  1. Is the DCMU sinking fast? http://movieweb.com/aquaman-movie-director-james-wan-exit-rumor/
  2. With the Flash news, I become more and more convinced there is more happening behind the scenes at WB then they want us to know.
  3. NYX 3 just wow. I purchased a 9.4 for $200 about 5 months ago, now it is going for about $350. This book should keep going up with the movie rumors. Yes, the print run was about 40k, but that is a small run compared to a few other modern keys (NM 98), that seem to have no ceiling. It is also a smallish run considering number of issue for other books of that time period where most top selling books were around 75k to 100k per issue. Its got room, but if the appearance does not happen, watch it crash also.
  4. OMG, that author is spot on, esp. re. the need for a dark horror version of Swamp Thing & a light-hearted Aquaman. And he does not mince words. Witness the 2nd & third sentence: "They pulled (the Nolan) trilogy out of their and then had the unmitigated gall to release Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice afterward. That would be like Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel one week and then painting a giant on the side of a bus the next week. Sure, you think the is amusing, but it's not of the same caliber." Would WB hire a no name guy to run its DC movie universe? This guy seems to get it.
  5. Agreed. And I would be shocked -- shocked -- if WB leaves Zack Snyder in the director's chair for JLA or any other DC film. There has to be a reckoning. I believe Snyder has already started shooting JLA 1 about 2 weeks ago. So him leaving in the immediate future seems unlikely.
  6. Is NYX #3 about to take another big bump? Rumored X-23 may be coming to Wolverine 3 movie. http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/rumor-x-23-to-make-her-live-action-debut-in-wolverine-3
  7. Who's expectations? Warner Bros made it clear upfront they were looking at $800 million world wide. And it looks like they hit that number. Do people here really thing Warner Bros didn't know there movie was dark and aimed at a different demography than Marvel's movies? They are coming off a very successful series with Batman which was dark. It only makes sense they would try what worked for them in the recent past. And, whatever mistakes they feel they made, it is pretty clear they are adjusting and going forward. B vs S didn't sink the DCU. It is more akin to Marvel's early movies in their cinematic universe in box office take (more actually) than Marvel's later movies. That is what WB is saying now, but many many people have been saying they thought they really had the goods here. WB is trying to save face. It has nothing to do with what you personally think of the movie. We can also go back through this thread and see many of you now defending the 800 mil. number that were crowing how this film was EASILY a 1 bil movie and would give Avengers a run for its money. These people were making fun of us here that pegged this as a 800 to 900 mil movie, and were calling us stupid. Now they are defending our numbers.
  8. I heard about the four hour original cut. Wow, think of how much cheaper a Zack Snyder movie budget would be if he was actually capable of shooting to a reasonable length. No wonder budgets explode when he does not use 30% of what he shoots.
  9. BvS won't cross $1 billion. So the question now is, will BvS cross the $900 million mark? Don't be so sure. And yes... Where is this magic $200 mil. going to come from at this point? The longer R release? I doubt a critically panned move is going to see $150 mil more profit from that. Plus you now will get true summer movie competition. Not only will that cater to a limited audience, but the number of screens will be a fraction of what the original release was, and you will not get the IMAX or as many 3D screens. Regardless of what WB does 1 bil is basically a pipe dream at this point.
  10. Just a simple question. In your opinion did BvS at the box office... 1. under-perform 2. did as expected 3. did better than expected
  11. Looking like the final number will be about $850 mil at this point. Even an R re-release would be very unlikely to hit $1 bil if it settles in there.
  12. I am guessing the title is indicating he is coming home to the MCU? Hopefully it implies it is an establish character and they will not be doing another origin film.
  13. I really want SS to be good. What worries me right now is the marketing. Is WB sending the wrong message about this movie? We get the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer that gave a little bit more light view of the movie. Then there is a leak that says all the jokes were in that one trailer. Then they start massive extensive re-shoots. Some report it is because of BvS others say because it was positive response to the trailer, then Ayer says otherwise all together. I like this latest trailer, but I liked the previous one better. Again it seems to put some lighter elements mixed in more actions, and BATMAN. Again WB seems to be pandering or adjusting to BvS. Ben got a generally good reaction, so lets make sure people know Batman is in this movie also!!! Despite the fact that it has been confirmed to be little more than a cameo. On the plus side it does not look like the entire plot has been revealed this time around. I guess, I just feel like the marketing is feeling very jumbled and reactionary. I hope they are not damaging SS chances.
