  1. Yeah but it was an annual when the android version showed up. Probably still not what you mean, but Hulk fighting Thor (JIM 112) and Thing (112).
  2. Guess I'm a philistine, made me think of Mona Lisa if she were a dude.
  3. Agreed. I was mocking it. I'm against defacement too.
  4. Crossed over to the dark side and knowingly bought a "restored" comic (though I did buy a trimmed Startling a little while ago). Was impatient for a relatively inexpensive copy, and from what I could tell this copy had binder holes that someone filled in and painted in slightly off-color (you should see the back, they used a ballpoint pen to poorly color in a blue piece). pgx gave it a 7.5, heh. Plan to crack it out, probably pop out the holes, and have myself a 4.0 copy if that's the only restoration. I know, it's a total krapshoot, really, but it's all mine (at least, once they mail it, and assuming it gets here). NOTE: does anyone know if 3/15 was that month they were doing honest work over at pgx? Already got this one 10 years ago, so I've completed the pair of ant mans, yay.
  5. Oh sounds like "o" and is more of a letter than a word. Youz English. In 'merica that's just two words. Just saying. ; )
  6. Great. Ryan sent me just what he promised, securely packaged, and sent super fast. Thank you.
  7. No back scans/pics is becoming much more commonplace, even with big books, and very big books. I'm kind of bummed because some of the slabs were interesting and maybe worth a buy. Finally broke down and asked a seller for view of a few backs that he sent pretty quickly, and I bought a few slabs here (first time in over a year). But OTOH, a Lieutenant Pink had a very interesting raw copy of Rangers 26 and it was such a small dollar book I didn't have the heart to bother the guy for a pic of the back. I'll wait for another copy to come along, although I'll admit, when he reduced to 750 I had to resist the urge to just type 'take.'
  8. He really should only post this scary stuff when the sun's out, keeps the monsters away. (solar boy after all)
  9. That's real good. Funny dude (seriously). I was focusing on the tangible book itself, very rudimentary and simple, but you're right, the more thoughtful and deeper way is to change perception in the market of the value of the paper in your hands - develop and nurture a false rumor about next feature film, paper some fake transactions on ebay, shill bid to inflate perception of price in other arenas, all the many tricks I've learned about since joining the boards. Course this last paragraph of stuff is not so much funny as sad.
  10. I'm really looking forward to this, but I like saving some stuff that I really like until it's all in the can. Sometimes I'll track it down then, or other times just wait until I come across it at a good time when I need something new. Like I waited the few years to watch all 3 LOTR when the last one was out. A few years ago a dumb-humor show I enjoyed called Psych had an episode that after five minutes I realized had to be an homage to TP (girl dies that looked a bit like Laura and her name was Paula Merral (anagram of Laura Palmer) and then the theme song clinched it. And the guest stars . . . Prompted me to go back and watch the series and FWWM again, first time in decades. Real glad to hear you guys enjoyed it, even Janet. Really looking forward to it.
  11. Put aside rationality a moment. You have a comic in your hands and you want to make it into something "worth more." What to do? You could maybe try a press. Maybe get it put into a slab. Or what about adding a sig, that could do it!
  12. Good first post; yes, the famous tulip bulb crash was raised in at least half the many conversations invariably including predictions of an impending 'baby boom crash' that I've read in the 20 months I've been reading the CGC boards. You probably ought to avoid the Silver forum, particularly the "club" threads, that epitomize your main peeve - some (like myself) will contribute their meagre (lower grade) entry into the 'club', but the vast majority of replies either serve as a support group for owners of high grade copies that use the thread as a kind of check-ticker-symbol substitute, or proud owners of higher grade copies rightly sharing their admirable books with like-minded fans.
  13. I knew there was a reason I liked your sometime-surly manner. ; ) I grew up on LI and went to Hofstra Law, my brother got his undergrad degree from Hofstra, and neither of us wrestled in college (each of us did just a couple of years of college football), though we wrestled from 10 yr-olds through HS. Of course I didn't own any guns until I moved to Texas. ; ) And I prefer Pink Floyd to Black Sabbath/Judas Priest though of course I love the harder stuff too.
  14. Sounds worthwhile to a possible buyer only if the stuff he is selling is very desirable and extra-ordinary. Based on the description of the comics, agree with the thread consensus that it would be a waste of your time unless he comes at you with extra-ordinarily lower expectations than most other new sellers.
  15. Oh, you mean a seller with the kind of sensibilities that prompt him to claim "CGC/PGX" when selling a PGX book, but leave out any reference to PGX on those few he's selling that are actually CGC?
  16. One of the few boardies I've met, a really nice guy & very trustworthy. Nice batch of books Rob, good luck amigo.
  17. Very pretty 'upgrade' to the signed copy you sold me a few months ago, congrats !!
  18. A year ago on ebay I bought basically same book/same price [Aveng. #1 CGC 3.5]. :- )
