I agree with Sensei Ryan's comments here.  If the book was never officially published by Image/Skybound, and only a few rare unreleased copies were shipped, then it should not be a requirement for this set.   Jeez, it's going to be hard enough for the regular collector to hunt down the 100+ store variants without requiring unreleased versions too.

I agree too with Ryan and Blade. If it was not officially produced (and it wasn't - "It was never OK'd to print" - see below the official comment from Showcase), it should not be added to the official set. It reminds me of the fake "Museum Edition" bouncing around a while back. Theft should never be rewarded.

    From the Showcase Facebook site:

"Attention everyone interested in the elusive Showcase Comics Walking Dead Variant:

The eBay seller is not lying. This book is incredibly rare because it’s not supposed to exist. When we made our order for the variant we were super excited to do another store exclusive, but did not like the way the proof looked when it was emailed to us, so we cancelled the order before it went to print. Someone decided to run off a few copies I guess and they were leaked from the printer. We did not get ANY copies of this issue. It was never OK’d to go to print.

The eBay seller is in no way affiliated with the store, we had zero knowledge that this book existed till Tuesday when we were contacted out of the blue by someone looking for a copy, then someone else, another someone else, and add another dozen and a half people to that in 2 days calling and looking for it, and you can see what we are dealing with right now.

We have been in contact with Image regarding this issue and will keep you all posted."

Thanks so much for that Link!!!  Here are some really interesting stats (at least to a data geek like me) from October, 2018 Sales, the month when TWD Day hit:

Walking Dead Issue 184: 60,814 (have not looked to see how this has trended.  Will likely add that in a future thread)

Walking Dead Issue 1 15th Ann (I assume Adlard plus the store variants): 106,090, #2 most for the month of all comics and just 1,500 units shy of the top.  For a Reprint!!!

    Walking Dead Issue 19 15th Ann: 30,864  So 308 1:100 issues

    Walking Dead Issue 100 15th Ann: 20,914.   So 209 1:100 issues

    Walking Dead Issue 108 15th Ann: 16,662  So 166 1:100 issues

    Walking Dead Issue 48 15th Ann: 16,637  So 166 1:100 issues

    Walking Dead Issue 98 15th Ann: 13,530  So 135 1:100 issues

Cool, I have been looking for this info!!!!

You're not the only geek (!). I like data like this (especially if I believe it), and I hope you'll continue to research and share it.

I believe the sales numbers here - I would expect #1, #19, #100 to sell above the others. How did #27 fare? It doesn't surprise me that #108 (Exeziel and Shiva) sold fewer. My observation is that the five (so called) 1:100s from the 15th Anniversary Blind Bags seem VERY rare indeed. If there really were 135-308 produced, they are are hardly showing up on the well-known auctions at all. We'll see....

Thank you for sharing. Top man!

    There he is!

And regarding the lack of posting to this thread. I'm sure some of the old timers would agree, this thread never rebounded after the change over to the new CGC Forums a few years ago. The drop off after the change over was sudden and severe.

So far as I can see, this thread now has just 25 followers. Very few of these appear active...

As for me, I love the comics and I love the show. Can't wait for the return of the season 9 mid-season premiere next weekend. And I'm hoping to visit the Senoia TWD sets in May/June 2019.

Walking Dead 15th Anniversary Edition 1

    Comiczone Edition

I have seen prices on the AF15 5.0 stay really static for about 18 months now.  Mine did really well when sold  but it hasn't moved up and it has moved down over that time. Do I think it's a bad investment, No. Has Mastercard done far better in that time, Yes.

Buy what you love. When I sold my collection to Bob Storms, I kept my JIM and Thors and I'm glad I did. Not because I think they'll go up but rather because they take me back to being young and it's a nice place to go.  Unlike many, I bought mine all off the newsstands.

If you do this just because you want profit, you're in the wrong biz in my opinion. Loving the essential stupidity of comic books should be blessed as a part of being human, screw Bill Maher. I loved the color, the storyline, the month by month story line and Stan's  takes in the mailbox every month.. As an old man, I care about leaving stuff to my kids as a headstart in life. The comics have been part of that story. So have the stocks. Be glad you can even entertain buying comics as an investment. Most of the people in Africa own no more than the clothes on their backs.

Wise words, Glassman10. Buy what you love = wise words.

You have added all the International editions.  Yet that Registry only has US published books.  This seems inconsistent to me.  If it was a Global Registry (and maybe one should be created?), you would have issues in other languages.  Or maybe add only the ones in English language.   I’m not trying to complete this set but I don’t see how non-US versions make sense.

Not quite. I only added / corrected the international listings already present on the Registry. They are all in English language, and all of these were published in the US. I obtained my copies from the US, and I imagine that anyone else could do likewise if they wished to.

TWD comics 85 and 106 in the set have English language, US published, British LCS editions.

As an aside, CGC already has separate sets listed of Argentinian and Serbian sets of The Walking Dead books on the Registry.

As the "add" thread is closed, I wrote to Mollie today asking for the Walking Dead Day Special #nn to be added.

    Also missing is 98E, 100E and 108E.

