  1. This is how I feel about sigs too. I like autographs; I love comics; they are not chocolate and peanut butter. I'm with Roy about FF#1 and undervalued; its future depends on the extent to which future collectors understand its historic significance. More prominence for the characters in current media (comics, movies, games etc) of course would help, but it's really on dealers and collectors to also be historians. Barring that, I see the Thing having a 70's style future a la Aquaman -- outsized recognition outside the hobby due to be being an underoos all-star more so than a prominent character in comics. But FF1 is a damn important book and should be a big deal; that alone is not enough. Hulk v Thor-related: anyone out there a collector of classic Marvel slugfests? Don't want to derail, but if there's love for those it may make a great Silver thread topic that I'm happy to start.
  2. I absolutely agree about the why; they have both probably been under the radar too long and that's no longer the case. The Tec with that purple cover is tough to find in really nice shape, and the HOS, in terms of availability compared to its other bronze key peers, is the TTA 27 of bronze. I agree with you they are timeless classics, both finally getting their day in the sun. (I've always thought of HOS92 as a book that doesn't sit around long, but boy has its chaser base seemed to grow in the last few months.)
  3. How about Tec 359 and (though it's early bronze) HOS 92? At least in my anecdotal observation, they both seem on the move.
  4. Ok fellow boardies, that is all there is to offer from this original owner collection. Thanks to all who looked, purchased and PM'ed. There's still a fair amount of items left; (recap is third post on first page; everything but the ones that went up a half hour or so ago are there.) I will leave the thread open for at least 24 hours but close it by the end of the holiday weekend so I can get piles prepped and ready to head to new homes. PM's are always welcome. Once this original owner offering is wrapped up, I will be going through my collection for other items to offer, as I have identified two local GA piles that I am pursuing, so you may soon see another offering or two from me. Thanks everyone and I hope you have had as much fun as I have with this original owner find. I've kept a handful of items, and sold a DD7 and a few JIM's and a TOS 48 privately, but there was fewer than 100 books total, so you have seen most of it. Between the date stamps and initials, these are pretty cool books. (Example initials below are from DD#6) Enjoy!
  5. Made a last-minute decision to make a stop on the way home last night. Glad I did!
  6. Tales of Suspense #49, VG minus. This one's significant six ways to Sunday: 1st X-Men crossover (same date as X-Men #3), 1st Avengers crossover, 1st Tales of the Watcher, 2nd appearance of the Watcher, Iron Man vs the Angel, 2nd red and yellow armor. Date stamp by the lower right corner of the "S" and nice "M.R." inside. $60
  7. Tales of Suspense #50, 1st appearance of the Mandarin. I'll say VG minus, about a 3.5. Some upper right color-breaking creases and a small piece off the upper right back cover corner, but bright flat clean and glossy otherwise. Some chipping at top, lower right corner bend, spine flaws apparent in pix. I know the movie version disappointed everyone, but this is still the Iron Man villain. $75
  8. Tales of Suspense #51 GVG. The OSPG points out that it's the first appearance of The Scarecrow; I wonder why? Does this guy even recur? It's not like he's the Batman foe Scarecrow. Go figure. Anyway, there's a cool back-up story where Larry Lieber is inked by Matt Fox, and they remind me of Wolverton. Cool stuff. $30
  9. Okay, how about an affordable copy of an awesome mid-60's Marvel key? Tales of Suspense #58, GD minus, I'd call it about a 1.8. First Captain America in the title, Cap vs Iron Man classic cover, and the 2nd appearance of Kraven the Hunter. SOLD! ($20)
  10. Ok, let's bring it on home! The last eight books that I am offering from this collection are posting within the next half hour, so grab your popcorn...
  11. Recap (3rd post, page 1) updated. Eight books to go, will get them up tonight and then close out in a couple of days. Thanks all!
  12. Tales of Suspense #63 GD- Again, color loss along lower right and bottom, upper right corner. Faint top center date stamp. Origin of Captain America. $10
