  1. This is a business gone broke. I expect people will get their books back, but the money is gone when the business burst. Sorry - but part of life
  2. We don't live in a perfect world. Some times, businesses goes under impacting its customers. Some times customers fail businesses by not paying their dues. While people can be upset - it can go both ways. It is all about trust and reputation. There is risk with every transaction..
  3. Don’t think it it physical work - think more to do with having to work long hours after most employees left/let go in order to keep up combined with the emotional stress when one sees which way the business is going, not able to pay bills, see one’s operation just crumble to pieces after spent so much time and effort to built it. That would be my guess
  4. If you read the initial posts it would seem that the money went for an expansion of the business with second location set up and custom made equipment - which all had to be sold at fire sale prices. But noone knows for sure where the money went until such time where he just gives up, returns all books, declare himself bankrupt, gets his surgery (if possible) and moves on - if that is what his customers want
  5. From what I understand from reading this thread is that a lot of money went into setting up the 2nd facility and it all had to be sold at fire sale prices. Assuming that it true - there is really not much left than for Hero Resto to declare personally bankrupt. There is a difference between business failure and stealing - but until he goes through the bankruptcy proceeding - no one really can tell what happend with the money
  6. 5/15/23 25 10,000 ECONOMY Shipped 6/19/23 5/2/23 25 10,000 ECONOMY Shipped 6/19/23
  7. I believe the terms would be rendered invalid if the actual period is significantly different from the original estimate, especially if work has not commenced. Not that it would help a lot. If there is no money left then there is no money to refund. seems like ppl have 2 choices, 1) asking for books to returned and hope to get whatever money left back (although sounds unlikely, or 2) wait until Mike is done with there books which sounds like can take a long time. Think in this scenario ppl may need to treat the situation as if Heroes Resto is bankrupt, ie has no money to return
  8. you forget that manpower is also a cost to a business owner. However, I also considered using Hero Restoration but decided against it when receiving the quote, the estimated time and payment terms. I think more fairer would be an initial pay-up, at half-point and when finished. However, from the business owner I understand that one would not wish to do any work, unsure if client able to pay once started. But will see where this all end up once all settled
  9. guess the last line (exclusive offers and benefits) is no longer included: What is included with a CGC Elite Membership for $299? Full access to online resources Full submission privileges Free grader notes where available for comic book submissions Free $20 Shipping Kit Voucher for New Members 10% off at CCG Store $150 credit with CGC 10% off CGC grading tiers Exclusive offers and benefits
  10. @MattM CS Any chance of a reply? thanks
  11. As part of the elite membership - one of the listed benefit is “Exclusive offers and benefits”. I am having a hard time remembering when I was last offered exclusive offers and benefits”. Would it be possible for you to provide some specific examples (I have missed)?
  12. Lots can be said about MHC. However to be fair - they disclose all info on their web-site - you just need to be familiar with website layouts from the 1990s to find the info. As an example, lots of comment about grading - I bet few ppl knows that Chuck gives a grading guarantee for VF and NM books (from the website under NM graded books): "Please note: for those of you who send older books in to CGC for professional grading, we only guarantee that our NM graded books will come back with CGC grades ranging anywhere from 8.5 (VF+) to 10.0 (Gem Mint). We actually believe that all our books in our NM category are at least 9.0 (Very Fine/Near Mint) by anyone's standards, but our experience has been that CGC grading can vary dramatically from day to day. If you were to receive a grade on a book you purchased from us, after January 1, 2003, that was graded as NM that came in below 8.5, return the book to us and we will refund you your cost, plus your cost of CGC grading." For VF it is 6.5 to 9.4 His grading goes both ways - I have bought many books from MHC at VF which came back as 9.8 (in particular a lot of BP2 - shuri) He has an X-Men #1 at $200k. If that came back as 9.0 or higher it would be a score at the usual discount he gives. If I lived in the US i would probably go there in person and check out that book (and if someone here on this site decides to go for it - happy to take a finder's fee )
  13. 7/24/22 Shipped 2/26/23 On the other hand - guess this one must have a comic really hard to grade as it has been in GEI like forever: 6/28/22 Grading/Encapsulation/Imaging
  14. Received: 6/14/22 shipped: 2/9/23
  15. @Grendel72which country is your collection located?
  16. i only used it because i wanted to see if MCS grading had changed since Borock joined. result was inconclusive
  17. Don’t see cgc and c… much different. Both occasional lose books, both get books through “quality control” which are upside down, both occasional fail to spot resto and both are owned by capital funds who are looking for returns on their investment. Competition is good main diff is that CGC’s customer service is so much better.
  18. Quite funny to read given mod’s frequent actions in this thread
  19. Problem is that the modern grading for each shipment is quite inconsistent. I have shipments where majority gets 9.8 and shipments where just a few gets 9.8. Books are similar
