  1. Oh you mean back they the press operators actually cared? Now it's all about numbers and speed.
  2. Wasn't the 1st Boston show at the Boston Convention center or was it at the Expo center? It was one of them.
  3. SS Bane is overpriced, XM has a statue I want that's $2000, so I'll order that instead
  4. Having a hard time entering my UPS account number, it calls for all numbers but my account number has letters in it, so I left out the letters, now it's calling for all 6 digits.
  5. It's awesome, I had one. never cared for the black/grey one but the Modern age is pretty incredible.
  6. I remember when Hulk 181 hit a $1000, everyone was like "Whoah!!! NM 98 is heavily submitted. How is a NM 98 trading at 2015 levels not realistic? It's already happened. Hot comics are like the stock market, they go up and down but slowing increase over long periods of time as long as there is demand. Should NM 98 trade at 2015 levels again? That depends on the market wants to do, some may not like it but pricing isn't dictated by one person very much like how much we all pay for gas.
  7. You mean no more Deadpool, Lobo and Valiant?
  8. Comics were printed on flexograph presses, web size was small. 10 or 12 inches or so. Plates don't cost much, we use 66 inch plates and they run around a $100 a plate. Need 8 of them though, 4 colors, top and bottom. You have to replenish the ink cause the ink fountain doesn't hold enough ink for the entire job.
  9. The press operator doesn't say " we need more gloss on the book" want a brighter looking cover? Add more yellow. What Printing experience do you have? You have to remember, printing technology back in the 60s was terrible.
  10. It's part of what helps me understand how CGC grades books and helps my learning process along. If anything, I'd say it's very useful information. Just so you know, No printing company can "add gloss" doesn't matter if it's postcards or comics, no such thing as "adding gloss" You can always call CGC and talk to a grader to understand what they are looking for.
  11. Only slightly correct, when customers switch printing plants (usually cause they got a better price) the new plant will want to impress the new customer with a higher quality product so they'll beef up the color to make a good impression. all that is true, but the visual difference has less to do with any extra efforts with inks or printing quality assurance than to the paper stock used on the covers that changed. The new paper handled gloss better. Hold a Captain Marvel against any earlier 60s Marvel and the difference is clear. I think that once Marvel came out of their restrictive 11 books a month restriction imposed in the late fifties when they moved to DCs distributor, (I forget what exactly happened there) and they started adding vigorously to their list of titles, they made a better deal with the new printer to handle the load and get a better deal with their new clout in the industry. Yup. 1950's and early DC's were very different than Marvels from the same era. It's possible that the DC paper didn't age as gracefully as Marvels (I think White page Marvels from 1962 in particular are not uncommon) but white page DCs seem to be tougher. But the DC paper stock seemed much stronger than Marvel's 'newsprint' interiors and thin cover stock. Marvel inks also seemed inferior during this era. I think the above reasons are why Marvels and DC's from the same era are graded slightly differently. At the end of the day, it's all useless information. If you say so. I'll disagree. What's the point of knowing what ink and stock they used? Books were printed on cheap paper using cheap ink. Comics were never meant to be saved. DC and marvel most likely used different companies

  13. I wouldn't necessarily say 31K is now the "new price value" for that book. These big books like that rise and fall all the time, it's really what matters how it does over the course of the long term, I highly doubt this book with fall any further 20-25 years from now. The problem is that some people get impatient and sell far too early. People use the excuse "Well the last one sold for XXXXX.00 last month" as leverage to get a cheaper price. I wouldn't worry about the price of this book one bit.
  14. I have a small chip on my BB 28 5.0 but it's not as big as it is on that 5.5. Other than the chip on the 5.5, it has nice eye appeal. I don't get caught up in trying to call out CGC on their grading like others do...it doesn't fix anything.
  15. I've pretty much have given up on statue collecting, After going over my bills months ago, the bleeding needed to stop, I ended up canceling all pre orders. I just sold my Batman Modern Age PF that "I just had to have" Superman will soon be sold too. I have no room in this 600 sq apartment with these giant boxes piling up they've become basically expensive paper weights. Rather have comics. I've kept Keir, The Queen and Apocolypse so far. They do look great and SS does a great job but I just can't justify spending $500+ a statue anymore when that money can be put to better use like in my savings account, paying bills or adding to my cgc collection.
  16. Just what I don't need in my life... a life like doll of Margot Robbie ;D
  17. That's good to see. I have a newsstand copy, but someone at the plant screwed up and added a cover by mistake. Cover get printed separate from the rest of the book and a machine puts them on, so if the machine can put on multiple covers at once if it's not inserted correctly and since they do so many, it goes unnoticed. That's why I can't understand people paying big money for these double and triple covers.
  18. Those aren't 1982-1992. You're right, glad to see you're paying attention

  20. I saw it today, little too much of the cheesy one liners, visual effects were great. Movie moved along quick, now that the origin is over it'll be interesting to see a sequel. 3 out of 4 stars
