  1. I thought they were both interesting write-ups as well, but try not to post too often when I really don't have much to contribute. Great insights, Andy. Junkdrawer too. A lot of good advice here. And a lot worse ways to 'buy a job.' E.g. when I was shopping for businesses in 2011 there were a lot of opportunities like Subway shop available which maybe generated $80,000 a year to owner/operator.
  2. What's amazing is that I could make around 110 purchases and it would still only take up a single short box. But as mentioned and like most here, I must sell from time to time.
  3. Thanks for the comment about it being art, not crease. Tiny fleck at bottom edge looked like it might be crease. Can't estimate grades above 9.4 with much confidence not having book in hand. Can guess 9.4 to 9.6 with weak confidence.
  4. Tiny dog ear bottom right doesn't prevent from getting 9.4, imo. But as mentioned in last reply, if that's a 1 inch faint crease bottom right, probably then just 9.0. Cross your fingers for 9.2?
  5. What would you pay for a del otto whatchamacallit ? ; )
  6. ^ looks like the same size & shape as the bazooka Joe gum, which IIRC seemed like it might have a pretty good shelf life. But I've never even seen the Marvel bubble gum before.
  7. I came back to collecting last May 2016, and found this board. From my last active ebay days, during 2007-2008, there were two personalities that stood out, one guy bought nearly every copy of IMSM1 (C.C.), and the other had the angry man listings that lasted two pages (silver age marvel comics only 1). So of course, now I know more about who was behind the calamerica collectibles purchase of every available IMSM1. What a character, but then, that could be said about half of us in some context. And last year I took a small gamble on a minor book from samco1, whom I already figured out for myself grossly overgraded. Turns out I was still blocked from nearly 10 years ago. Talk about lucky ! Can't recall what kind of note I sent to him back in 2008 that led to my being blocked. [Actually, I also remember Showcase NE for those broken-out run listings (1, 2, 3-5, 6- 10, etc.), overgraded only one or two grades mainly in terms of abuse of the meaning of "average" grades. But mostly it's the negatives I remember, and SNE was among the better ones in those days.]
  8. Yeah, FineCollector, that's where I read it, it was friggin Overstreet. For a period of time they reported prices as 'no different with or w/o tatooz'. Overstreet was my bible for three decades and now I've apparently blocked it out from my memory. Thank you!!
  9. I like several Adventure comics, but also have seen some classics like Spirit that I like a lot too. Maybe I'll rent them.
  10. I now could probably identify Feldstein drawn tatas in a police line up. Thank you, Rick.
  11. I'm run, you're probably key, that's a big difference. And like you I erred the first time- I've actually got 14 short boxes as my collection, and five long/2 shorts to sell. D'oh! On the bright side, look at all the titles I divested myself of 10 years ago and haven't repurchased (except I have many keys) TOS, TTA, ST136 & up, Iron Man, Cap, DD, And my bronze is now down to "just" three short boxes of horror and three short heroes.
  12. Give in to the dark side. But just a little bit. I've the same problem. Some books I just like, and find myself buying when it wasn't part of a pre-set plan. And lot of people here have a lot more than I do, and it's not a space issue ...; the rationalizations/reasons can run on to justify if I decide to start a new run (bought about 6 Planet Comics as my intro to GA good gril stuff). I've about 10 short boxes that are my core "keeps," then another 4 shorts and maybe 5 long boxes that I'll probably sell over the next five years. And at that point I'll have picked up at least another few shorts worth of books. I've got my slabs down to a manageable box and a half (maybe 40).
  13. ^Just so long as you cleared *that* up. !
  14. Nice stuff Robot Man ! Oh, and no one needs pics of the 4 sleeveless GRR vinyls in my collection, or the other Avengers copy I have, since it's common and LG anyway. Though I'd happily buy any record-less sleeves anyone has for sale (Av 4, FF1, ASM1, JIM83).
  15. Cool thread, just have common stuff like the 70s calendars, treasuries and a full set of the Olshevsky marvel indexes. But I've enjoyed reading the marvel stamps thread since after all the MVS butchery it's good to see the 'yang.' And there is probably some amazing stuff from 60s MMMS.
  16. Agreed, I don't collect it and even I wanted it.
  17. ^Thanks !! for '07 thread, always appreciate the history. And didn't realize there were several others, just the Avengers but couldn't recall the #. Good stuff, thank you. I'm sure there was a little more to the specifics of CGG revising a policy or position about the tatts, but that 2007 thread certainly matches the topic and the timing, though I thought it might have been a bit sooner.
  18. ^That's it. Good auto screeners. Not too useful really (by which I mean, it doesn't screen a large enough % of the members ebay knows about that are duds), but better than nothing.
  19. I've been all over the place on the block bidder thing. If I allow myself, I can work myself up to being angry about these deadbeats, never mind crackpots like notsure recently had to deal with. Way upthread I'm certain I ranted, even since joining the board. But last round I did, in November, 100 Fixed/BIN, and over 60 NR auctions, I deleted the 1000 blocked member list I'd borrowed (cut and paste) from here [maybe darthbane's?], and didn't block anyone except what ebay auto-screen allows - I think 2 non paying bidder strikes over some month period. Mostly marvel silver and bronze, maybe 10% slabbed. My report to the board of this lack of protection: one deadbeat, two that took a week after I used 'cancel-threaten nonpayment strike' what-ever-it's-called. Oh, and the biggest book (an $880 ST110) was returned because not a VG range (although description said twice I think it is a nice high GD). I think I wanna block him now, so, so much for my experiment. It's just so much admin work (unless I just use the mass list this board has compiled). Oh, and I added a fib in my ads, and promise I'll try to block members who are non paying bidders. Maybe the thing is for me to buy a good list that is all the dregs and none of the personality-grated-on-me borderline cases ? I can spot the warning signs of the genuine flakes pretty good myself, but that's the admin burden I was thinking to avoid with the zero list approach.
  20. IIRC, for a while over a decade or so ago they briefly considered (at least) the absence of the tattooz to be treated as meaningless, I think the rationale was to deter/discourage removal of the identical tattooz from the FF 252 issue. Forget where I read it, sorry, was so long ago. I suspect someone around he remembers more than I do. But, yeah, the bottom staple would need to be removed, can't be slid in.
  21. Agreed, the poster is really nothing like a word cloud, except as you mentioned from an aspirations perspective maybe. A nice snapshot of where Marvel's head and mags ware at in 1975.
  22. Not crappy at all, just no controversy. And like most repliers in this thread, I learned I need thicker skin and patience when it comes to the community side of the board. Spiderman's one of my favorites. My run starts at 2. I was priced out of interest in AF15. And a timid collector, I've always been more worried about downside than eager for upside, so I don't shop for #1 either. Probably I'll spring for the FF1 I need/want this year. Maybe one day even go for Spidey if there's a selloff. But I've heard logic (with which I agree) that says a Spiderman collector that felt priced out of an AF15 might instead move to ASM1, or if still too pricey, then to ASM 2.
  23. Then again, the calendars are pretty common, while I haven't seen the MMMS posters or posters like yours nearly so often, so there's likely some scarcity value.
