  1. If you get the restoration removed and it drops down to an 8.0, it's still worth it.
  2. You don't need to police it "I was told..." told by who? "A source"? Either the buyer pays for it or he doesn't. Most people don't have the deep pockets to pay that anyway. How do you know for a fact the winning buyer doesn't have the funds? Buying history means nothing. Bechara bought a silver age JLA cover art on his wife's ebay account, so you never know what people are capable of
  3. Just leave things like this alone, it's not you're auction or your book or you're money. Of course the auction is going to go high, it's almost impossible to find in HG. It's up to the bidder who wins the auction if they want to pay it, even if there is all kinds of shilling.
  4. I think what he means is that a lot shows aren't about the comics anymore, but rather media and pop culture driven. People are buying other things other than comics. Which is fine of course but it would be nice to see the comics themselves be the star attraction and not some TV show celeb signing autographs for 2 hours
  5. Printing Ink 101 Magenta + Yellow = Bright Red Magenta looks more like a pinkish color when its on paper. That's why they add the yellow to brighten it up. In this case, the red clearly needed to be added, not the yellow as you can see more red is lacking than yellow. Red fountain could have been running dry? Could have cut the red back a bit to save on ink? who knows...I do know it's NOT a "variant"
  6. You should resubmit your books every 7 years because after 7 years the grade is no longer relevant
  7. Carbo always rubbed me the wrong way, some people just have something about them that just says "dishonest" or "snake" and he certainly lived up to it.
  8. Wrightson is among the best of the best, right up there with Frazetta
  9. Because they look great in a slab and are much better protection than a mylar and bag and board. Perhaps you should go join one of the other comic forums where they talk about who can beat who in a fight with other comic readers. You'll fit in nicely with all the other high school and college kids.
  10. Don't see why people are tearing this guy apart for getting a deposit box? I guess it's because his collection isn't valuable enough according to you? A bank vault is still safer than your house. Some people are really going over the top here with the excuses to not get one. Put the most expensive ones in the SDB, take scans of them and put them on myslabbedcomics.com as a way to look at them without having to constantly see them in person.
  11. How many people are in the market for mid-grade $60K copies of not rare books? (If you honestly think it's going to double again in 2-3 years). Once upon a time every decent shop and dealer had one of those hanging up. In 1995 a nice Hulk 181 and an AF 15 like that were the same price, more or less. Don't people with this sort of budget already have the book? At some point a book is too expensive in a common grade for the market to bear those crazy prices. It's a relatively common book, just look at how many copies of AF 14 are available for a few hundred bucks. Go back ten years and you'll see lots of similar posts. All of which turned out wrong. I personally didn't want to spend five figures on the book, thinking that might be the books sweet spot. My first copy ,I paid $125 for and people thought I was nuts then. I'm not saying it can't continue to go up, but not a doubling every 2-3 years. that is unsustainable. its unsustainable in every other sort of investment vehicle. The problem I see with most of the key, hawt books right now often shows up on these very boards - collectors and dealers with 5-10 copies they are trying to unload. The demand at high prices seems to be flippers selling to flippers, and I don't know how many copies end up in the hands of collectors. If you don't cultivate a collector demand, then that run-up in price is eventually going to collapse. Who has 5-10 copies of AF 15 to unload? I'd like to meet him. Flippers are working on low profit margins, 10% or less. There is already is a collector demand, that's why the price is so high! Supply doesn't meet demand.
  12. And you're giving investment advice? Yes, bought it in early December. I don't offerfinancial advice. Simply report on past sales. Well, if you sold it for only $14.500 after paying $9,500 for it, then it means that you must have lost $9,485.500 on the book. I was implying that he sold it too quick
  13. Start doing Amazon FBA, get a resale certificate and start buying wholesale to send into Amazon. You'll make more than sitting on an AF 15 for 5 years which of course is more of a 20-30 year investment than a 5 year one.
  14. I hope once CGC has this completed they put out a youtube video on how to actually use it, I tried using it this morning only to end up frustrated when trying to add multiple books. I found the editable pdf to be easier, since everything was right in front of me at once.
  15. 98% of the LCS owners aren't business men. They pick terrible locations for their stores, Store is really messy and has bad lighting. When was the last time you saw an employee vacuum the rugs? They don't know how to merchandise their product, don't know how to organize the store to optimum sales and run very little, if any sales. Most comic stores I've walked into looks like a glorified teenagers' bedroom. Owners and employees are very lazy, most don't have an online store. If you own a comic store, you need to learn how to retail as well as have a web presence and know to how to clean. I don't feel bad for any LCS that shuts down, if you don't know how to run a store in this day and age you shouldn't have one.
  16. Real simple...Stop the pull lists. The books go on the shelf, first come first serve, they sell out..they sell out. Most shops can't afford to sit on books for months on end.
  17. She-Hulk 52 sells for a lot in 9.8, Adam Hughes cover.
  18. I'd actually gladly welcome FIOS. I dunno about you but in my area, there's a duopoly of cable and slow DSL so cable pretty much has an effective monopoly for internet and they charge accordingly. Alas, the only option to get a different provider is to move. Yep, 9 out of 10 people hate Comcast, and the tenth is dead . . . One might think that the FCC would actually realize this. Finally was able to rid of Comcast, switched over to Frontier.
  19. First of all, Start using UPS to have your packages from CGC mailed to you from now on. Second, Print off any CGC invoice with the book graded on the invoice Third, Print off a few recent ebay/heritage sold auctions from recent past Fourth, Take it all to the Post Office and talk to the person in charge of claims, that person is key because they are the eyes and hears for headquarters aka The person who gets HQ to cut you a check. Also bring the print out of the tracking information with the postal carrier's signature on it for proof that you didn't sign it. I've been through this PO insurance claim before. You should be expecting a $2000 check from the post office, just takes some time.
  20. That's a good deal. Just ordered one. Need a backup printer/scanner anyway. I have a cannon combo pixma (different model) at home, the resolution is ok, but it is slow and I want to jump out the window. I can do 50 scans at the office in like 15 minutes. But I sacrifice some resolution vs. My home scanner. My printer went out and i spent $70 on ink and no go-I need a new printer so HP is sending me one. $70 is gone though sure wish I had just bought this baby. Thats why I bought a color laser printer. don't waste money buying ink.
  21. I think sellers try to put themselves in a position to let buyers know "Don't expect this book to be mint". Also sellers are lazy. rather than investing in a scanner, they just take a few cellphone pics especially if they are a casual seller. If a listing says "NM++ CGC Worthy" that means "I don't want to wait for it to come back and would rather take a 20% of what I could get for it, had I sent it in for grading myself"
