  1. I saw this nice portrait of Frank Zappa in a pub in Whitstable last week and couldn't for the life of me remember who used to have him as their avatar? Anyone remember? Anyway, not that it's relevant in any way, but I had a cracking cheese and pickle sandwich in there.
  2. Yes, not sure why just eight titles were chosen from the scores of titles running at the time. From a TV show perspective, I can understand the cartoons getting the pence treatment as Road Runner, Tom & Jerry, Pink Panther, Tweety, Yosemite and Bugs were all household names and repeated regularly over here. Ditto Start Trek of course. But Boris and Ripley's weren't exactly prominent, to my recollection. We had Lost in Space over here but I don't recall anything to do with Magnus, Turok or Doctor Solar myself that would have warranted a pence version of them. But maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
  3. Nice catch Barbara! I take it the comics are all trimmed to size? Is it by much? I've yet to manage to find one myself.
  4. Good spot Tiffany! It's a cool book isn't it, the no price version. I've seen about five examples since it was first brought to my attention. There are 4 versions of TTA #16 that I am aware of: 9d Pence Copy No Price Copy 10c Short Font Copy 10c Tall Font Copy The book falls into the Jan 61 ~ Apr 61 indicia slot. If you look at the table below, you'll see that all Marvels - cents or pence - which have a confirmed pence copy have a T&P UK indicia: Where there is no pence copy, the US cents indicia has no T&P line, so this is a further way of finalising whether a pence copy is likely to be hiding for any of the unconfirmed titles. I have images of the TTA #16 indicias for both US 10c font types, and the no price type and they all have the T&P indicia. Funnily enough, the only one I have yet to confirm is the 9d pence copy, but it's fairly likely that it will have it (unless it does a JIM #67). More on that here if you're interested: There are some great books hiding around this era, with lots of variations and quirks to look out for. I hope to gather all four TTA#16's at some point: It's something to do isn't it
  5. It's very unusual isn't it. And thought provoking. I wonder if the split x-ray cover scenario features in the story? Does it Jim? @porcupine48
  6. Thank you very much. As long as it's all over by the 31st of October I should win it. Sorry, did I say win it? I meant to say 'crash out'
  7. It could be Pete, yes. Or, given the subject matter of three of the books, an indication that hospitalisation is beckoning...
  8. I used the phrase "Are Newton Rings 'normal and acceptable'?" for question #1 deliberately as that was the widely reported response that CGC were said to be giving out at the time. If you take the notion that two plastics touching produces the prism effect literally, then I can see why you would answer 'yes' to that question. Those people are just agreeing with CGC's stance and have the right to their opinion. I also indicated that members were free to state a different view if they had one that didn't fit the voting categories. Also, there will always be people that respond, shall we say, "against the grain", for a variety of reasons. Maybe I could have phrased the opening question "are excessive Newton Rings....", but then you are into the debate about what is excessive and who determines that - company or customer? The questions overall, I feel, get to the nub of the matter: Are visual distortions acceptable, in any degree, on a product that exists to showcase a visual medium? The response percentages tell their own story. There's nothing more to say about it in my view. The ball is in CGC's court. As I said earlier, if you get your submission back ring free, you'll likely be delighted. They look great don't they! And you may well be in the vast majority. If you don't, you're gutted. If CGC dealt with the latter scenario adequately, and communicated more effectively, maybe these threads wouldn't exist.
  9. Nowhere near angry or shouty enough. Just looks a bit annoyed.
  10. I was building my ASM run quietly under the radar, paying fairly small premiums at most, and then Chuck started his '100x value regardless' pricing thing. Then an ebay seller - The Comic Newsstand? - followed suit and it was game over.
  11. I'd say no in the main, but there is the tiniest hint of Liefeld face in Conan's expression which I think may be the trigger.
  12. Note: Segment percentages are illustrative and not to actual scale
  13. Really scarce these ones Jim, and in amazing condition. I'm really pleased with them
  14. Nice looking lot Shawn. Keep your eyes open for Canadian Price Variants. There might be a few in there and they can carry a premium.
  15. Matt has confirmed that the above was a labelling error and he has flagged it to the grading team so it shouldn't happen again
