  1. Exactly. It makes sense. Communicate. If you don't - consistently - your message is "we don't care" - isn't it?
  2. Call me old fashioned, but if I owned a chat forum that had thousands of loyal members who, perhaps against the odds, had kept it going for 20 years when everyone else had buggered off to Facebore, and whose activities generated millions of global views for my product, I would occasionally pop in and let people know what was going on. Something along the lines of "Hey guys, so sorry about the recent access problems - someone pressed the wrong button...(grimace emoji)" would go a long way I feel, and would make people feel part of a community. It would make them feel that they weren't being ignored or taken for granted. "Hey guys, big Invision update coming next Wednesday, so bear with us as it may be a rocky ride - even with the best planning we never know how things will go, but rest assured we'll be on it if there are any unexpected problems". Easy isn't it. Takes seconds. Ask yourself this - if your forum went down for the best part of two days, would you either: A) Communicate with your members when it was back up and running with suitable apologies and explanations or B) Not Meanwhile, Josh Brolin will sign your comics for a $250 fee. Isn't that just brilliant!? Come on, get submitting!
  3. Both aren't much cop really, to be honest. Ross's is too egg shaped, but has great eyes, the other is a good shape, but the eyes are too big. Same here - even as a kid I can remember registering the drop in quality following Ross's departure. I often say, everything good about Spidey was in those first 185 issues. Great isn't it. Much better than the more regularly used one which (as we pointed out previously) looks like a completely different man
  4. Apart from a glorious spell as a kid when me and my brother were in it together, and quite enthusiastically too, comics have always been a solitary hobby for me. I've never met anyone in adulthood who is genuinely interested in the nuances that thrill me, to the level that they thrill me. I don't make friends easily because I think I am probably as boring to other people as they often are to me (get your jokes in now). What goes on in the head, or, after some consideration, gets written on the page, rarely manifests as eloquently from the gob. At fairs, and in shops, I try to speak to dealers and collectors when I can with enthusiasm for the comics. They often seem to speak back with enthusiasm for themselves however and before I know it I'm making my way back home accompanied only by a handful of Charltons and the Bill Bixby tune. So physically, it's just me, Marwood and the dog. And probably always will be. Online, I've somehow managed to gather a rag tag bag of broadly like minded misfits over the last five years who, for reasons unknown, have been drawn to the dross that I post from outside the circle like moths to a pence thread. So there's that at least. In other news, some dry paint stayed dry yesterday.....
  5. I purchased a comic lot from ebay the other month because it had these three Charlton beauties hiding in it: It was clear the seller wasn't an overly comicy person, but they arrived surprisingly well packaged. This comic was also in the lot, in an old yellowing bag: For a 40 year old comic, it's amazing how bright and clean it looks, given that it likely spent its life in that horrible old yellowing bag in a wardrobe somewhere. There's something very clean, fresh and appealing about those monthless final 20p UKPVs isn't there when they retain that blistering whiteness. This copy, along with quite a few others, replaced the image I previously had in the UKPV evidence files, which was a nice bonus. The whole package was a delight to be honest. Comics - don't you just love them...
  6. Yes, Happy Birthday Mr A. No doubt he's up there now in spirit world drawing something. Or taking photos of it to draw later. It was quite nice that his exit from the title wrapped up that chapter of Peter's life wasn't it. Although I must confess, I don't recall anyone ever demanding that graduation story. And I preferred the original head. Reggie will dig that out to remind us, I'm sure....
  7. I can arrange that! Don't worry about the old thread Hairless - it was ruined when admin inexplicably deleted all the historic laughter likes in an attempt to punish the usual small crowd who were abusing them. On this board, the needs of the many rarely trump the needs of the few. Hopefully some more people will join in here. Still on your romance theme, I thought the original printed contents of this book were quite weird: Nothing screams romance like an appointment with the Fuhrer does it! No original owner lipstick added anywhere you'll note, happily.
  8. Is there an Empire Strikes Back quote anywhere in our future?
  9. Keep digging... Indeed. I had, I think, four examples of one particular DC stamped book in the files recently - all seemingly different images - but all the same book when you zoomed in! Sometimes you see a book in an auction house lot turn up later on eBay too. That's happened to me a few times. I did some posts somewhere about books that have been relisted on eBay for about five years. I wonder sometimes whether the owners have died. There's one Kid Colt book that I swear I'm going to buy one day just to get the damn thing off the screen...
  10. I had a check this morning Rich, to see if I could find any on the list, but drew a blank. Where you see multiples of the same issue unstamped, your gut starts to tell you how unlikely it is that there will be one. But I've learned to resist that feeling as, more often than not, one copy will dutifully appear one day - usually, just after you've announced that it never will. One thing I have found when checking online is that you tend to see the same stock recycled over and over, and that can convince you that a given copy may not exist. Then, you go to a fair, a new dealer is there, with fresh stock, and there one is. I am never surprised anymore by the appearance of a book that has stubbornly refused to show itself for years. So it will be interesting to see how long your list stays as it is. I'll paste a copy into my book, and keep an eye out on my travels.
  11. Could be. We'll have to find a few more examples to see. None out there in the usual places I look. Keep going Rich, this is cool information to gather. Post a missing list maybe, of the current unstamped PVs - we could all look out for them then...
  12. I collected Spidey MJIs for the same reason Captain - I was a completist - but I also loved the feel of them. They have a very nice, firm rigidity to them. And anything that is different has always got my vote. As to value, I used to get them very reasonably until I alerted some fellow collectors to their wonders and then they started outbidding me. I think the number of collectors is likely to be comparably small, but the nature of those collectors means that they will pay what most would consider obscene amounts to fill that hole. I agree - like all variants, once everyone in the interested crowd has a decent copy, new to market copies can sit for a while - especially if they aren't keys. I liked to label mine so they looked lovely like this: Three backing boards, an internal Mylite2, trimmed to size with the label and an outer Mylite2. A solid slab of loveliness. Never sell Captain, no matter what.
  13. Good spot Gary. The 'S' is there on the UKPV when you zoom in on other copies, it's just partially obscured, presumably, by the UK price slug: That happens on a few Spideys too if I recall correctly. Another reason why it would have been nice to snag it - close up inspection
  14. Afternoon There are no Gold Key UK Price Variants for Bugs Bunny of course, but there are some licensed reprints with UK prices out there - here's one example from 1971: The reason for posting is the fact that you can see where the US cover details have been covered over quite clearly on the UK book, which I think is cool. I can't post pictures of the full UK book, as I managed to delete it during the cropping. Pillock. Only a handful of Gold Key Pee Vees to go now by the way. I'll post a picture of all 122 if and when I get there....
  15. Not the best picture in the world, but Tekworld #5 brings us up to 1,320... ...and likely completes the APV set for that title:
