  1. I think it's me who has the score of one Yozza, as I got this response from Mike: Again....
  2. For as much as it pleases the wider participants of this, the 'winter edition' grading contest, run most ably by the former board member 'comicdonna', lower case c, who, incidentally, now oversees this, the 'CGC Comic Forum' under the new guise of 'CGC Mike' - Mike, note, not Michael - that would be too stuffy and business like - following his change of career last year from lumberjack to administrator of justice and control on a comic chat board - an odd choice of career change, when one stops to think about it, but, each to their own and, as the saying goes, a "change is as good as a rest" - I thought it best to follow the long standing board contest tradition - namely, the statement to the wider group that one's grades are 'in' - by doing in fact, just that, and stating through the medium of this 'post', as which they are commonly referred in online parlance, that, after long and careful consideration of the images provided by lower case comicdonna, but in his aforementioned new guise of 'CGC Mike' - and with all due consideration to my quite frankly lousy positions on the final leaderboards of previous contests, my opening grades can now be considered by the common considered majority to be, in fact, 'in'.
  3. That's an interesting printing effect, given that the issue features the Living Brain...
  4. Looks like a production error to me. Velly cool. I had an idea he'd end up as your Avatar

  6. No rush Reggie. Spidey's still giving Steggers (and Liz) a right good going over We've got a WOK! on this one
  7. I've seen plenty of books with star stamps but no insert over the years as it goes. I remember buying (without checking) an ASM #179 by spotting the edge line at a fair years back and assuming it was a MJI copy. Turns out it was a Pizzazz insert though. ASM #179 had a different cardstock one to the regular blue and red ones in the previous three issues. I stopped actively buying Spidey MJIs long ago though so never got to put @trademarkcomics's staple discovery to the test. That said, here's an issue #157 that I picked up recently with a MJI compared to a 30cv that I used to own: Have I done that mock up already? Feels familiar Anyway, the MJI copy has a higher bottom staple placement, in line with TM's discovery. It could've been very handy with online sales back in the day, knowing that.
  8. Poor Steggy. A BROK and a THRAK! all in the same afternoon....
  9. Sorry Yozza, but I'm going to have to reprice that one Inflation, you see....
  10. Nice. Post them in the discussion thread, Paq: https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/411880-marvel-uk-price-variants/ No one reads the journals.
  11. I've terrorised the forum with seven UKPV threads Paq, one for each of the known post-1959 publishers. The journal summaries are here, with links to the relevant discussion threads within them: https://boards.cgccomics.com/blogs/blog/628-john-morlars-pence-palace-of-doom-and-other-comic-miscellany/ I'll be keeping an eye open to see which one you post in....
  12. It's funny how as soon as you know it's there, you can suddenly see it! We always get there in the end
  13. They exist between the cover dates Oct 1999 to Feb 2000 Paq, with 32 confirmed price variants (last time I checked): https://boards.cgccomics.com/blogs/entry/4922-marvel-1999-~-2000-us-newsstand-price-variants/
  14. https://www.comics.org/issue/365632/cover/4/ Mexico!
  15. Hard to ascertain anything from the back cover (AUS Superman #109 embedded, Action Comics #245 to the right):
  16. You mentioned the 6d priced issue #109: I posted the one shilling priced #141: Zooming in, I think the issue in the photo could be either of these two books. I can see the faint outline of the "Shrinking Superman" wording when I blow the image up: In my experience, bad resolution photos can make it seem that things on the cover are missing. I think it's possible that the price doesn't show, but is there. Ditto the circular logo above the 'S' of the title. Or I could be talking complete rubbish and there's another version out there waiting to be discovered....
  17. Could it be this one? https://www.comics.org/issue/578592/cover/4/
  18. Afternoon While Reggie is out of town taking pictures of old Spidey haunts, I thought I'd fill the void with some old guff about two of my favourite Spidey Andru issues - Amazing Spider-Man #136 and 137. Here's my old copies in case you'd forgotten what they look like: I found my two UK weekly reprints the other day while sorting through some stuff, which I bought at the London Fair the other year (having previously owned as a kid) because ASM #137 has a special connection for me (which regular readers of this thread will understand). Here they are: How cool are they, eh? Whoever came up with the 'longways' format as we used to call it (landscape hadn't been invented then) was undoubtedly a genius and these comics give me a warm glow of nostalgia every time I see them. As we have seen before in the thread, the longways format would mean you would often get redrawn, exapnded splash pages: Mega cool, even in black and white. Not a bad effort, but lacking the Andru facial flair I think. But at least we get a number plate in this one: Here's why #137 is a favourite..... Having two pages per page was surprisingly enjoyable, even in their compressed, harder to read states. And look at that for a back cover: And in colour too (with a u) We have a Spider-critical letter here from a bloke in Dagenham. That's amazing really, as Dagenham was the next town along from Barking, where I grew up reading these comics: Ian Grey-Starling? That's got to be a made up name, surely? Dave Grey-Starling, I reckon (Dagenham Dave, Dagenham Dave....) Another amazing discovery within is the advert for what we knew as 'Little Big-Man' but what, for some reason, this ad calls 'Norvic Man': You can just about make him out here on the left, with my old friends The Baz Gang: Here he is getting his head kicked in in the first issue of 'Zaus' Chronicles', which I drew as a kid: Those were the days... To close, the longways weeklies used to have centre spread posters in them. Me and my brother would get really excited to see if there was one in each new issue by a character we liked. When you got one like this, you literally shit yourself with glee: Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that Andru-flavoured interlude. Reggie'll be back soon, I'm sure. See ya
