  1. While we wait for Sal to hopefully drop by, here is my thinking regarding the 75c priced copies that exist beyond the cover date of July 1984 Obviously, we can say that Canadian 75c price variants exist up to July 1984 because we have examples of them sitting next to 60c priced US issues. For August, September and October, here are the titles Charlton were producing, courtesy of Mike's Comic Newsstand: For August 1984, all six titles have the new 60c / 75c in Canada dual cover pricing. The introduction of dual pricing at this point is itself a strong indicator that the Canadian pricing experiment was over. I haven't found a single copy with a single 75c Canadian price for this month: For September 1984, the first two copies (BA#88 and FA #171) have the standard 60c / 75c in Canada dual cover pricing as you would expect. But the other four copies have a single 75c price (dual with 25p). This to me indicates that Charlton increased the US price at this point and ended the dual Canadian pricing too. Again, I haven't found a single 75c copy for the first two books, or a dual priced copy for the last four. Their versions appear to be the only versions out there: For October 1984, all titles have only 75c (dual 25p) cover prices. This is becuase the US price is now 75c. If there were Canadian copies, they would be priced higher, no? So it looks to me that the end date for CPV's is July 1984, as the 75c copies dated after then are the newly priced US copies. This makes sense to me. Only the provision of a copy dated Augsut onwards, with two separate versions for the same issue, will change my hypothesis. Does anyone have one? All good fun
  2. Morning Charlies Quite a lot of success lately I'm pleased to report - the Charlie coffers have swelled to unprecedented levels of pencedom. I picked up my (third?) copy of Valerie and Mark yesterday at the London Fair. Couldn't leave this copy behind - it's positively glowing! Valerie was my avatar and profile background picture for quite a while and I miss her. She may return one day. One good thing about multiple copies is the differences you find: The new copy has more top, and less bottom than it's predecessor. Get your jokes in now!
  3. And I think Jim will like this one @porcupine48
  4. Same here Robot Man - I 'acquire' them, in the natural course of box diving I wish you'd pop over to my Pence thread once in a while (Brent and the Nurses). Some beautiful Charlies on display there... Anyway, back to acquired IW's. I like the colours on this one
  5. Hello Bat Masterson #6 Purchased yesterday at the London Fair at half the cover price. Couldn't leave that behind. And what a great label, from the previous owner. Commendable. Here he is minus bag: I used to like Gene Barry in The Adventurer with Barry Morse. Barry to Bradley. Music from John Barry. Barry's everywhere on that show. And a helicopter. But I digress. Bat Masterson isn't new to the files, but this one is: I didn't buy that - just took a picture - as it was twenty quid. I'm not made of f****** money. Anyway, a new one. Yay!
  6. Here are two copies of number ten of my current King favourite, Mandrake the Magician - one 10d pence and one 12c cents: Zoom in top right, and what do we see? On the 12c copy, you can see a feint 10d price showing under the CCA badge: On the pence copy, there's a blur of slightly different colouring where the 12c price would have been: I've checked multiple copies and it's the same on all of them. A similar thing occurs on other Kings too. I find that very interesting. Do you?
  7. Great post Reggie! It's great to be reminded of these books isn't it. Look at that word box there: "In fact, he stands alone for several minutes -- then he shakes his head sadly, and swings off into the dawn" Can you imagine that style of narration in a comic today? They may well have been less technically accomplished than their modern successors, but my God these old issues stir the feelings. Simple, and wonderful.
  8. I picked this up at the London Fair yesterday in the half price box. I needed it for the files (image upgrade) but was also taken by the amount of effort the owner put into his labelling! It has no real value of course but isn't it lovely when you see a book that is over 40 years old still looking so fresh and clean. All good fun
  9. Oh that's a brilliant spot Gary - love it! I had a quick file check and couldn't find another example like it. Very quick thinking from the printer there
  10. That's only the second copy I've ever seen Gary. Ridiculously scarce book. Given it's condition, the seller has priced it rather 'aggressively' but it looks like they price all their comics at £35 so perhaps they're not experts! Hit and hope I think these books are great examples of the ultra scarce comic that nobody wants (but you and me). I could find a thousand AF15's before I found another one of these. Still, it's appearance supports my theory that the other copies weren't pencified* - two number 7's now, no number 8 to 11's (it's all wrapped up in the bold cents font scenario you see...) Pencified* A US printed comic book with a single UK price on it. See also 'pencification'
  11. No new Archie pence copies alas, but I did pick this cents copy up at the London Fair yesterday. I wish the pence experiment extended to this date - a pence Robot Cover would be cool wouldn't it
  12. I snagged this for a very reasonable price at the London Comic Fair yesterday
  13. @Metarog - forgive the tag out of the blue - is this thread something you can contribute to?
  14. Cheers Sal Are you able to show me pictures of any post July 84 cover dated 75c copy alongside it's differently priced US version? There are some post July dated single 75c copies out there, but they seem to be the only copies. The transition from 60 to 75c, and the introduction of dual pricing seems to be a bit haphazard which muddies the waters. I want you to be right Sal - more copies is great! Please, show me one
  15. Cheers kimik. I think Zot was by Eclipse though, not Charlton. I'd love to see a 95c Funny Animals though - issue #1 (September 1984) would be eligible if Sal is right.
  16. Here's a nice clean Mandrake reprint from Alan Top of his Class you know, was Alan. Anyway, I'm quite taken with Mandrake lately, having discovered him fairly late on in life. Anyone who hangs out with a chap in a fez has got to have something going for him wouldn't you say? No? Well, I can't say I'm surprised. Over, and out.
  17. Looks like IW are about as popular as Charlton @Robot Man I tried....
  18. Not sure if it's still the case, but you used to be able to get an idea by calling up all sold items for the same item, placing them in order of value, and then seeing where they sit. So if an item at $100 BIN sold for $50 on an offer it would appear below, say, an item that sold for $60 and above one at $40. Not exact of course, and dependent on multiple sales, but if that still works it can give a good indication. I'll try it tonight and see. OK, here's an example of where you might be able to get some idea of the final offer price. Here are four ASM 129 sales with 'highest price' selected. The four prices are: $1,499 $1,774.75 $1,500 $1,425 The strike-through indicates an offer has been accepted lower than the displayed original BIN amount. So we know that the $1,774.75 offer price must be lower than $1,499 as it is below it in the order, and higher than $1,425 which it is above in the order: Not perfect, but it can give you a clue if there are enough examples. It might help someone reading this

  20. When people pay me for an ebay sale I get a 'Notification of an Instant Payment Received' email from Paypal confirming their payment. If you go to reply to that email, their email address shows, not Paypal's. I tried it just now.
  21. One more. Young King Cole! No relation to Nat. Or Old.
