  1. There were two versions of this - one with wording above the MCG banner, and one without:
  2. Now I'm looking at the pictures on my desktop, and can zoom in, you can see that the inner edge of the outer cover spine appears clean, which supports the likelihood of the double cover being genuine: If there was any evidence of glue, tears or damage, then that could indicate that the cover may have been removed from another copy and the book we see here is a construct. As Lazyboy pointed out (I don't think our combined earlier comments were that clear) a true double cover on a squarebound book should always manifest with the outer cover being detached. Accordingly, it's really hard to imagine how such a book would survive (unlike a double cover saddle stitched book with both covers attached at the staples). For it to survive, someone would have had to have taken care of it and retained the two covers. In this instance, I'm concerned by the visible damage to the interior cover in this photo: Logic suggests that any handling wear would hit the outer cover first but it's always hard to judge from photos without having the book in hand. So I think this particular copy is questionable. Genuine or not though, I think the chances of finding others in this format are exceptionally small.
  3. Thanks to everyone who voted. Just a bit of fun really, but I was starting to think it was just me. Usually when we have recurring performance issues you see grumbling here and there and I hadn't seen anyone else comment about it. Nice to know it's not just me. I'm probably just unlucky - if there are problems only once a day, the chap who logs in at that time every day will have a different experience to the chap who always misses it. It's quite zippy this morning though, happily. P.S. Death to the side bar!
  4. That's why I'd have liked to have seen a picture of the inner spine, to see if it was clean or whether it showed evidence of previously having been attached to something.
  5. I seem to get a lot of them mid morning in the UK and wondered if they were doing upgrade stuff 'out of US hours' so to speak. Nice pig 🐖
  6. The pictures give cause for concern don't they. The inner cover appears to be in worse condition than then outer one and the absence of a picture which shows how / if the second cover is even attached is telling.
  7. Go back and buy it tomorrow. An original Spidey story, Andru style, in a massive format. What's not to like Jim!
  8. Copies don't last long over here in the UK. If it's genuinely mint, that sounds quite reasonable to me. The signed by Stan Lee 'second printings' do well too, if you can find one.

  10. I've just added this copy to my list of T&P stamped, pre-UKPV Charltons, which is building up nicely: What a cracking cover that is - really colourful. Love it
  11. That's a very uncommon book actually Frisco in my experience - in fact, it's one of only a handful of 9d copies for which I have yet to see inside re my UKPV T&P indicia work. There is a copy on eBay now, but it's overpriced with colour touch and the seller won't look inside for me. It should be a standard US indicia in the 9d copy (i.e no Thorpe & Porter details)..... ....as per the 10c US edition: So if you have a raw copy, let me know won't you
  12. They're very hard to find now, certainly in good shape. Your JIM #63 is a beauty.
  13. Some lovely copies there Frisco. Very nice. It's nice to see the correct UKPV label too, at least as far as my own definition of 'correct' goes. Some still disagree. I was hoping to tease CGC out of the habit of calling UK and Filipino reprints 'editions' too, but I think that was a bridge too far
  14. FP jumped locations a few times. I can remember when it had proper comics and also buying my first Dr Who fanzine there which set me off contributing artwork. The area of Denmark Street off the Charing Cross Road was a wonderful place back then in the early eighties. I'd walk around the Centre Point building and cut across to Comicana. I wish I could remember the name of the little shop down the alley - looking just now at an old map (it's all been redeveloped now) it might have been along St Giles Square or Denmark Place somewhere but I just can't find anything about it. I can just remember coming out of FP, turning left and it was down a small alley. Maybe the memory is cheating to a degree. I know it's silly and nostalgia driven, but I wish I could just go back one day to that time and do that circuit again. Not necessarily to snap up books that are now worth a mint, but just to feel that feeling again. And of course, look to see if there were any pence Charltons, Archies, Kings and Gold Keys, all of which I would have ignored back in the day. FP is a cold, clean, efficient business now isn't it. Nothing remotely charming about it.
  15. Those were the days. The old Forbidden Planet, the little shop hidden down the alley whose name I can never remember (not the one on your poster), Comic Showcase, Comicana, Gosh. All within a walk of each other. Good record shops too. Oh for a Tardis.... Well I haven't for ages, so I wouldn't worry too much about it
  16. Cheers Steve - it's probably me then - maybe I have to clear the cache or something - when I try I keep getting directed to fill in the top search bar when I click the search button below my title selection: I'll have a muck around...
