward to future purchases -bc
  18. Got a couple of upgrades from Chay to add to the Vault (sorry 'bout the glare) : -bc
  19. I think it's Goom in the lower right and Grottu in the lower left (purple bug thing). Not sure if the upper left is Colossus, Groot or Thorr (or anyone of the stone men/Easter Island types). Upper center maybe Monstrollo or Gorgilla? Then Fin Fang Foom (upper right) , Devil Dinosaur (right center). Just guesses, -bc
  20. Is this Marvel jumping the Titano? Are they going to make Sserpo a transgender, Hydra sympathizer who self-identifies as a daughter of Moomba? (I am not judging or condemning any of those things btw). The whole fun of the PHM books were that they didn't have superheroes, just semi-normal people, who through a quirky plot line, managed to survive and learn a lesson or two. Big monsters with big splash pages helped fill the space for all those 5 page stories they cranked out on a monthly basis. What's next from the House of Ideas - the Incredible Hulk and Ant-man caught in a love triangle with Millie....? Two Gun Kid joins Guardians of the Galaxy in a Star Wars cross-over fiesta with 87 variant covers? Glad it will draw attention to the genre I enjoy, but with their recent track record, probably be buying these from the $1 box in a year (unless they make a movie series).... -bc ps - comicdey: I'd actually be more interested in a coffee table book of updated pin-ups of all the classic PHM monster splash pages
  21. Congratulations mysterio! Looks to be a very nice presenting copy of a classic on many of our want lists! -bc
  22. I agree 100% - in fact, last time I looked there were more dark circled copies slabbed than the white circle. What would be rare is one with the original 10cent price not printed over. Have to imagine a handful where printed before they decided to change the price -bc
  23. Journey into Mystery 76 question..... Did the dark circled copy come out before the white circle 12 Cent version or the other way around? Or was it more of an issue between print runs? Dark circle version: Pretty clearly see that the dark circled copy had 10 cents under it originally and then it was covered and the 12 cents was printed in the "M" in Mystery. The 10 cents was using the traditional font for the time (thick characters) The 12 cent white label doesn't use the normal font (thin characters) that was used in the 10 cent and in later 12 centers: And where does this fit on the timeline or is it just a foreign copy that isn't part of the pricing change equation (more like the thin font of the white label): Thanks for any info! -bc EDIT: Just noticed that all the other PHM 10 to 12 cent price changes happened in Feb 62 (ST93, TOS26, TTA28, AAF9) - JIM76 was cover dated Jan 1962 and was on the newsstands in Nov '61 according to the GCD.
