  1. It’s certainly a classic story; Lee confronts racism among the Howlers as they go after Rommel. But I don’t know any new external reason that would be bringing heat to it.
  2. The rumors are true! It got late early today, but there will be 12 pages of Fables coming (Mark Buckingham and Dan Green)
  3. per PM! Blue Beetle #8 pg 13 goes to….Thee … Unstoppable! …. Jaaaaaay!!!!! ….. DEEEEE!!!! Thank you Jay!
  4. That Showcase 43 is a no-brainer for someone. Tough book for sure. A fairly high grade copy sits in my black hole collection or I’d nab it.
  5. My first thought was Thomas too, as Marvel’s Bronze Age was pretty much built on his back. Claremont’s massive contribution is narrow and deep in that it’s one slice of Marvel bronze, but it’s not that narrow in that it is one of the widest slices. Everything Lee brought to a single teen with Peter Parker, Claremont brought to an entire team/family of teenish heroes. Conway’s impact is a great call too, as is O’Neil. Hard to argue with revamping the Dark Knight and the GL/GA run. And how many new characters at Marvel and DC came out of Kirby in that era?? And Miller if you don’t count his as copper sure he’s right in there too. I’d even put Michelinie in there with Demon in a Bottle. You could maybe group them, but whoever is #1 is hard to put head and shoulders above everyone else. It’s a fertile era.
  6. Thank you; it is too late for me to do it tonight but I will add some Fables to the thread in copper/modern.
  7. Brain fart! Thanks Aardvark! TOS #59; the Cap solo start-up issue. My tired brain typed TTA. Thank you! I’ll go edit original post for clarity. I don’t recall hearing ASM 33 personally but I wouldn’t doubt it either. Hoping Shadroch remembers more too.
  8. Such a great story to share; thank you Shadroch! I believe they came from the Robert Bell collection that Koch and Gary Dolgoff bought? I’ve heard other dealers who have been at it a long time in the northeast say FF48 was one of the books in the collection that came in an unopened distributor case quantity. TOS 59 was another, and I recall at least one Strange Tales but the # escapes me now. Do you recall other “case books” from their Bell purchase? IM/SM#1? Of course, 300 copies this many years later isn’t exactly a flooded market but it is still interesting history.
  9. I can add some Fables pages if there's interest (Mark Buckingham/Dan Green) though they are not quite as cheap as the Blue Beetles.
  10. I can add some Fables pages (Mark Buckingham/Dan Green) if there's any interest, though they are not quite as cheap as the BB's.
  11. We ARE all comic book junkies; it’s our idea of a treat! You run a fun thread, sir Bob!
  12. Thanks Pete! I thought the same thing when I picked them up. Seeing them together made me feel like it was a little window on how Cullins and/or Barras works. I imagine they were fleshing out concepts for this series or something else, but then again maybe they were just doodling to practice their chops Either way, it makes them cooler and more fun!
  13. I've got some affordable Blue Beetle original art up over in Copper:
  14. Fun stuff, Eli! That Wolverton book is cool, for those who have never seen it. And Thrilling Adventure 1&2 is a complete run; can't have a full Atlas/Seaboard output set without them! GLWTS!
  15. Hank Pym through all his iterations, while second tier, is to the Avengers what Martian Manhunter is to the JLA — a kind of backbone character through the years. Plus, pre-internet, the book was practically apocryphal. Just didn’t turn up in LCS’s much. And it’s early Marvel: one of three 10-cent books at the birth of the marvel hero era, along with FF 1 and 2. Like many books, the movie era lifted its price point, but it was an established key before that. Different situation than say Groot and #13. Hope this helps.
  16. He didn’t bring back Woodgod. How good could he be?
  17. I’ve posted 10 pages from Blue Beetle #8 & #9 over in Copper/Modern, at $100 each plus shipping. All are Paris Cullins pencils and Dell Barras inks. Many have sketches on back too. Picked these up from a collector’s estate a couple years ago and decided it’s time to share most of them. (I have a couple keepers as I loved this series and character, and I donated one as a prize in last year’s Christmas raffle on the boards. I did not have both/either issues in their entirety.) I’ve bought and sold many books on the boards; see my judos thread for references. This is a boards-only sale; they are not out there elsewhere. Sharing some affordable OA within our community. Enjoy!
  18. Blue Beetle #9 page 14. Paris Cullins pencils, Dell Barras inks. Pencil sketches of some pterodactyl-looking guy on back. $100
