  1. Cheers Hepcat! And a very Happy New Year to you from Tom, Sue, Sally and Black Furious Well, not Black Furious as it goes - he actually said you can go and get ed
  2. Harrow Albert, Badds have a lot of nice old pence copies as it goes. But they also have a habit of changing up their prices if I recall correctly. Show a bit of interest and up they go. Maybe I'm being unkind though, and confusing them with someone else. To be clear, I've never been fussed about the financials. The parity I have sought down the years is about equal recognition - the first printing / not a reprint thing. Did I succeed in that? I dunno. CGC is an American thing and we're on the periphery, lets face it. Probably always will be. Hope you're having a nice Christmas
  3. Seasons Greetings from Black Furious Neigh! (Translation: "Happy fing Christmas" )
  4. I can't place it either Reggie, although I know I've seen it before Maybe it's in one of the Marvel Holiday Specials? Anyway, not an Andru, but here's a timely picture... Merry Christmas gang!
  5. That reminds me of that joke where people keep calling the Pope Elvis.
  6. Not at all, lots of people share your view Cat-Man. I hate the side bar myself, even on my desk top. Many of my threads present information which takes account of the pre-change desk top screen width - comparative comic examples, stuff like that - and the compression mucks them up by pushing images onto subsequent lines. It's just annoying really to take the trouble to reduce image sizes so that they fit the screen side by side only for this dumb change to subsequently split them. I'm not sure how long it takes to switch a disliked function off, but hopefully it will be gone soon. Have a great Christmas.
  7. It's not too bad. Of its age and all that. I used to have a full run of 1-150 back in the completist days. And a pence run too. I only read the early ones though, if I'm honest.
  8. That's cool. I had a double NDS insert in a Spidey #96, but I don't think I've ever seen an upside down insert. This might interest you HM - my old list of Amazing Spidey's that had inserts that weren't MJ, NDS and Pizzazz: I always thought it odd that the Bubblicious / Maxwell ad was in both direct and newsstand editions (ASM #245): And I always liked the different, final Pizzazz type:
  9. Although the Marvel pence copies straddle silver and bronze, it's the silver age that has all the excitement, all the quirks, all the nuances. So I moved the thread there, the age where it all started. CG has completely lost its way now anyway and looks more like the WC every day. Its not where I wanted this thread to be anymore.
  10. Hi Cat-Man - you'll find the answers to many of your points, the background and direction of travel regarding the side bar change in the reply I gave to Peter just a few posts up. Our CGC admins did not deliver the change - Invision (the software owners) did. The side bar may work for some of Invision's other client forums, but here it serves little purpose other than to compress that which we are reading. It also messes up much of the formatting that some take care to craft into their posts. Any value to us, in my view, is cosmetic and superfluous. Once you know who the 'top poster' is, the information is redundant until that position changes. So you have to see the same information over and over every time you visit. Dena (our admin) has already stated that our admins are minded to remove the function, and my link to the Invision website shows that it is indeed a feature that they have the power to switch off. Hopefully they will decide to do that or, at least, consult the members to see if most would support that action. All the other changes are cosmetic and we'll likely get used to them as we always have. I'm not a fan of change for changes sake myself. If a function works and can't be improved upon, changing how it looks or moving its location just feels like unnecessary tinkering to me. But that seems to be the way in technology, endless tinkering. Maybe an industry survey somewhere shows that layout change refreshes things, like a new coat of paint. But to me, for example, moving the edit button from it's known, titled, obvious visual location to a hidden location just annoys everyone until they get used to it. But it still annoyed them, so why do it if there is no material gain? Newcomers to the site will have to hunt for the edit button because it is no longer visible. How does that help anybody? I've tried to keep the momentum going with Dena to head off the possibility that the side bar ends up staying put because everyone just gets used to it and - as has happened in the past - there is 'no significant clamour for it to be removed'. No one asked for a like button but it was brought in because it was available, and then left in place because there was 'no significant clamour for it to be removed'. You can decide whether, in retrospect, that was a good idea. Once something is in place for a period of time, it can be difficult to remove it. Anyway, as I type this there is a nice picture of Elvis in his Christmas hat to my right, and you're the top poster here Cat-Man, so all is not lost
  11. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/480229-problem-with-the-board-software-update-yesterday/?do=findComment&comment=11521548
  12. "The Mills and Boon rose, is the rose of romaaaance" I'll just have to face facts Kevin - no one finds any of this funny
  13. JUST MARRIED* Well, how else do I get a roof over my head and rubbish sex for the next twenty years? Our eyes met, Perry's and mine, and it wasn't as it used to be! There was no silent message of love across that span, no unseen caress, as there was when we were first married! Something was gone between us, something vital and necessary.... With that said, he still had that massive cock of his so..... This was what every young couple dream of...My love and I alone on a lovely horse, sorry, island... Sea, sky and sun! Oh, that fing seagull. It's sht all over me trousers again the little fer My Love was so fierce that I wanted to control his every moment... My love for him was driving him from me... "My heart was my betrayer!" "Daphne" "Yes Dave?" "Shut up" "Yes Dave" What else did I have apart from these rotten shoes...? Only my dreams of past romances...! This was my only escape - the wet dream to end all wet dreams. That's right - Frigathon Friday. Get me the Kleenex and the Smilemaker 3000. Now! All of the wonder and joy of true love was theirs... But destiny had a cruel joke to play! "Change of heart" "Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold, from this day forward, in sickness and in health and until death do you part?" "No" "No?" "No. I've had a change of heart" "Well that's that bolloxed then isn't it" No pence copies were harmed in the making of this horseshine* JUST MARRIED* He might be smiling now, but just wait until I've got bingo wings and an arse the size of Deptford!
  14. It is quite weird to hear the word variant bandied about so much now isn't it. Hey, that's a comic word - give it back!
  15. @dena If you didn't already know, the width of our member details to the left of each post appears to have reduced and the number of characters per line has reduced accordingly - see examples below: Pre-Update Post-Update This means that some members titles now get split across two lines - example below for @GreatCaesarsGhost At first I thought the reduced width was to accommodate the new side bar, but as these two post update examples below show, it is compressed whether the side bar is present or not (as you mentioned earlier, the side bar only appears once a thread has reached a certain number of posts): Is it possible to return the width to the previous version, or is this 'skin' hard coded? We have a smaller font and yet less words per data line which feels like a step backwards. Also, I find the new bold white font against the dark grey quite stark and uneasy on the eye - Ken illustrates the point nicely I think: The pre-update font was bigger, yet much less visually aggressive.
  16. Caesar got squashed to make room for the side bar - hopefully we'll see the back of it soon Peter : Nice to see Christmas Elvis back by the way
  17. I don't see a way of doing that either - the "Follow this content" button is missing on my Samsung mobile phone too. I've never used the mobile app to do that though - are you sure it was there in the previous version? This old thread suggests not: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/436216-follow-this-content-option-on-mobile/?tab=comments#comment-10300828 Should be ok now Eric, I had followers blocked temporarily to test something (I saw your comment in the other thread)
  18. Me too. Never really liked UB40 if I'm honest. Now Mirror in the Bathroom though...
