  1. Groggy, you are the high-grade raw copy-sniffing equivalent of a bloodhound! I would pay to watch one of your long box diving sessions! Well done, once again maestro!
  2. Sorry MB but you misunderstood me because I failed to edit down the quote from Vodou to just the part about how some of the coolest stuff in fine art is often on the back. I was agreeing with that point, saying we get that sometimes in comics OA too, but I think I should have snipped down how much I quoted from him. Sorry to confuse!
  3. This happens with comics art too. I got a page of Romita Jr from his first issue of Iron Man, #116, and on the back, uninked, is a bust of Tony Stark. He was clearly working things out, and it makes the page a lot cooler, IMO.
  4. In defense of provenance, I Do think its cool to capture the history of our hobby. Just not on the objects. As many have said, I would record it elsewhere, and pass it along. To answer the OP's post, unless it was a must-have piece for me, I probably would pass. I don't like autographs on comics either, generally. I certainly don't want scrawl on the cover of a key. I'd rather have the autograph separately, and only if it stems from a meanginful personal encounter. (Standing in line to fork over money does not meet my criteria of a meaningful autograph.) But that's just me; I know there's a market. Cool creator, signature inside the book, book not a major key or rarity, I can live with that. I'm thinking as I type here --- kind of apples and oranges, perhaps, as I would not mind a creator signing a piece of OA -- in the margin.
  5. Brawling on a bridge to brawling on the Statue of Liberty
  6. Yes, for sure it would have to be a close, old friend...someone you could send the $$ to first. We're talking childhood friend type; it was a longshot.
  7. Do you have an out of state friend who could order it for you?
  8. The last time I bought a collection with a bunch of these, I could not even move 221, 244, 248, 282, 283 etc to dealers. 212, 213 do seem to move, but other than those and of course 266 I've not had much luck with that era of X-Men. Just my anecdotal experience in my neck of the woods.
  9. Sorry; correct concept, wrong set of insufficiently_thoughtful_persons. My bad. anyway, I was just having fun with Kav and Oak last night; I don't mean to get political. More importantly, Solar Boy's thread is important and instructive.
  10. Dunno Kav; I fear Joe Blow out there might've got in on the kind of support base that thinks it's a good idea, sadly.
  11. So the California state government is voluntarily paying the same protection money that NYC pizza shops used to dread being asked for, lest their windows need replacing weekly? Got it. Could you guys please move outta there so I can root wholeheartedly for the Cascadia Subduction Zone???
  12. Thx! I've certainly puzzled on it based on many discussions and the OSPG claims, but it seems to me the Boys Ranch work A) looks consistent through all 6 issues and B) looks a whole lot less like either Mort Meskin or Jerry Robinson, who are the names often mentioned as doing finishes on the series. I think we had this discussion in another thread; I need to take the damn thing off the wall and bring it along next time I visit Joe Sinnott; I've collected plenty of knowledgeable opinions (yours included) but getting his can't hurt. Regardless, I posted it here to celebrate Kirby's 100th, and Boys' Ranch is a cool Kirby creation; cheers to the King and thank you for all you left us!
  13. I've heard that before. Opinions vary widely. Was sold to me as such; guide suggests otherwise. Looks like Kirby to me, and it was a very important project to him.
  14. Last call! I'll close in about an hour, at 11 p.m. Tonight! (EST) Thank you to all buyers, lookers and PM'ers (Though I am closing the thread, I will conclude any ongoing PM discussions thereafter, of course.)
  15. You read my mind! That is an awesome cover, but then you open it up, and....
  16. And I do like the western one too, including the SA Marvel revival!
  17. Y'know, I felt the same about the bike, even though obviously the concept called for it. I guess that's why I feel he needs drastic re-imagining. He was often played as a straight superhero...heck, even Champions membership...he needs someone who knows bikes and supernatural to do for him what Larry Hama did for GI Joe as a true military enthusiast. The bike should be both badass and ephemeral; flying and becoming intangible. And he needs art that is somewhere between Colan's TOD or early 70's DC gothic horror feel a la Wrightson or Redondo. I keep seeing him in those broad daylight superhero panels by Don Heck in Champions, or Milgrom in that Avengers issue that wrapped up the Champions storyline (desert, sunshine) and it just misses so much potential.
  18. Yes, +1 to everything, but also thank you for the courage to share your story beyond the fact of the stolen books. I cannot be the only one for whom it is a wake-up call. I don't sell on CL but I check out stuff to buy often...same difference, as surely the scam works in reverse (expecting buyers to show up with cash). I always leave it locked in the car until I can assess whether I am going to proceed, but that is not 100%. I would think many of us buy, sell or both there.
