  1. I believe that CGC does not downgrade a comic missing the digital code sticker unless it is a 9.9 or 10.0 so you should still be able to attain 9.8 w/o the digital code sticker. Voldy will cap the grade at 9.6 w/o a digital sticker. PGX won't even notice if the page with the digital code is missing. The only market for digital codes that I've seen is eBay (which may be against the rules) and direct seller to buyer over established relationships via social media. Personally, I prefer books in my collection to have the codes even if they are expired. If I find one that is missing the sticker, I sell it and get another copy even though they would both grade out at 9.4.
  2. I like to buy them for the Green Label discount.
  3. I want one (eventually) as well and noticed the dramatic overnight price increase. Its like 301 shot up faster than the recent 300 price increase. Not sure what is going on, hopefully this was a bidding war among just a few and correction will come.
  4. I've got a copy like this too but keep it unslabbed. In 1991, a friend offered to sell it to me with ASM 299 for $20 or $15 by itself. Two years later, I bought the pair for $20. It took a while to save up the $20 because I was "investing" in Marvel Trading Cards and needed to complete my set. Of course the first thing I did was display it in a room with lots of sunlight just like he did. I'm surprised it still looks great.
  5. I'm surprised they paid for priority. Normally guys who pack like this ship slabs via media mail.
  6. I believe International markets will heat up. Technology and more efficient supply chains will be created lowering the price of shipping which will open up new markets. Think 80s mail order => today's internet => next phase How many Canadians complain about shipping and they are right across the border? Many are buying low grade + shipping when the same money in the U.S. buys high grade. What about the rest of the world? I get a decent amount of interest in my eBay store from South Americans until I tell them how much shipping is and my best customer is in Africa.
  7. This is what I use. The drawers are lined with foam board. I found a warehouse full of used office furniture advertised on Craigslist. It was about $200 without dents or scratches.
  8. I've got some green 9.8s..."Writing on Cover" i.e. unwitnessed sig.
  9. You all can have comic-coin. I'll be putting my money in something that has been around longer, like high-risk, mortgage backed securities.
  10. I'm not familiar with this virgin cover so I didn't look it up but... I don't see any tell tale signs from your pictures. The staples appear to line up with the indentations. In any case, replaced staples are not counterfeiting, rather, restoration. Sometimes, folks have pulled the staples and added extra covers for the multiple-cover-collecting crowd. That's more of a "Frankenbook" not a counterfeit. If you have one cover, I would't worry about staple replacement. The wear/color loss along the spine is common among moderns. The only forged "comics" post 1980 that I recall being discussed and counterfeited are Gobbledygook and The Good Morty. Both are truly obscure.
  11. This is one of those things that is entirely up to the buyer to decide how much it is worth. ASM 648 sketch covers should increase in value over the long run because there are less blank covers each year also I'm pretty sure this was the first ASM blank cover.
  12. A return gets counted against your seller rating. I think it gets put into the "Transaction Defect Rate" % and affects where your listings show up on "Best Match", which is, of course, the default search. I always suggest that buyers initiate a return through eBay but some sellers like to look out for each other. Sometimes these sellers who are buying from me, offer to keep the return off eBay or just claim they "changed their mind" or "found a better price" as the reason for the return which does not hurt your rating as much. I'm going through the process of accepting a return now and sales have dropped. I'll need to run an auction or something to generate sales and get me back to the top of that "Best Match" list.
  13. I loved me some Ghost Rider 15 back then! Who needs chromium covers when you have glow in the dark covers?
  14. I've had a worse copy sell for that much two years ago.
  15. Not keeping your return address updated is like not keeping your life insurance beneficiary updated. Your ex-wife could end up with it. Lesson learned for all sellers: check your return address in eBay AND PayPal. I know my eBay return address does not default to my seller's retun address I print on the labels but rather my residence while PayPal does return to my shipping label return address.
  16. There is absolutely a premium for a Modern graded book in any condition. It seems that the premium % diminishes with the age of the book (older) and the condition (lower). In my unscientific observations, the balance of slabbed prices vs. raw is somewhere around late silver in mid grade. To answer your question, would I buy a Modern CGC 8.5 for $12 when I can buy it raw for $1.50? No, I would not. However many people do, and slabs always sell at $0.99 auctions.
  17. The Media Mail threads are the new Pressing threads.
  18. They probably would have added some Dell Westerns instead but thought twice and considered them "too valuable". After all, they wanted to make sure looters didn't break into the time capsule.
  19. That stuff is already antiquated....and they have some sort of tobacco paraphernalia every 10 items. I wouldn't be surprised if tobacco wasn't the first on the list in the seed inventory.
  20. I had to change several of my listings too. I looked it up and there are only a few categories that continue to allow a 14 day return policy, collectibles being one of them. Some of my bric a brac had to be relisted with a 30 or 60 day return policy. Had I not changed the return policy, my items would not have been automatically relisted since they were a "Good 'til cancelled" listing.
  21. We like to discuss ASM 238 in the Copper Age section. There's a whole thread to show off ASM 238s. Then there's another for Canadian price variants with lots of ASM 238s.
  22. For me, the best way to remove corner dents incurred from shipping is to send them back to the person who improperly packed the comics and make them pay for return shipping before issuing me a refund. Just open a case through eBay or PayPal.
  23. Good point. They were still the most reasonable for shipping a long box of X-People 90s drek which is uninsurable (really who is going to insure that stuff?)
