  1. Retro (Ryan) sent me a Hulk 181 in cgc, fast and safe ! Very glad I clickied into his thread when I did. Thanks bud ! Greg
  2. Yeah, they gave us neither the montage/song a la Rocky, nor the "3 years later" in on screen text.
  3. N.C. Wyeth was wildly popular during the first half of the 20th century..... well worth a Google image search by any lover of adventure art. His work on the Scribner's Children's Classics is fantastic..... these aren't actually children's books per se, but illustrated editions of the classics. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Thanks a lot, you guys. Google search found me plenty of useless details about it (history and provenance of cover of Action 8) but off the tops of your heads you gave me more useful information than an hour of digging into it. Gratuitous pic of Action 8 I found somewhere in sales thread:
  4. Not sure I agree with this as obviously there are other copies with a different color. I'm not saying that this classifies as a "variant", probably more of a printing error but I don't recall seeing a blue Galactus? Keep in mind that I have read this issue since it was first released. Bold mine. I haven't seen a copy with a different color. Do you say it exists because CBCS are pros and shouldn't get such a thing wrong? I agree it's an error and not the intended art coloring, but I began to suspect they are all colored that way with blue G.
  5. I'm selling two copies on ebay where I speculate about why I think these are erroneously called 'blue G variants.' I think CBCS is wrong (which claims it's a variant on its labels and in the new Overstreet ed.) because the only copies I've seen have galactus colored in blue on that page. I will think all copies are blue galactus variant issues until I see a copy with a regular-colored galactus.
  6. So am I the only one who sees the major issue with this??? This book is an ALL time favorite on the boards. Holy mess I haven't laughed that hard in awhile... I know what you're getting on our Christmas Exchange this year. "Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?" Poor Chuck. Here's some unique comic related art, anyway: an early painting of my mother's I didn't recognize for what it was until I saw Hudson's sig. Guess the art she copied was a swipe of (or the inspiration for) Action 8 cover.
  7. Yeah, I used to have a good porno stash too, but I don't think that's what they're talking about. ; ) The only one I can think of as 'rare' is a unique sig placement of a Stan Lee FF66 that I came across in my boxes. (cover sig which I hate and is my only one, but against art backdrop that almost looks custom made for his sig.)
  8. Where's that Chamber of Chills ? ; )
  9. Does that mean I'm not supposed to take note about the first Dormammu appearance heating up? /end wise butt mode Noticed that ASM 122 is in resurgence for some reason, just figured I'd mention it. The next issue ASM 123 was picking up a while now because of Luke, obviously, but I've seen more interest in the 122 than the 121 which is a reversal (not necessarily higher prices, just relatively more hits and watchers and bids).
  10. I liked it. Around 7/10 (just a little bit higher than someone that said they hated it. Heh). The Groundhog Dimension sequence made me laugh. But on the whole the movie was more serious business than I'm used to from the 'house of ideas.' Interstellar Overdrive !
  11. It happened to the Simpsons (in that episode, I mean). But good stories well done will generally be appreciated.
  12. He's an ancient pair of boobs now with the Marvel suits' white-washing, so it's now a she. But on the bright side, Interstellar Overdrive made the sound track (from an old Pink Floyd album) - they go way back the Doc and Floyd.
  13. I think Junkdrawer about six week ago unloaded 20 or more Hulk 181 in slabs mostly in high grades. Don't think the "market" even burped after digesting 'em. I'm also with the skeptics about quality and depth or breadth of the MHC overhanging "inventory." OTOH, evolutionarily speaking, trepidation or risk aversion about what the future might hold has been a self-preserving instinct for the better, so imo questioning is healthy.
  14. There was a long thread about this topic within the past few months. Lots of theories were put out there, and strong views expressed on both sides and in multiple other directions too. IMO, in short, I once felt similarly about fear of a huge drop in demand (or supply glut, whichever) when the boomers all bail, but I've seen a pretty strong replacement of the collectors of my generation (I'm at the end of it, born in 63) - at least 1 for 1. Smaller % of US pop. are comic collectors almost certainly, but we have a much larger pop., and there's lots more women collectors (did some selling on ebay so it's only anecdotal), Canadians and Brits buy US editions, and plenty of other countries do too, so I did a 180 since May when I came back to collecting after 8-year hiatus. I've only been to a few cons since May but noticed some kids here and there with some comics (not a ton to be sure). I know a few kids that collect in my limited # of acquaintances (which I've helped foster of course ; ) ).
  15. I recently came across my first ever MJ insert, an ASM 252 in mid grade shape. Basically this is nothing important or scarce, right? I.e. only might have slightly extra value to an MJI collector? Thanks.
  16. ^ Good point, I got my first Overstreet guide in a few years (my last edition was 41, and just go the 44). I compared a few titles between guides to see whether there was any increase from 2013 to 2016 guides. Only checked three titles (so far) and while ASM and FF saw increases (silver, and early bronze maybe), I noticed Thor was flat (no change in past few years).
  17. Wow, got lucky and dodged bullets with this guy, he has the exact kind of stuff I need. But I luckily added him to my 'don't buy from' list before ever placing a bid, because I really didn't like (or trust, I guess) that he uses vague description "higher grade" for anything that might include from 6.5 to 9.0, although on 9.2 and higher books he assigns a precise grade. (And perhaps his scans might not have been high res enough for me to guess my own grade.) Until seeing this thread, I'd frequently wondered if I wasn't missing out on some good books from misplaced stubbornness.
  18. Trying to figure out what the last bullet point means. My handwritten notes are ambiguous. As I recall one of the auction-sellers (not MCS) has a different fee structure if books are raw comics (not CGC etc.). If a person has a box of raw books (or maybe it was non-key raw books) and instead of ebay use someone else to list on their behalf for a commission, then different fees than those posted might apply in contrast to a collection comprised of solely CGC/CBCS books. [Edited because I hate spreading vague or misleading info.]
  19. ^ the sales tax thing at Heritage is by state, fyi, so might not apply to you. (Plus it doesn't even matter since, as we know, all Americans voluntarily pay the sales tax owed even if the auctionhouse doesn't collect at point-of-sale.)
  20. My chart - which was a pain to compile (where were you six months ago, MCS?!) - had a few asterisks. * Sales tax collected by auctionhouse - Heritage * anti-snipe rule postpones auction END until 3 min. after last bid - comic connect (might help sellers get higher hammer price) * some fees may require or prefer CGC books over raw (as seller looking to sub-contract the selling efforts, it might make a diff.)
  21. 4.0. Maybe just a 3.5 because of fc chips and back cover chunk.
  22. Return customer from Ed's thread(s), and again was pleased with transaction. Expected strict grading standards and was not disappointed.
  23. You meant Grandmaster. The other guy was in #196 or so.
  24. Ebay coddles buyers. A savvy buyer always has an out through ebay, if they carefully limit the reason for their return (or canceled transaction) to "I did not buy that, it was a mistake," or "it was different than I thought," etc. It's a cost of selling on ebay. Even if ebay seller wanted (and adopted) policy of "no returns on CGC books," such a policy is practically meaningless since the buyer will find a way to return the book. Sellers still state in ebay listings "no returns" but practically all the bidders seem to have figured out that it's an unenforceable policy if they play it right (paypal protection, with perhaps some lying, is the ebay buyer's province). Here it's basically the frontier with a few basic rules. I agree with everything you've said... It just doesn't address my question. Okay, I'll try a different vector: why do dogs lick their balls?
