  1. Newton rings are normal. If you've ever bought a pack of mylars, you get Newton rings using those as well. It's just the material that's being used.
  2. Since it's stolen, he could try to sell it coverless. Coverless copies still command a lot of money.
  3. The only other thing I can think of besides security camera's that would help prevent theft would be some kind of 8-foot tall plus metal grid panel fencing that you'd put behind and on both sides of your booth such that no one could stick their hands in and grab anything. They also wouldn't be able to come in over the top. Similar idea to those tall racks you see large vendors selling the shirts and Funko's. The only point of entry would then be from the front of the booth. https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/storage/wire-mesh-partitions/wire-mesh/wire-mesh-panel-5x8?infoParam.campaignId=T9F&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4Nzcs7SN3QIVj1cNCh0wcQfOEAkYASABEgI2FvD_BwE
  4. Then he might want to contact a lawyer. If the promoters of the show allowed another vendor to set up to where they posed a threat to the safety and security of other vendors at the show this could be brought before a court. Keep in mind assuming Leroy has liability insurance this incident could affect his relationship with his insurance company. After paying him out, it's possible they drop coverage which because of the incident he's also a victim of. The sign show thing has gotten way out of control the last few years. I was looking at Vincent Zurzolo's Facebook Page and saw Greg Reece's Rare Comics massive billboard size display banner which looked like it was 50 feet above his display booth. Hell, you could have seen that banner he had up at the convention center upper deck at Wrigley Field.
  5. Theft, such as in this case, which by the way has become more rampant over the years, is why I've never set up at shows. Sure you take all the valuable books down at night, leave and cover the cheaper long boxes but do you trust the yellow shirt security detail not to steal your stuff (if you can even call them that)? What happens when you take the more valuable books back to your hotel? You post a sign for room service not to come in but usually they do anyways, and it doesn't matter the star rating of the hotel. I've had a $3000 company laptop jacked in a $500 a night Four Seasons. Theft can occur at any hotel and at any time. With all the stuff going on with the Patriot Act you can't set up at many comic book shows or flea markets anymore without providing them a tax ID so dodging online sales to sell in person for cash isn't as lucrative as it used to be. If I had high dollar inventory, I'd use the shows to advertise and bring on new consignments. Maybe if booth prices were cheap enough, I'd bring some books valued at less than $20 and push those, but there is no way in Hell I'd be bringing five and six-figure books to a comic book show. Your heavy hitters tend to work a lot, rarely get out and would just assume buy what they want online.
  6. The perp probably has a ton of priors, and I doubt this is his/her first rodeo. It takes some serious kahunas to walk up and commit grand larceny in broad daylight like that at one of the largest comic book shows in the country. Perhaps officers can look at priors, active probation directories and maybe they even have other reports of goods stolen at nearby comic and big box shops in the Chicago area. Were there any overhead surveillance cameras in place at the convention center?
  7. Try searching periodically using these links and keywords: amazing fantasy, comic, cgc, ect. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/chicago/ https://www.searchtempest.com/search?search_string=amazing fantasy&category=8&subcat=sss&hasPic=&srchType=&minAsk=&maxAsk=&minYear=&maxYear=&cityselect=zip&location=60007&maxDist=500&region_us=1&region_can=1&region_mex=1&Region=combined&addCities=&subCities=&q=amazing+fantasy++"for+sale"
  8. And Facebook Marketplace. The perp, if he has half a brain, will undoubtedly be removing it from the holder and trying to alter the appearance for a quick resell. Since it's stolen them making $500 on a $40k would be profitable. Watch out for dumps locally in the Chicago area. He's apparently done some research if he took that exact title (is there a more liquid book in the hobby than AF15?). If they deslab the book and alter its appearance it's going to be hard to catch them and prove that it was stolen.
  9. That has to be one of the nicest AF15 5.0's I've ever seen in that grade. No Marvel chipping, dead on QP/registration and white pages.
  10. The prices are very reasonable for average collectors, but it gets expensive real quick if you sell online and are a full or part-time dealer. Then you are talking hundreds if not thousands of dollars per year.