  14. I can not really think of any benchmark for this. I have seen re-releases in the past, like Star Wars, and I have also seen it when a movie gets an Oscar nod and they want to put the film back out there. My gut tell me that you would see between $25 to $50 mil. additional world wide, but I really have nothing to base that on.
  15. I posted an article a few days ago which went through all the accounting. It basically sums up this way. 1. Budget 2. Marketing 3. Cast appearances and promotional expenses (these were listed as separate from marketing) 4. Theater cut which varies widely depending on region. 5. A surprising amount of other assorted stuff The long and the short of it was if BvS makes $900 BO, WB will see about a $125 mil profit.
  16. Protections keep falling on this film. I am having trouble seeing it getting past $900 mil at this point. If they re-release it as the R long cut, that will be a desperation move. Can't see a re-release clearing more than about $50 mil.
  17. I do find it a little funny that people keep saying they want a darker comic movie like it has never been done before. Yes Marvel has pushed it movie to the middle to middle/light side of things, but there have been many dark comic movies. The Nolan Batman's, Burton Batman's, Blade, Sin City, Watchman, MoS, etc. They are not in short supply. It just so happens Marvel style has dominated the last 5 years.
  18. I do also hear the argument that WB should have just gone for the longer R rated version. The reason the did not is as simple as money. R rated movies do not perform well at the box office. Deadpool is the exception not the rule. If you look at the top 10 box offices of all time 9 out of 10 are PG13. Then 8 of the next 10 are also PG13. So 17 of the top 20 movies of all time worldwide are PG13. The numbers really speak for themselves. And the other 3 that buck the rating trend are PG family movies. Deadpool is the top earning R movie of all time worldwide. It ranks 66 all time box office. WB made the only decision that made financial sense by editing the movie to get that PG13 rating, the R rating would likely have reduced the total.
  19. I also keep people saying the fan ratings are proof that the general public is less harsh on this movie, and for the most part likes it despite the critics. They point to the fact that it has a 70% fan rating on RT. I hate to remind people that AoU has a 84%, Thor Dark World is at 78%, Iron Man 2 is 72%, and Hulk (2008) is 71%. Those Marvel movies listed are the ones most people on these forums complain about, and I would agree with those complaints (except Dark World, but I know I am odd on that one). I think this illustrates that any movie that gets into the 70's on RT fan rating is on shaky ground. People who make the decision to go pay for a movie, and spend the time are already inclined to like a movie. Otherwise, they would not see it in the first place. General movie goers usually have different expectations than critics, and tend to be kinder when rating a film.
  20. Yeah, the dog hair the stuck to the case really adds to it. The cover as a whole I think is a really nice 5.0. The spine does appear brittle with many color breaks however when you look close. I am sure that is what is keeping the grade down. I am wondering why so many Batman covers used so much solid yellow.
  21. Not really this week, because I got it about 2 months ago, but 1st appearance of one of my favorite characters, as well as the kickoff to one of the best stories of all comic history.
  22. Decided to set a reasonable target for starting a small GA collection, and started grabbing GA Catwoman cover appearances. The first just got here, and the second (and maybe third) is on the way.
  23. I have seen director's cuts that make a movie better, but I have never seen a director's cut that redeems a film in the eyes of the general public. Only the hardcore fans are going to buy and watch the R version. That Rotten Tomatoes 29% will never go away. Financially, the new cut will be a minuscule fraction of the revenue for BvS.
  24. It`s not just the billion, but it was also critically savaged to go along with it that could be a concern. That`s the point. One or the other it`s just fine, but to have missed both targets of 1 billion and less than 30 percent on Rotten Tomatoes is a red light. Does anybody really think a second BVS would be greenlighted now? This is the disappointment. Warner/DC shot their full wad,and it didn`t live up to expectations both critically and box office wise. This viewpoint is coming from somebody who defended the movie. What do you think the non-kool-aid drinkers are thinking about BVS? Damage has been done. I am now thinking a Man of Steel 2 movie might have been a better option than going right for the big splash with BVS. this movie should have been man of steel 2, with LEX LUTHOR doing everything Batman did, with his buildings crashing at the beginning in metropolis, getting angrier and more fearful of superman, and him testing superman and eventually framing superman, but Lex building a kryptonite powersuit, and only releasing doomsday as a last resort after being unable to defeat supes. LEX could be the one having crazy dreams, and possibly being influenced by darkseid, who wants superman out of the way before coming to earth. You could still use wonder woman the same way, still have superman question his faith, use lois more effectively as she investigates all the tests and framing of superman, still blow up the senate, etc. But then you get an understanding of Lex, and don't have to force feed us Batman and extra plot to attempt to make everything tie. That sounds like a good movie.
