  2. We have 68 participants confirmed so far - plenty of spaces left if anyone else wants to have a crack at winning one of the grading credit prizes. CGC have offered up $850 for this one, split into three prizes of $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd. Whichever way you look at it, that's a good amount of money and shows the commitment they have to the forum I won't be playing this time as I will be away when it all kicks off - good luck to everyone who joins in. And spread the word, if you know someone who may have missed the announcement. Here's who has signed up to date, in alpha-numeric order. You can't just sit by and let one of them win, can you......? 1Cool Action Comics ADAMANTIUM Asianassassincomics aszumilo Axe Elf Axelrod batcollector Bird Black_Adam BlowUpTheMoon Brock Cocomonkey comicginger1789 Comics4All Comicshows Crops068 Cushing Fan davidtere DeadOne Dimez DocSaum EastEnd1 EricLB fastballspecial grebal grendelbo Hudson jas1vans jbpez JJ Speederman JJ-4 Just Visiting kav KPR Comics KryptoMayor littledoom marmat Motor City Rob MrRoboto musicmeta Nic8612 Norinn Radd oakman29 old_dano onlyweaknesskryptonite pastandpresentcomics PeterPark Point Five PunisherPunisherPunisher Sauce Dog silverage12c silverseeker sledgehammer spidermanbeyond Stefan_W stynxno Superman2006 szav TheGeneral timguerrero topcat54 topofthetotem toro universal soldier Wipple Wolverinex zzutak

  10. Holy Cow indeed! Look at that Oh, we'd have bought them all, wouldn't we. Flippin hobby!
  11. Was it air then? Maybe a really bad fart that you breathed in, or something like that?
  12. I heard that they found a custom made one, that Nancy Drew.
  13. This is a Streamline Pictorial Romance Journal Entry Hello Every now and again I like to collect and showcase a group of British books that sit some way off of the average collector's radar. I'm sure there are experts and romance collectors out there who know all or a bit about them, but they don't appear to have shared much information online if so. Indeed, most of them don't even appear on the GCD, with only five issues listed at the time of writing. Still, I wouldn't want to see them disappear into comic obscurity so they can have an online appreciative home here for as long as CGC keep the lights on. I'm by no means an expert on these myself, to be clear, but I've been collecting examples for a while now and thought I'd now spread the word on them a bit to perhaps see how many we can confirm exist. I'll add details of the indicias, size, page count and story content against each issue as I go, and will have a go at identifying the original publication reproduced too. I may have a go at identifying an order of publication too, using things like size, format, quality, pricing and font variations... Well, it's something to do, isn't it. I've created a Gallery for these books too, of the copies I own, if only to have a go at mucking about with available board functionality. It's a bit clunky though, the Invision Gallery software, hence this hopefully easier to read / interact with journal entry. You can find that Gallery here: Click on Where else could you expect to see Cathy and I, by Get Marwood & I... All good fun So there we have it - Streamline Pictorial Romance comic books; they're crudely made, appealingly basic - rare as hens teeth (and about as valuable) - and I love them. I hope some of you do too. N.B. This journal is best viewed on a desktop device
  14. By the way, Rich - have you come across many photos of Fred Thorpe? This seems to be him: I haven't found one of Porter yet
  15. It's this one, Rich: https://www.comicsbeat.com/poisoned-chalice-part-4-intermission-1963-to-1982/ The focus is Marvelman, but there's lots of commentary in there which will be of interest, if you haven't seen it before - I bookmarked it long ago due to the Miller content. It's in four parts, so work backwards I had a go at mapping out a Miller history yesterday, based on all the various references and sources I've gathered. Not one of them covers or even mentions their distribution role (in respect of original US comics). Sad to think they're all gone now. Long gone, in some cases. I've asked the tech team here for a second journal - if they can pull it off (no guarantees, with Invision software), a Miller history will hopefully be one of the entries
  16. I found this snippet from a blog online whilst gathering Miller info - it tallies with my own feel as to how long it likely took for books to reach the UK in those early days: If true, maybe our gaggle of 6 stamps here were those first January 1960 books....
  17. I agree, it displays the characteristics of sun fade. I'm not sure how it will affect the grade, if they spot it. Nice book to have either way.
  18. Indeed. It's what inspired Barry Manilow, I believe. I suppose we should look at it from his angle, really, shouldn't we. Night chuckles
  19. That's definitely how you guys would portray it in a film, yes. Movie, sorry.
  20. I did, and it did. No second 'n' though. Google says Arronvee say they were owed a bit by TeeanPee when they went bankrupt, apparently. It's printed, I think, as it's in the exact same place on every copy. No one could be that consistent, not even Ethel. She was better than Iris, you see. Mebbe. Mebbe nobbe. More likely nobbe, as also always in same placee. Which reminds me, I haven't updated these in a while.
  21. @shadroch, I'm pulling your leg mate. I have no doubt whatsoever that some UK stamped US comics made it to those places you visited back in the day, whether by design, or just by some chap seeing a chance to make a buck and taking a suitcase load of them over. But there's nothing documented anywhere that I have seen to suggest any formal, systematic distribution arrangement, is my point. The indicias don't say "Exclusively printed for Thorpe & Porter, sole distributors in the UK, Jamaica and Bermuda", after all. On the printed 9d copies, that is. I was just pulling your leg, in the same way I'm sure you would if I had ventured into one of your many areas of expertise. Go on, give us a smile
  22. Yes, I can produce lots of photos of Bermuda without them in, Shad
