  1. OK, I have a confession to make. I don't like 9.0s either. I lied in the opening post because I didn't want to seem certified batpoop crazy, but I'd rather have an 8.5 than a 9.2.
  2. For some reason, I have a thing against 9.2s. I don't mind 9.0s or 9.4s or any other grade for that matter. Even on Copper / Modern books. It's not a thing against the physical condition of NM- either, it's just about the number 9.2. I know that it's stupid, and I don't typically buy books for what's on the label, in fact I love 9.4-9.6 for their lack of premium pricing, but 9 times out of 10 I'll pass on a 9.2. Anyone else have similar feelings about certain grades or am I just crazy?
  3. Best wishes to Paul for a successful transplant and a smooth recovery
  4. No one needs even a single copy of a comic. We could admire their art and read them online or in reprints. We choose to own them because doing so brings us satisfaction. Hunting them down thrills us, holding them brings us joy etc. If finding, owning, holding, reading one copy makes us happy, it's not a stretch to understand why the process is often repeated IMO. Sure, you can repeat the process on a different book, but if a specific issue holds a special place with you personally due to the art, the story, sentimentality etc, why not do it again?
  5. My all time favorite performance by an actor. I think it was recently voted best film so far this century (very subjective, I know, but I tend to agree). Bastard from a basket!
  6. Of the “Stinking Bishop” variety? Also, who thought that would be a good name for a cheese?
  7. Steve, this is brilliant! Not sure how I missed this at the time, but well done on all the time and effort you put into your research I'm really glad that it's now acknowledged in Overstreet Any update since from CGC?
  8. in Connecticut we called them Grinders. No idea why. Hero, hoagie, sub, grinder, po’boy... It’s funny how there can be so many names for essentially the same thing.
  9. Sorry I had a cat 5 hurricane coming towards my home state and my family and home were a tad more important then the actual release date of the book..... but I see your post really livened up this thread. nuts. 🙄 Here's my comment that has zero relevance to the thread: It's called Coppa. Or Capocollo. Even Capicola gets a pass if you're from North America. It's never Gabagool. Gabagool is wrong
  10. not a fan of the power reserve on the dial, however, always nice when someone doesn't dismiss a Seiko cause "it's a Seiko." People that dismiss Seikos don't know anything about horology IMO. They're the same type of people that wouldn't know the difference between a Patek Calatrava and a Daniel Wellington quartz. Do you ever read The Watch Snob over at askmen.com? His stuff is as much satire as it is serious, but he knows his watches, and speaks very highly of Grand Seiko.
  11. If you scroll down, you'll see the movement visible through the case back.
  12. Was anyone bidding last night wearing one of these?
  13. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can someone help me out with what the "386-71" run means please? I know you have the 3 issues of Four Color, then #s 4-39 from the Dell 1953 series, but then the numbering continues with the Western 1963 series, correct? I guess my confusion arises because the Western series goes up well past #71, so I'm unsure where the 71 in 386-71 comes from. Sorry, there was probably a less confusing way to ask this.
  14. It seems to me that even if one of us did this, they would decline to provide the documentation on the basis that they are being victimised by a smear campaign
