  1. Some of his panels stick in my mind, hence the fondness. These two from #176 are typical of him - some superb Goblins but, admittedly, a naff Spidey nose. I don't suppose Ross drew the nose, so maybe noses were Tony's thing:
  2. Mebbe. I didn't buy any of them off the stands of course - I bought the UK weeklies. Much later before I got my hands on the originals. 1,666 posts! It's an Omen.
  3. To a lesser degree, I always thought Mooney 'Mooney'd' certain books too, and I wasn't a huge fan, spotting his influence over the finished art. Even as a kid, I found the visual change from 177 to 178 - two of the issues that inspired me to start this thread, funnily enough - a tad jarring. Mooney Gobby looked a trifle silly compared to Esposito Gobby, I thought. These things mattered back then. 'Don't mess with my art', I'd think to myself.
  4. Hi Jennifer, If this is the official position, could I ask you to arrange for the main website to be updated here: https://www.cgccomics.com/grading/holder/ The revised text should read: Crystal-clear Display The crystal-clear plastic’s superior optics unleash a comic’s true color and vibrancy. The redesigned label is cleaner and easier to read, showcasing the grade and even more details about the book, and allowing you to easily identify the book from both the front and back. Despite careful handling, minor scratches and scuffs that do not distract from the encapsulated book may be present and are considered acceptable. Especially when they prevent Newton Rings. Fair's fair.
  5. Not a lot to report on the Dell front, apart from this copy which I picked up in replacement of my previous copy which had been attacked, appropriately enough, by a mouse: It has its own issues in the same bottom left corner spot in the form of a tear, but no one likes a rat nibble. Having two copies always invites pence price placement comparisons: Automated!
  6. I can't make my mind up Reggie. I like some aspects of most of them if I'm honest. Even Tony DeZuniga who was sometimes excellent, sometimes hurried. Compare some of the Peters to some of the Flashes in #176. You can't say Romita, because Romita 'Romita'd' everything he did. At a push, I'd go for Esposito when he was at his best. He did the eyes right. Hunt & Giacoia not far behind. Andru was the star though. Even when his work was badly inked you could still see the genius.
  7. I did Me brother was bang into Kung-Fu at the time so it was a must see. Some great acting in it too - nothing screams that you're trying not to crap yourself louder than fiddling with your tie
  8. I always thought a 'towel-shoulder for cowards' was a bit strong and felt quite sorry for MJ in this scene, despite Peter's final panel explanation. She was terrified. I wanted him to say "Look MJ, I'm Spider-Man. Tell me who it is and I'll go and kick the sht out of them". Or something like that. Best inker? I haven't made my mind up yet. I'll be back when I have.
  9. Look at us, Voord. We're Doctor Who through and through. From a young age it has been part of our lives. We've loved it, followed it and in our various ways have gotten involved. And we hate this current incarnation and production team. There are so many reasons to hate it, but I hate it for one reason above all. It isn't Doctor Who.
  10. I think it's unlikely, alas. I think the world is set on its current course and I can't see anyone wanting - or being allowed - to revert to storytelling that is free from the current tick list of modern production 'requirements'. The pressure to conform to it has put decent storytelling, -script writing and casting in a straightjacket. Once it starts, it's hard to stop.
  11. No one cares. The Chibbers / Whitterer tenure is the 'Sins Past' of Doctor Who. When it's over, we'll all pretend it never happened.
  12. Too young to remember much about the early 70's, alas. I do remember this double bill though, which I saw at the Odeon in Barking in 79: I'd forgotten all about it until I saw the poster on eBay just now. The memory came flooding back - the sheer excitement of a Spidey film. Although the rather odd smile on his face on the poster always troubled me....
  13. It's not the Golden Record Reprint from 1966 as that looks like this: It could have been a pence copy interior though, as all the pence-defining features are on the cover and indicia. So that aspect can never now be proven but given that the interiors were all part of the same print run that doesn't matter now. It's not the Marvel Tales #138 reprint either: So it looks legit to me.
  14. That's an entirely reasonable thing to say, under the circumstances, and one which they could easily discount with one God damn two minute post. Send me a PM Wolvie, if the thought ever occurs to them
  15. It's just after midday in the UK and I managed to post one thing before I got this: Looks like others are having the same problem: And we know that it will all start up again later. This has gone on long enough now, for me. There are no CGC staff that we can talk with about this, or who will give us an update. I don't see the point of speculating all the time as to what is going on if those that own and maintain the site cannot bring themselves to show their faces. A vague behind the scenes "We're looking into it" is not enough for me. The site is unstable and unusable for too many periods each day - alas, the times that I in the UK would like to be posting - and you just can't trust it to be working. I know that our volunteer mods are doing all that they can to get some action - well done them - but there is clearly no resolution in sight. So I'm 'giving up' and won't be logging on anymore until the issue is fixed. I've got plenty of other comic stuff to be getting on with and can do without a daily battle with a website that is supposed to be fun. If the problem gets resolved, and someone wants to send me a PM, please do. I get externals notifications for those, so will see it. In the meantime, have fun everyone. Steve
  16. That would presumably depend on the number of calls of complaint from thwarted bidders. No calls, no re-run, I would suppose.
  17. I didn't know that, thanks. It didn't seem to work for them on this occasion, did it, alphanumerical. Shame they didn't have some ABBA fan magazines to sell in the session. Allow the access to settle down a bit.
  18. And right on cue, the 500 errors begin here. You couldn't make it up.
  19. Enough people posted across threads here indicating they couldn't access the auction, so yes. Logic suggests a massive surge in interest might affect site availability. Can you imagine how many people were logging on globally at that precise point? And AF15 is the first lot, and sold within moments of that start. I've never seen an auction start with the big guns. They're always at the end. They must have considered the possibility of a massive global online viewing surge - why sell the big one within moments of that start?
