  1. Think it's because it is the first issue after the Atlas implosion of '57 and likely had poor distribution. From the GCD: "This is the first issue of Strange Tales published after a publication hiatus caused by the collapse of Atlas's distributor and the subsequent restructuring known as the "Atlas Implosion". This is the last issue with stories bearing the "One of the Strangest Tales Ever Told!" logo used since 1952 on their first page. This may indicate the use of inventory pre-implosion stories." ST59 had a cover date of July 1957, ST60's cover date was 5 months later at December 1957 (not as long as the gap between JIM 48 and JIM 49 which were 15 months apart!). World of Fantasy 8 and 9 also have a 4 month gap due to the implosion. Even the Strange Tales from '58 (#61-66) are elusive in decent shape. Once the Kirby art starts in ST68 (April 59), you can find more copies available but high grade is still tough to find. And yes, ST60 has a VERY cool Everett cover -bc
  2. At this point in my collecting cycle, I had to select "Other" Would rather have Strange Tales before the Human Torch & Dr Strange/Fury, would rather have TOS & TTA before Iron Man/Sub-mariner & Ant-Man/Hulk, would rather have JIM before Thor. Those have been very challenging books to find in decent shape. Just my opinion, but its more hunting with the 50's Marvels than opening ebay.com and making a purchase of an Avengers 23 or X-Men 17 in a specific grade. Had almost all the first 100 issues of all the post-63 superhero titles at one point or another - never really lamented selling any because there were replacements readily available. If I just could have kept a few keys to see the money they would get today But as always - collect what you enjoy! -bc
  3. That's truly a tough issue to find in general, just got this rag: -bc
  4. Those are some darn good keepers Treat 'em kindly with some new bags & boards. You're PHM sales thread was a blast! Gave me a chance to add more to my "boardies" PHM sub-collection. I'm still about 11 books away from the complete PHM set in floppy format, and about 68 short in high-grade CGC versions, but still chipping away (in between my Pre-WW2 Schomburg Human Torch cover fetish). I should probably sell the 40 or 50 PHM undercopies I've accumulated along the way some time - think I got 4 sets of Amazing Adventures, 3 sets of Amazing Adult Fantasy and almost 3 sets for Strange Worlds alone. Let's see some close ups when those have their new skins -bc
  5. Looks like Batman hit him in the jaw which could cause a lesser amount of ricochet compared to a hit off the skull like the others Still needs an asterisk. -bc
  6. Thank you very much ! Saw the highest graded copies are a trio of 7.5's. Figure they'll never see the light of day since this title is so popular across several genres. Plus (the subjective) page quality is good, so this one may stay in the Vault for a while. Got 2 raw copies (probably a 2.0 and a 3.5), but this one is much nicer. Did you get anything from the Berk collection? -bc
  7. Picked up a solid placeholder in this months CLink auction. -bc
  8. Agree with this but also have to add that a collector usually puts some effort or pride into the storage/display/presentation of their items. Just check out some of the awesome comic rooms that boardies have built. Even if your collection is just neatly archived in boxes in a closet, it's organized. Hoarders appear to have an issue with organization and like artboy99 said, parting with their mess. -bc
  9. Since it took me a few clicks to find it, thought I'd share: http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/5476230122001/?playlist_id=3166411554001#sp=show-clips -bc
  10. Like your style! Big fan of the Black Knight & Yellow Claw series! -bc
  11. As a Pre-Hero Marvel junkie, I was extremely happy to pick these up -bc
  12. Know many of you are following the Berk collection being auctioned off on ComicConnect - super excited to snag these PHMs from his collection -bc
  13. Gratz! I was the under under under bidder on that Amazing Mysteries 32 ! -bc
  14. Close enough to still get full credit - "ghillie" suit See your point, but its still based on each persons perceived point of when they get a "deal". To my grandmother, driving 20 minutes to save 5 cents on a gallon of milk is a "deal". If I can get a comic I want at or below GPA, that's a deal to me. -bc
  15. Mastering that delay and understanding inherit packet latency of the network connection has worked well for manually sniping both eBay and CLink for over a decade. Useless for ComicConnect. Also multi-boxing (using multiple devices each honed to a different auction item on your watch list, GPA, census or other data sites) - I use 2 devices each with 3 monitors all connected via 1Gb wired Ethernet (no wireless as a sniper). Reduce your hops in your home network, disable any background apps, etc, etc. Then practice and record your results on low value items of interest. I know I can snipe a CLink auction at XXX seconds and an eBay auction at YYY seconds (not giving that away and it would be specific to my location & setup anyway). You've now graduated from Sniper School 101. It's still about how much you're willing to spend on any given item (hence the multiple monitors of data). Let's say the 90-day GPA of an item is $700, if someone puts in a max bid of $1,000 but the current high is $400 and I place a snipe bid for double that ($800), I still lose in the end. I just lose really fast. -bc
  16. If they have it say "From the collection of __________" or "______ Pedigree" it may be more acceptable. It would be one step away from : -bc
  17. Also bought 50+ copies of the much-hyped Alpha Flight 1 off the newsstand. Sold most of them at Mid-Ohio Con for $3-$5 each (out of the back of my car in the parking lot). Probably made $50 after factoring in my time & gas money (to drive around and buy them all from local stores)...made me realize speculating wasn't for me. -bc