  11. http://www.ebaystores.com/READY-SET-COLLECT Fantastic customer service and excellent pricing. I needed some magazine mylars and E. Gerber wanted a $100 minimum, so I went to ready_set_collect and was able to get a smaller order. Quick shipment, knowledgeable and very friendly.
  12. What are the differences between the two? If the Anniverscary issue has been removed the plastic sleeve and comparing the issue with the original from 1958 how can you tell the difference? Thanks.
  13. I finally got around to screening Wonder Woman and thought it was just meh. I don't understand all the hype. Robin Wright and Chris Pine were both completely miscast. Wright's a decent actress at best, but her part wasn't believable. The blonde hair, the butchered Greek accent; even though the fight sequences were heavily choreographed her acting style did not translate well into a real warrior fighter. Chris Pine, on the other hand, I've never been a fan of; Kirk Cameron, Hallmark Channel level acting ability though somehow he's managed a way into more mainstream productions. The film tried to convey a serious tone, and his persona didn't mix well with everything else that was going on. Gal Gadot was spectacular. She's exactly how I envision Wonder Woman. So beautiful and elegant and I found myself eyeballing her even when she wasn't saying anything. Getting back to the choreographed fighting, I'm tired of seeing the slow-motion Matrix-style fight sequences that have been repeatedly used in other films throughout the years such as Dredd, Sherlock Holmes, Watchmen, you name it. Is it too much to ask to bring back live action battles sequences such as the ones in Braveheart, Gladiator and The Black Panther? Stop using the slow-motion CGI fight sequences. Then there was the copying of Ares supernatural abilities from the X-Men. In watching that scene where Diana and Ares go head to head I thought I was watching DC/Marvel crossover with Magneto. As bad as the DC cinematic universe has been the last two decades take note as that's as close as Disney/Fox/Marvel will ever get to co-producing a film with Warner Brothers/DC. I also didn't like how the director wrote the part of Wonder Woman. I've always pictured Wonder Woman in comics as someone who's omniscient and off the charts brilliant, and there were times where Wonder Woman was written as intellectually inferior in comparison to some of her male counterparts.
  14. He probably fast-tracked the Pep #22 for completeness and restoration check and the rest of the bunch are still in Florida awaiting grading. That would be my guess.
  15. @Bomber-bob I told you so. Next time you should listen.
  16. One of my pet peeves on eBay are messages like the following I received this morning: "Hello I’m interested in the XXXX. I’m retired from the Army and 100 % disabled. What would you be comfortable with as an offer? Regards Bruce" I appreciate your service as I do other military personnel, doctors and my attorney (not politicians LOL), but what in Christ's name does that have to do with me accepting your low ball offer?
  17. Bob, what's going through your head when a customer instructs you on how to mail them their package?
  18. While there's always exceptions, for trades I’d pass unless the book was scarce or key (very liquidable). If I took the trade it’d be something like 50% of current GPA otherwise it would be a no go. You’re coming to me wanting me to help you acquire something you don't want to pay cash for. Now the exception to this is the big books when you are dealing with high rollers where cash is not king. For some books, it takes a trade to acquire something extraordinary and rare.
  19. Bob you in for a little shirts versus skins game?
  20. Wow! Very Nice old label. Was this one from the Gas Station collection you found?
  21. Great report. Would have attended if I was still living in Nashua. Nice to see the Hotflips brothers set up. BTW how was parking?
  22. I'm about through shipping the UV Digital Codes with the Blu-ray discs I sell on eBay. What's happening is unethical buyers are redeeming them immediately upon arrival, then opening up a case in the resolution center against me that the movie came not as described with no UV Digital Code included when I know if listed and stated as such in the description section it in fact did. The problem is that once the UV Digital Code has been redeemed, it can no longer be used. They pull this stunt to get free movies. It's actually quite pathetic.
  23. No different than your treasuries. Corporations in a healthy economy buy back their shares and resell for profit all the time. Such practices are vital to maintaining consumer interest.
