  1. You should read that book while enjoying a refreshing Kooba cola!
  2. Holy Yarko, Straw-Man! A true Wonder of a book! And nice spine...
  3. Hi Gang: here is what CGC Grader Notes has to say about it -- Certification Information Certification #: 1418662001 Title: Wonder Comics Issue: 2 Issue Date: 6/39 Issue Year: 1939 Publisher: Fox Features Synd. Grade: 2.0 Page Quality: LIGHT TAN TO OFF-WHITE Grade Date: 08/18/2016 Category: Universal Art Comments: Lou Fine cover Bob Kane, Will Eisner, Bob Powell, Munson Paddock and Adolphe Barreaux art Key Comments: Yarko the Great begins. Last issue. Title becomes Wonderworld Comics. Grader Notes: large split bottom of spine large split top of spine light stain front cover medium split center of spine only 1"" spine NOT split staple detached bottom of So the main issue is the spine split, all but 1 inch of the spine. You can pretty much see this from looking at the book. Whether this is an automatic downgrade to a 2.0, I dunno... But the rest of the book shimmers!! And gives me the shivers!!
  4. Lou Fine's first cover. And first Yarko. And a hypnotized gorilla. How could I not? Needless to say, I'm VERY PLEASED with the book. It shows well for a 2.0 (imho). And who am I kidding, I'd never have been a contender for the Berk copy, appearing at your local neighborhood auction site soon...
  5. Thanks Gino!! You've perfected the art of flattery! And I love your ALL CAPS style. So here goes: I'M TOTALLY THRILLED WITH THIS AWESOME BOOK!!! THIS ONE'S A KEEPER! I really owe this book to you, Straw-Man, telerites, and Johnny545 for bringing it to my attention on this thread. I would never have known about it otherwise, would have been none the wiser. Of course, at the same time, I'm now cash-poor and wife-irate, but that's only me to blame. The seller did make a very nice compromise on the final price, which softened the pain (a little).
  6. Thanks guys!! I've basically cashed out early; I'd be kidding myself to think I might have been a contender for the Berk books. Will post the book in Cigar, or Fox, or both, later today or tomorrow.
  7. Let's just say, I'll need to ask the tax man to come back later...
  8. I like how the blond-hair guy at the bottom right corner is like, "Yeah, he's on it; I'll just chill out for a while."
  9. Spectacular, RM!! Never seen that one. That's a great cover by Zolnerowich, almost emulating Lou Fine with that superb line work and shading detail.
  10. It's a fab copy no doubt about it! Still trying to figure out why the baddie is so insistent about forcing the General to put on a gas mask. Act of altruism?
  11. Maybe we can make lemonade from this lemon -- for the novice eye, could you experts point out exactly where the resto is? (and any other pointers on identifying resto...) Thanks!
  12. Wow, how very cool!! My guess is that's ol' Nick Cage, in character of course, holding the battle ax.
  13. Thanks Steve and Cat-Man! I love those colors against the black background. (Need to update my signature line...)
  14. Yes, they are 2 different markets, but as noted, there will be some overlap in the mid-grades. And as the hammer begins to drop, some of us might need to decide whether to go for 1+ books in the upcoming CC auction vs. ≤ 1 book in the Berk auction.
  15. Wow. There's just about something for everyone. The well might run dry before JB's stuff even gets listed. (Well, my well may well be dry, anyhow.)
  16. Just amazing books! That poor girl tied to the gas tank; though she really doesn't look all that worried. I guess she's already read this story.
  17. Thanks RM! I agree, one of Quality's exceptional offerings back in 1940.
  18. Adding to the Quality of this thread, with a red bee, a green fish, yellow arm floaties, and pink bubbles. Lots of pink bubbles. Not exactly the Mile High. Maybe more like Fifty-Feet High? Happy that I fine-ly had time to post this.
  19. And, one of the other players (bottom left) is actor Jeff Goldblum...
  20. Try money orders instead!! She never need know.
