  1. Yes, I was a touch harsher, with the staples and all. I think I scored six this round - and half of them were on that one book
  2. I didn't see that mark on any other copies online, so went for a hole/tear as that is certainly what it looks like. It's a gamble when you don't have the book in hand to confirm, and the image isn't of a high enough resolution. I marked it down to a 9.0 as I wouldn't personally give a 9.6 to any book with a cover hole or tear like that - certainly not one that visible. There are lots of constraints here, so it's not really a fair judgement on anyone's grading abilities. There's a large element of guess work and luck, even. And the dark images and black backgrounds don't work for me, especially when the images are fuzzy when enlarged. That said, if I were to win, or come in the top three, then it would be a very fair indication of abilities and would show that I was indeed an excellent grader.
  3. The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities, some consider to be unnatural.
  4. I prefer the hair up. And a belly button is always nice to see.
  5. Bullets and Bracelets bring us up to 1,335 confirmed APVs now. Being a new APV one shot it brings the title list up to 109 and the actual issues published in the date range (where one or more APVs exist) up to 1,720. Plus our 82 Conan magazine titles: And now we have two 1996 trade paperback / graphic novels:
  6. It's always fun to see how eBay lots with 'hidden' books go, isn't it. Not that there is any such thing as hidden now for auction style lots. Being the first to spot a BIN is the only way to snag a bargain today, now all those speculator eyes are pouring over every lot. The initial listing pictures, 99p no reserve start: And the inevitable added picture, once all the queries came in! The final hammer price: A nice pence Hulk for someone out there....
  7. Two new! Fingers crossed for the other April 96 Marvel Amalgam - Magneto and His Magnetic Men
  8. Join the conversation here Albert: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/488611-a-discussion-about-how-cgc-label-non-us-publications-which-reprint-reproduce-original-us-comic-content/page/21/#comment-12311541
  9. To be confirmed, Yorick. I couldn't match the content to an original book despite looking up every comic I could find with a similar title. The GCD record suggests that the title was changed - that seems to be a good call as the 'flirt' wording has clearly been changed in the story text so it follows that the title would have been too. It's quite interesting comparing content actually, and seeing what has been either changed or omitted completely. Anything suggesting domestic violence seems to be out.
  10. It is Senormac. But the name I was using was Onya, as in the artist.
  11. I'm pretty sure it was Karl. Pretty sure it was his brother Skid Not his sister Onya?
  12. Curtains for Curtain Road! Just like the old Miller building. Me neither - they won't stop coming! Definitely more out there, as I left one behind by mistake. Ahh, I love comics....
  13. Cover banner: A Streamline Pictorial Romance (6d 'dumbbell' style) Priced at 6d 28 pages Double stapled Black and white interior pages 7" x 9 & 3/8" They Called Me A Flirt is one of what I call the 'dumbbell' covers - by that I mean that the cover banner comprises two 6d priced circles connected by the Streamline Pictorial Romance wording, appearing rather like a dumbbell in shape: There are four issues with that banner style so far. The indicia reads "Streamline Publications Ltd, 105 Curtain Road, London, E.C.2, Printed by Dyson Bros., Gladstone Street, Peterborough": The Stories this time are: Story #1: They Called Me A Flirt (the comic's title): This story originally appeared in TBC Story #2: I Was A Slave To Love This story originally appeared in 1950's My Past Thrilling Confessions #11: The story here is missing the splash page from the original, possibly due to its rather threatening nature. The 'I Was A Slave to Love' title wording, curiously, is in a different text and missing the exclamation mark of the original. Story #3: Cheated This story originally appeared in 1949's My Secret Story #26: Once again, the rather aggressive splash page of the original is absent. The story title is changed and the top word box of the original is absent to accommodate the new one.
  14. My guess would be no, Bobby. For Marvel, Mark Jewelers only appeared in limited numbers of newsstand copies. They have been well researched, are well loved, and are collected by a small but avid group who will often be prepared to pay a premium for the copy they need. They are a known 'thing', in comics - a separate, collectable entity. If you mean these (Amazing Spider-Man #343 example shown)... ...the Tiger Electronics inserts appeared, to the best of my knowledge, in all Direct Editions of the limited Marvel comics that featured them. That makes them less rare, unusual etc. They are not really 'a thing' and, consequently, are unlikely to ever catch on to the degree that people will routinely seek them out and / or pay a premium for them. In my experience, the only inserts that seem to get collectors animated are the Mark Jewelers, National Diamond Sales and Pizzazz - hence their absence from this summary that I put together as a Spidey collector some years ago:
  15. Cover banner: This is a STREAMLINE Pictorial Romance Priced at 6d 28 pages Double stapled 6 & 7/8" x 9 & 7/8" The Frightened Bride is a little bit naughty really, claiming to be an 'All In Colour' book. Lots of black and white inside, along with single colour pages (much like the Marvel UK weeklies). The indicia is a 'Streamline Publications Ltd' one, 105, Curtain Road, London, printed by The New Avenue Press Ltd, 3/4 Sherwood Street, London W.I. I must Google those locations at some point, and see whether there are any signs remaining that they were ever there: The Stories this time are: Story #1: I Was a Frightened Bride (happily, given the comic's title) This story originally appeared in 1949's My Experience #19: Story #2: I Was a Shrew This story originally appeared in 1952's Popular Teen-Agers 14: Note that the UK reprint is missing the original splash page - possibly due to the bottom smacking? Story #3: He Turned Me Down This story also originally appeared in Popular Teen-Agers 14:

  17. No, it was that her story wasn't all in colour after all. This would be referenced in a later issue titled "Trade Descriptions Act" (itself the continuation of the preceding issue's story, "Tradesman's Entrance".) It's amazing what you learn.
