  1. I read this and thought that they are trying to phase out PayPal and Adyen will have lower fees than PayPal.
  2. Oh, OK. I used the eBay discount and shipped a long box coast to coast. In this case the seller would have had access to the same discounts when shipping via eBay.
  3. They can be very obnoxious. Sometimes I send blurry cell phone pics because they are not satisfied with high res scans of my slabs.
  4. I've encountered this on a much smaller scale (paid for Priority but got 1st class). I worked it out with the seller after I got the books and he gave me a partial refund. If this was me, I would wait until I had the books, make sure they were as described, then attack the seller (politely) stating that I was overcharged and would like the difference refunded to me. If that didn't work, then file a dispute. Additionally, he could have used FedEx ground and had it come out cheaper than $80. At least I'm pretty sure.
  5. Whenever I grant a return/refund, an eBay warning pops up saying not to issue a refund until the item is shipped and received back to me. Sounds like he got away with one.
  6. If you're buying something hot, it's already too late. I agree that AF 15 and IH 181 are blue chips, but the rate of return may no longer be there. Gotta find the next blue chip to get the return we've seen with AF 15 and IH 181. Of course just a 10% increase in either of those two will be just fine with many collectors.
  7. Let's see if I can pi$$ off NY and Miami at the same time...
  8. I hear a lot about Facebook but I decided that I will not participate a long time ago. I like Instagram for showing off run filler, drek, or something fun like #multiplecomicmonday. I think YouTube is invaluable for anything DIY and that includes comics. I learned a lot from grading tutorials.
  9. This isn't good. It looks like he replaced the word "Mint" with "Nice" in the listing titles. As we have recently discussed, the grade of "Nice" can lead to multiple threads on the CGC forum.
  10. Off the top of my head, using MS Excel or a cloud-based cataloging system is sure better than notebook paper I used to use as a kid. Now I put grades in my color-coded Excel spreadsheet instead of using check marks or scratching out numbers on a list! Social media is also connecting us to other collectors. Now I make comments on cool books and NFL playoffs to the same people. It is also interesting to see what type of people share the same interests as me. Looking forward to the next 20 years.
  11. If that list is your collecting goal: 1. Take the list and look up auctions for each book. 2. Bid on the ones starting dirt cheap. 3. Win a book at less than BIN prices. It doesn't matter which book because you wanted it and you got the deal. Go for books at an auction if you can.
  12. If you put it up on eBay make sure to put "Never Read" in the title to attract extra bidders.
  13. The rest of us are just bottom feeders but watch out, I'm close behind you. Just flip the numbers, I'm more like 12k sales for a profit of $111.
  14. With moderns, I think the question to ask is, "What is the minimum grade to consider sending to CGC?" There is a short list of copper and modern books worth grading less than 9.8 in my opinion and I like copper and modern books. If preservation is your concern, almost all of us would all suggest putting your books in Mylites2s with fullbacks. For the ones you really want to protect, put those in toploaders. All my "hot" 9.4 variants that many people slab are being stored comfortably in mylar with a fullback. I would only grade 9.8s, books you are selling, or keeping your choice keys slabbed to show off on social media.
  15. Have them as a favorite seller. No problems and have had a few transactions.
  16. That's correct. Your seller rating goes down when cancelling transactions. Buyers don't really see the specific rating but it impacts how high your products are listed in search results. I've actually offered to do things the right way and some great customers of mine said they wanted to take care of minor problems on the down low so they wouldn't impact my seller rating for ticky-tack problem like USPS damaging a Marvel Tales from VF- to FN (it happens).
  17. Worked for me. I don't like the app though. Too much content bogs my phone down. I just use it for notifications.
  18. The anti-trust issues will deal with ESPN absorbing Fox Sports regional affiliates. ESPN is national and Fox Sports built the largest regional network. Now ESPN could be the largest national and regional sports distributor. Also, if the numbers come back as projected by Forbes, Disney/Marvel Studios and Fox will account for approximately 40% of this year's $$$ at the box office. What pressure will this put on movie theaters if Disney decides to squeeze them for reserving screens (obligated for other studios) or concession profits? If this goes through as planned, cable TV networks are scared of what Fox News will become once they get an infusion of billion$.
  19. Buying a slabbed book off eBay is as safe as it gets for eBay as far as authentic comics and grading. Whether the seller ships it safely is another story. If you are not satisfied with what you receive from eBay, request a return and eBay will grant it.
  20. It seems like I open a non-payment case every time I do a mass auction. They either pay or they don't. I haven't gotten any retaliation. If anything, they come back for more because other sellers are tired of their B.S.
  21. This discussion topic linked below has a lot of information and several links. It should address many of your questions. The shop location is New York City. The forum member was asking for advice after years of selling comics part time, read several books relating to the business, and personally interviewed other shop owners in the general area he was targeting.
  22. Yikes. This sounds like an Instagram deal for five $1 books. Some people just don't get it.
  23. According to the Key Collector App: X-Men 4 - 1st app X-Men 5 - 2nd app Avengers 16 - Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye join Avengers Fantastic Four 150 - Marriage of Quicksilver and Crystal
  24. Looks like he is lurking. He reacted to the post above yours. CAL, who lurks in the shadows these days.
