  1. J C Penney second printing? Right J C Penney second printing? Right J C Penney second printings slabbed as first printings? Wrong
  2. Lovely, thanks Here's the pence one - spot the difference!
  3. It's never ending! I've found another type that isn't any of the above! Back to the drawing board, again.... I don't know. Never count your pence chickens before they've roosted their indicia variations. I've always said it. Belt and braces coming up soon....
  4. Niiiice! What does your indicia look like KirbyJack? 'Regular' US or L Miller?
  5. I know it's not the done thing, so sorry in advance, but I used to be a member of the DD#1 club. I sold this graded one long ago, having bought it as a Spidey completist (an expensive purchase just for that single cover image!). I wonder what happened to it? As with a lot of books, I wish I'd kept it now. Oh well, maybe one day...
  6. Generally speaking, in those early days it seemed like nobody but Ditko could get Spider-Man right.
  7. Is it me or has he got six fingers? No interest in King or the Phantom's six fingers I see. Shame. We're stuck on 18 of a possible 24. Popeye seems reluctant to show his hand, if he exists. I haven't found a UK title that published Popeye around the same time, so it seems odd if he wasn't picked up given that all the other titles King were producing for this 4 month period were. Time will tell. Here's another big Mandrake while we wait. The small one didn't seem to get anyone's attention Eye eye!
  8. Here is an updated 'key pence dates' list, which I posted long ago at the start of this thread. As well as a few changes, I've added in the when the regional UK indicias started / stopped and also the same for the cover months: When pence variants first appeared they had two differences to their US counterparts - cover price and a regional / UK indicia. They actually started with cover months - here's an early example, Strange Tales #75 from June 1960: For issues indicia dated April/May 1961, the cover month was removed, we are told to accommodate the time it took to ship the comics to the UK. Here's Tales to Astonish #19 from May 1961, to illustrate the missing cover month: From Aug/Sep 1965, after a short break in pence copies, the cover month returned along with an increased price - 9d to 10d. Here's Tales of Suspense #69 from September 1965 to illustrate: It's handy to know these things given the fact that unscrupulous people are seemingly quite prepared to try to pass off pence copies as cents copies by removing the cover prices (see my recent CGC graded ASM #1 example). If you know what to look for, you can have up to three differences to help you in such scenarios (price, date and indicia) depending on the date of the issue. All good fun
  9. Afternoon Here's a list of the first 20 confirmed Marvel pence priced variants which I put together a while ago whilst investigating indicias. They go in alpha order by title where there are multiples in the same month of course - GW#58 and JIM #58 are joint first etc I have a few myself happily, and may go for the full set in the new year. It's something to do isn't it
  10. That's a good looking copy. If you get time, post a shot of the indicia page would you jayhawker? I'd like to see the inside of a cents copy
  11. Let's hope more turn up. I haven't seen any of the animated ones yet. So many things I used to love I've let slide. I sometimes wish I could regenerate. New lease of life and all that. Knowing my luck I'd regenerate into myself...
  12. Great contest and thread Dr X / Dude. Full marks for fun, generosity and effort. You certainly livened the place up a bit. Well done
  13. They'd go well with toad in the hole I bet. Do you think they're actually fish bums, or particularly nasty fish liz? Maybe the fish who get out of hand in fish society are punished this way. Death by canning Barry the Carp was a right a**hole. Got canned in the end. Or is it his end in a can

  15. You won't be seeing him any time soon. The fish have got him.
  16. Anyway, that's all I've got to say about fish tonight. Carry on.
  17. Look at him. Doesn't stand a chance. The fish always win.
  18. I don't know my peanuts, or if this is even "Linus" but rest assured we have indited the fish and cleared Linus and the dancers of ALL CHARGES!!! The fish'll get off, with their big shot fish lawyers, you mark my words.
