  1. Morning Since I stated that this thread would dry up as there was 'nothing new to find / say', I've done nothing but find new things to say. Life's like that isn't it. Here's my latest pence acquisition, Journey into Mystery #60, 9d printed copy: Nice isn't it. I purchased it because the ebay listing photos showed a tiny smidgen of the indicia page and the alarm bells rang. Here is the indicia page: Looking closely, it's not like the other three types of indicia that I outlined in my earlier research posts. It's unique for three reasons: It has the big bold T&P writing, and the original US indicia details (unlike all the others produced between May 1960 and December 1960 which only have the big bold T&P writing) It's the only Marvel book to have this type of indicia It's the only September 1960 Marvel book to have this type of indicia - a summary of the others: Gunsmoke Western #60 (10c L Miller indicia) Kid Colt Outlaw #92 (No pence copy believed to exist due to the 'bold cents font scenario' outlined earlier in this thread) Love Romances #89 (No pence copy believed to exist due to the 'bold cents font scenario' outlined earlier in this thread) Millie The Model #98 (No pence copy believed to exist due to the 'bold cents font scenario' outlined earlier in this thread) Tales to Astonish / Tales of Suspense #11 (No pence copies believed to exist due to the font / gap scenarios outlined earlier in this thread) Teen-Age Romance #79 (No pence copy believed to exist due to the 'bold cents font scenario' outlined earlier in this thread) It has 'Thorpe' spelled incorrectly Sorry, four reasons of uniqueness (no Count this time, or Spanish Inquisition jokes) So this issue is unique It means I have to update my summary chart and here's the first draft of it: We now have five types of variant pence indicias - one Miller and four T&Ps. All good fun, if you like that kind of thing

  3. I think the latter. Broadchurch was a very good show, showing that he has talent as a writer and creator. But it was markedly different in length, subject matter, tone and setting. I think Chibnall is just the wrong fit for the show. For all his faults, Moffat understood it inside out and had a flair for intelligent writing. Chris seems to have written the season based on only knowing three things; the title, the Tardis and the need for companions. And the short one hour story slot clearly doesn't suit his style. He recruited Jodie of course, having worked with her on Broadchurch. She was likely a fun person to work with and, based on his seemingly limited appreciation of the Doctor's character, he took her off screen bubbliness (she was a misery in Broadchurch) as being enough to portray the Doctor. I'm sure it was all done, and is all done, in good faith. It just doesn't, in my opinion, work on any level. Others disagree of course so it will likely continue for a while yet. We have Daleks in the NY episode I hear, so that will be intriguing, but I've mentally parked the show now, and will wait for this current team to move on. With a bit of luck, I'll be around to see it return to itself in reinvigorated, knowledgeable hands.
  4. Well done Mikey! I was the under bidder. I already have a copy but mine doesn't have the 6d cover stamp so I thought I'd have a go. It's a great book with or without the Miller indicia
  5. Sorry KobaltDog, you're right. It's just that the only person I ever knew called Gage had it as a surname. Oliver his name was, middle name Owen, a keen model railway enthusiast. I knew him from school but can't for the life of me remember his nickname Anyway, hope you find your one one day.
  6. Aw, thanks so much for the kind words Mickley, and for posting this book - it's only our second April dated 15cv. What a great find. If you collect these, well done - love and cherish it. If you don't, drop me a PM if you would like to see it find a home in England with five other similarly priced friends!
  7. Going back to the Norwegian Wood episode . . . actually, there was an underlying social message there about CHILD ABUSE (i.e. . . .Don't abandon your young daughter in a boarded-up house with scary background tapes playing to terrify her into staying indoors while you go swanning-off into another dimension to have meet-ups with your dear departed wife) . . . I had to think hard what you were talking about there Voord because I had forgotten that the episode even existed. And for once, I don't think I can blame my generally leaky memory for that..
  8. eBay initially did take a % on the postage, but that was years ago. They said it was changed because a few sellers were avoiding the selling fees by manipulating postage fees. For example if someone sold a $90 book with $10 postage, eBay would get $9. People were basically reversing that selling that same book for say $30 and charging $70 postage and eBay got only $3. That may be an extreme example, but it was happening so eBay started taking their % on postage. I see. We all suffer due to a few manipulating the process - usual drill! Here's a questionable design aspect. I received a comic today in a flimsy ebay marked envelope. It was a miracle it wasn't destroyed - just the comic loose in a lightweight bubble envelope with no padding or card support. When I go to give feedback, and plan on leaving fewer stars under the postage element, I'm not offered the option! So presumably, 'ebay packaging' is guaranteed somehow and can't be questioned? It says "The seller received automatic 5-star ratings for other aspects of this transaction" So a seller can charge full postage prices, use sub-standard materials, and because they have the ebay label on them they're fine and I can't rate them! Barmy...
  9. It's a pretty big place, Texas. : P ; ) But it's a pretty rare name. What are the chances there'd be two Gage run comic shops in Texas? I've never even heard of it. Must be a yooessavay thing
  10. Never a fan of Showaddywaddy, Kermit is hoping for Rocky Sharpe and The Replays.
  11. Just wait for the SleepWalker film to come out...
  12. Oh, and I forgot to add that as a researcher, it's an invaluable resource.
  13. Got ya. Joking aside, ebay's positives far outweigh their negatives. I wouldn't have 90% of my collection without it. The fact that I can locate that obscure book, or myself sell a book to a worldwide audience without leaving my house is nothing short of fabulous. Do they tinker and annoy with their policy changes? Yes and thrice yes. Are some of the users certifiably insane? Absolutely. Would I be without it? Not in a million years. Also, it's a one stop price guide, if you know what you're doing. All that for 14% or so when you sell. It's a bargain really, warts and all.
