  1. Nothing like Stan Lee's name scribbled across the cover...
  2. I had a 50% completed Journey run about 6 years ago. Here is the list of what I had. I'd say anything from 83 - 96 in 9.0 or higher is a pain. 84 being the toughest next would be the 94 and 95. 85 - 9.0 88 - 9.0 91 - 9.2 96 - 9.2 97 - 9.0 98 - 9.2 99 - 9.2 100 - 9.0 101 - 9.2 102 - 9.0/9.2? 108 - 9.2 (Mass) 109 - 9.0 110 - 9.2 111 - 9.0 115 - 9.2 117 - 9.0/9.2 (raw/stolen) 121 - 9.4 124 - 9.2 I sold everything and bought OA.
  3. I dunno. I'm a big fan of 108. I'm a sucker for the yellow covers. 87 is right up there for me...but I'm also quite enamored with #95...then probably 114...93...and 116 to round out my Top 5...108 coming in at a tight #6... Here's my 87... We need to talk
  4. The JIM 87 is the best cover of all the JIM's from 83-125. Love the red/orange colored background with Thor saying how he can't break the chains! It's far more interesting to hear a superhero say what he cannot do, than what he can do.
  5. Quality is stuff like Neal Adams Batman cover and slashes, Bernie Wrightson Swamp Thing cover/spalshes, Bolland Killing Joke pages, Frank Miller DD/ Dark Knight pages ect.. you get the idea. What did you think we meant? In my 15+ years of collecting OA I have never once had the desire to own a page from that list you provided. And is this really the advice to new collectors? Buy Bolland, Wrightson, Frank Miller and only splashes and covers? There are THOUSANDS of great artists but only a small handful are "quality"? I think art and music have a strong parallel where "popular" and "quality" are not always synonymous. I don't let anyone tell me what music I should like and I feel the same about the art I collect. I just took a browse through the latest CLink auction offerings and recognize quite a few "quality" pieces that have made the rounds from "NEW IN YOUR OA COLLECTION" to most viewed/commented on CAF and now on to CLink. The cycle of "quality" continues. I just picked up a complete issue from an artist and I couldn't be happier. His name is unimportant to anyone but me, so I won't bother to mention it. But I will mention the price for all 38 pages and cover was a mere fraction of the other stuff mentioned. Hey look, you asked and I gave you some examples, You go ahead and buy what you want, it ain't my $$$. What do I care if you throw you cash into a fire to keep you warm? If you want to listen to Britney Spears or Justin Bieber and call it "quality music" you have every right to do so! But don't come on here and ask people what is good and what's not and blast them because you didn't like his of her answer. I'm not blasting you because of the answer. I'm more amused that any one person thinks they know the definition of "quality art." Because I think the definition is as varied as the collectors on these boards. It's obvious our definitions are different since my version of quality is your equivalent of throwing cash into a fire. That is the point I was trying to make. So, we agree after all You have to understand, Kevin's self-appointed mission in this thread is to play blowhard. He's done nothing to establish his credibility as a collector of "quality" art, other than toss out a list of what's pricy in established auctions. It's his game, and he feeds his own ego off of the reactions. It's really a little sad. PM me with a link to your complete story -- I'd like to see it. Personally, I don't have any pieces from his "quality" list, but I get a lot of joy out of my collection. In the end, that's what matters. I do have some great pieces that I don't parade them around because I don't need to show stuff off so i can get a "That's nice!" outta someone. You know nothing about me and besides what makes you such a "Credibility collector of quality art"? What have you done for the art community? I'm sure you get "a lot of joy" out of seeing other people's "art" .

  8. So you can get a pat on the back? Great stuff! I mean really, I know what I have, you know what you have, if you love it, then you don't need to be told by someone else that you have a nice art collection. Don't use your art to boost your self esteem! Millionaires do this only with cars, boats, houses and the like.
  9. Avoid posting on CAF? yes, unless you're looking for a buyer.
  10. Best advice I can give anyone entering the OA is this... 1) Buy the best image of the character that made the artist famous you can afford. 2) Don't wait, sitting around waiting will do nothing other than give someone else a chance to buy it before you. 3) Start big, not small. Thinking of selling your comics for OA? Do it, then refer to step 1. 4) Buy quality, not quantity! A Lot of guys like having a lot of something, a big pile of medicore art will do nothing for you when it comes time to sell. Big stuff sells, medicore stuff sits there and collects dust. 5) Protect your OA, put them in mylars. I've seen 30K+ pieces of art just sitting around unprotected just waiting to have a cup of coffee spilled on it. 6) Get insurance or put them in a vault. If you need them to be close to you, take HQ photocopies for your viewing pleasure. 7) Don't overly show it off. The less people see it, the better. It gets old seeing the same piece of art over and over again. When it comes time to sell, it'll be "fresh to the market". Impulse buying is the reason. 8) Make connections. People don't want thier prized art being sold to just anyone. 9) Find a way to fund the hobby...so get on that street corner! 10) If it's not fun for you or can't afford it, get out.
  11. TRANSLATION: I wish I had one I do have one...nice try.
  12. It doesn't, Has a bad top left corner and some color breaking spine creases. Still a nice book though considering how tough this is to find, despite the cream pages.
  13. You can't stop talking about this book!
  14. Don't forget the 35 and 36, both covers are amazing.
  15. I'm calling BS on this auction "I really need the money for this" He's desperate for cash.
  16. Who would want Stan Lee's auto scribbled all over the cover of thier Hulk 1 or AF 15? I don't see it's appeal! When he dies, if he ever does. It's not like his signature is going to on the same level as a Babe Ruth signed baseball. So get that fantasy out of your heads!
  17. oh sure! Just throw out another one from your awesome collection...
  18. Have a thing for the number 11, Dan? I remember you having a 9.4 ASM #11. I tried to get one but got the #14 instead.
  19. I'm thinking this is what's going to happen with the new ASM movie and the GG. Leave out MJ and the GG, Put in a lesser name villain and tell the origin, this way, the villain won't be the center of attention much like what happened in 89 Batman. Take out MJ and let the audiance get to see Peter had someone before MJ named Gwen. ASM Part 2 comes around introduce the GG, Gwen dies in a fall because of the GG, then at the end introduce MJ.
  20. I used to have an ASM 14 in 9.4 OW/W, sold it years ago and bought original art instead. This book really hasn't done much price wise in the last 10 years. I would of thought this would of turned into a 15-20K book in 9.4 which clearly hasn't, I checked GPA and it hasn't moved past the 7-8K mark in ages.
  21. The only CGC book I own Took me forever to find it at a "decent" price.