Something seems to have gone wrong with the width of the photo-eye/text column. Comics are now taking two lines instead of one (look and you'll see what I mean). I asked Mollie to look at that for us.

Finally, I asked her to move the Finch variants (Blind Bag #1) so that they appear below the Zombie Planet Edition / above the Blind Bag #2s. Logical to keep them all together methinks.

    Happy weekend everyone!

    Cheers, Stephen

I have reviewed the "Store" Edition list (of the 15th Anniversary editions) on our Registry today. There are several revisions to be made (in my opinion / advice), and I have written to Mollie as follows:

Please add these 20 comics (all 15th Anniversary Edition 1s):

1st Edition Edition (yes, two x ‘Edition’ – ‘1st Edition’ is its name)

    Another Dimension Comics Edition

    Collector Zone Edition

    Comic Traders Edition

    Comiczone Edition

    Enjoy Comics Edition

    Fantasy Realm Edition

    Giant Robot Edition

    Little Shop of Heroes Edition

Limited Edition Edition (yes, two x ‘Edition’ – ‘Limited Edition’ is its name)

    Mad Ox Edition

    Newbury Comics Edition

    Redd Skull Comics Edition

    Rogues Gallery Comics Edition

Showcase Comic Books and Collectibles Edition

    The Amazing Comic-Fever Edition

    The Comic Hunter Edition

    The Core Edition

    World’s End Edition

XO4Y Rostov-on-Don Edition (a Russian edition - the ‘XO4Y’ name is what is shown on the cover)

Please remove these 3 (reason as noted):

Bring Your Own Books Edition (it was not produced - confirmed by Ryan Phillips at the BYOB store)

Legends Comics & Games Fresno Edition (the Legends & Games Edition above it in the list is the only one – duplication)

Midtown Comics Online Edition (the Midtown Comics Edition above it in the list is the only one – duplication)

Please make the following 4 corrections:

BuyMeComics.com Edition should be named BuyMeToys.com Edition

Comicaze Comics Books and More Edition should be ComicKaze Edition

Infinite Mushroom Comic & Game Shop Edition should be The Infinite Mushroom Edition

Laughing Ogre Comics Edition should be The Laughing Ogre Edition

All-in-all, I believe there are 151 store editions, plus the generic Retailer Edition = 152.

The 15th Anniversary Buildout is complete.    It appears CGC has left all of the foreign store variants out of the Complete with Variants registry, which makes sense.    I counted 200 adds, but did not see TWD Day Free Comic in there.   Dang, CGC is going to make big $$$ from anyone working to complete that set.

As the "add" thread is closed, I wrote to Mollie today asking for the Walking Dead Day Special #nn to be added.

In some sense it is ridiculous, but I suppose they are giving fans A LOT of options. I wonder how many people read/collect the comics as fans of the show, but don't buy any other titles?

I only really collect TWD. I do have a few Amazing Spider-man books and others, but I picked those up along the way rather than actually collected them. I do like books from October 1965, my birth month/year.

Looks like Mollie has been busy adding all these 15th Anniversary issues to the Walking Dead Complete with Variants set.  Looks like all the individual store variants of #1 are there 136 of them!   When you add in the 65 blind bag books, it looks like this set is going to go from ~425 to 600 books.   Anyone bold enough to try and get 9.8 Signature Series for all 201 of these variants?   Good lord, that is one crazy amount of books added in a single day event.

Mollie has not added the all yet. There are 157 store variants, the generic Retailer variant, the Walking Dead Day Special (Two Day Special) and the x65 Bling Bag Books. The complete set size will increase by 224 books...

Comics in their 15th year of publication, TV show in its 9th season, comic conventions all over the world, theme park rides and attractions, movies on the way featuring original "Rick", trading cards and other memorabilia. This show and particularly its spin-offs could run forever. Anyone who likes any part of the WD story/universe could easily become a buyer of the early comic books. And so few were printed. Buy, buy, buy!

*NOTE* - If possible, regarding the 15th Anniversary Editions, I think the 4-5 unique versions of each book should be valued differently, with the color being lowest, color virgin a little higher, sketch higher than the previous two, sketch virgin highest and the 1:100 editions even higher.  I don't have a suggestion on point values but would be happy to make one if necessary (I just think since they all were available at different ratios they should be worth different point values).

*NOTE 2* - Can I make a request for aesthetic purposes?  Could you consider putting the 15th Anniversary Editions somewhere near or at the very bottom of the set as opposed to underneath each normal issue slot?  Since these are reprints more than variants I feel they should go down at the bottom similar to where all the Wizard World reprints are placed (if that makes sense).  I think it would just look better that way. :)

    Thank you!

    Ryan

100% support adding these as proposed.

These variants are showing as Cover A, Cover B, Cover C, Cover D on the actual slab labels (A = Colour, B= Colour Virgin, C = Sketch, D = Sketch Virgin).

  13. I was looking at the registry today, and noticed that of the (I read somewhere) 7266 printed/released copies of The Walking Dead #1 from 2003, over 40% (2958) have been graded by CGC. As a new(ish) comic collector, that seems a pretty huge proportion to me given the time between the release and the TV show. Are there any other comics where so many (in percent) have been graded?
