Best place to buy pieces of cardboard for mailing raw comics
grebal replied to Gruson's topic in Comics General
You might have been the one who wised me up to buying the pads pre-cut. It happened here at CGC boards, just a few years ago soon after I'd joined this board. -

Amazon has some. Lot of online sources. I probably bought the bigger ones because easier/cheaper. E.g. https://www.packagingsupplies.com/products/18-x-12-corrugated-pads But if you search around online you should be able to find a size that doesn't require cutting. ! -

For years I was very cost-conscious - so I'd hoard boxes and then use box cutter to cut my own boards. That became a monthly event (cutting boxes up) that was a pain - so when it affected my mood about selling (geez, can't list new items until I've cut up a batch of boxes) I smartened up. Someone on here suggested buying them. You are already there - good call - just buy them ! Much easier even if it just costs you a few bucks. I bought some larger boards- still must cut once down middle to make a nice cardboard sandwich. These are 12x18s (cut in half to 12x9 inch). -

7th Annual Green Eggs Grading Contest - Round 9
grebal replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I went 6.0 and 8.0. We are obviously better graders than CGC. Me three. Bad corners, crunch at bottom edge of the lower grade one (Iron Fist), surface wear bottom rt of the Cap Nomad (all those spots at bottom right along the guy's sleeve may be "manufactured" but there are plenty of CA 180s with nice clean covers and no spots). -

Apparently I bombed. OTOH: Grades in !! -
YMMV - ending auctions on weekends tend to be better, I've found Sat night to be best (maybe 8 pm pacific?). Though many of the best sellers have plenty of success at other times (e.g. comics4something has very successful auctions ending Sun morning into noon). Include good pictures or scans, preferably both if big $ book - and include backs. Offer to combine shipping. If new don't start out saying "NO RETURNS" in big print, especially since with Paypal payments most buyers can return regardless of your policy if they can prove "item not as described." I forget what seasons are best - summers are pretty good. Though I'd stop auctions for the six weeks from around Dec 15 to end of Jan. (Christmas selling might be ok at Thanksgiving to mid-Dec. but after that feebay can be a bit of ghost town based on past years imo). Currently Playing Movie drives activity a fair bit for relevant keys (in your case ASMs will sell a little better when a Spiderman movie is in theatres).

Official 2019 Green Eggs Grading Contest Prize Thread
grebal replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Comics General
The minor obstacles to me doing Andy's part - too marvel centric, too few golden age books. Plus my opening three to five prizes (often Andy contributes even more!) wouldn't be as hefty as the very generous prizes donated by Andy. His great prizes are generally among the top few choices on most lists, although sometimes he gets some competition - My Comics Shop once donated a great Bat Adventures 12, and Shin's or Azkaban's box (or is that his x-mas box?) are pretty sweet too. Pardon me if I forgot someone. The major obstacles: can't scan slabs. Couldn't do Shin's job unless he did all the work (i.e. I got his spreadsheets/workbook, and I have the right software to work on them). Other: My name has no green or ham in it, let alone both. And I think I'm busy that week.- 1,092 replies

7th Annual Green Eggs Grading Contest - Round 8
grebal replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
RMA, I thought as you did until I saw consistent winners of this contest consistently continue to get them right. Year after year. But I do agree with you that I think I would be a better guesser if I had each book in hand. -

If you asked astronomers? Anyway, if you feel participating here on this board isn't expertise enough, you could disregard grades of anyone with too large a std deviation (i.e. too far off the mark too often). Although then the plurality grade would change from round to round (as some people's WAGs suddenly got counted and others' WAGs became disregarded for the count of "most" common grade). -
7th Annual Green Eggs Grading Contest - Round 8

IT would be a different contest if instead of CGC grade, the "bullseye" grade is the one that most (i.e. a plurality) collectors here assign - since in theory CGC is representative of the opinion of 'collectors'. So far this contest the books that would have ended with a 'bull' different than the grade CGC assigned - book 4 (Cap 117), 6 (BA 12), 8 (ASM 300), 11 (AA 89), and then both books this round. Might make for a very different contest, imo, though it would probably affect several members' WAGs. -

Az will be up there, but I also expect toro and TheGeneral to end among the top few, based on consistently placing there in past. -

You should be ecstatic - some rounds that means double-bulls. Of course, other rounds the same emoji might mean tomato in the face, so don't actually get excited because that could be wrong. -
Please grade this Spellbound #20!

They bump these older books, if it was part of CGC contest to predict grade - I'd guess easy 6.0, shot at 6.5. -

Maybe @sckao was saying 2 tied for 1st place. Not 2 people got double bullseyes. But I might have read it wrong when Shin first said "one stands alone." [he could've been talking about dbl bulls like you guessed.] -

– Green Eggs And Ham - by Dr. Seuss … Sam! If you will let me be, I will try them. You will see. Say! I like green eggs and ham! I do! I like them, Sam-I-am! And I would eat them in a boat! And I would eat them with a goat... And I will eat them in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train. And in a car. And in a tree. They are so goodm so goodm you see! So I will eat them in a box. And I will eat them with a fox. And I will eat them in a house. And I will eat them with a mouse. And I will eat them here and there. Say! I will eat them anywhere! I do so like Green eggs and ham! Thank you! Thank you, Sam-I-am- 1,092 replies

7th Annual Green Eggs Grading Contest - Round 7
grebal replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
We're kindred. Until this last round I'd never had a double. Even in 2016 when I tied Tsp99 for second place with Andy's Hulks 2-6 on the line I never scored double-bulls. Tiebreaker is # of bulls, so obviously I'll never win the tiebreakers. Fingers crossed for you this contest - still three more rounds, and if I can break the streak you can too amigo. -
