  1. I have imported 00's of comics shipped from the US, including (for example) The Walking Dead which probably falls into the "horror" category. Not once have a had a problem, until this week a seller has contacted me to tell me that "Horror comics are banned in the UK". He discover this when he tried to ship me a comic I had purchased.

We have comic shops, Comic Cons, horror movies and a Walking Dead attraction at one of major theme parks.

I believe it harks back to an old day and has yet to be repealed. It would never be enforced...

  2. Introduction

In April 2017, Image Comics celebrated its 25th Anniversary. To commemorate its birthday, a limited edition of 1992 Blind Boxes were produced containing a randomly selected collection of 25 polybagged Image comics. The comics included in these boxes comprised six different, limited edition, cover variants of the 17 new-for-2017 series - 102 in total. The 103rd (and final) variant was the Here's Negan Preview Edition, which was limited to just 500 copies.  Of these 500, just 25 had an additional hand-sketched over-cover (which sometimes spills over to the back cover - see photographs) by Charlie Adlard. This is the rarest of all The Walking Dead comics.

As of 11/12/2020 [dd/mm/yyyy], just nine (9) of these had been graded by CGC - 8 @9.8 and 1 @8.5 (7 Qualified and 2 Restored). There are no Universal or Signature series because none of the sketches were verified as required by CGC. There are also some blank covers which appear to have "escaped" into circulation. CGC will NOT grade these.

This thread contains photographs and details of the known covers from this rare and tiny family. So far (as at 11/12/2020), we have located a total of 12/25 (plus a blank one):

    • Character Rick Grimes (raw)
    • Character Michonne (raw)
    • Character Andrea: CGC #1238584001 (also pictured raw)
    • Nine different zombies: the five CGC graded ones we have found are #1238584001, 1246666011, 1297002001, 1586358001 (signed by RK and with a Cliff Rathburn sketch on back cover) and 2105850016
    • A blank cover (raw)

Please feel free to add any additional ones. Together, can we capture the full 25?

    More about the comic:

The comic contains parts 1-8 of the Negan 'back story' from the Image + series of 16 comics. Parts 9-16 have never been released as a comic. The Here's Negan story is a stand-alone volume related to Image Comics' The Walking Dead, featuring the backstory of Negan. The story was initially separated and released into chapters consisting of four pages each, published monthly from 27/4/2016 within the Image + series. The completed version was planned to contain a total of 48 pages to play out over the course of a year. On 7/12/2016, in the Letter Hacks of TWD issue 161, it was announced that Here's Negan would be extended to a total of 16 issues. A hardcover version containing all sixteen chapters was released (in several variant covers) on 4/10/2017 to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the comic series

Story summary (for the 8 parts in this comic):

    Chapter 1
Negan is in his garage where he beats a young boy at a game of ping-pong. Gloating over his victory, he challenges the boy's friends as they stand in shock. The defeated teen quickly runs away, humiliated as the others chase after him, apologizing for him being 'kind of a '. Negan sits back into his recliner expecting consequences when his wife walks in.

The woman approaches Negan and berates him for cussing out the teens; their parents having just called her. She explains that he is seen as a role model and needs to act better or else he'll be fired from the school where he works as a coach.

Negan explains he only cussed out one of them and that he was just kidding, he elaborates that he's just trying to be the cool teacher and that they won't respect him if he acts like he has a 'stick up his butt'. He points out that she should hear some of the stuff that they say. The woman tries to rebuttal this, but suddenly collapses to the pavement, Negan rushes to her side.

    Chapter 2
Negan hugs his wife on the floor and makes sure she is okay. A man walks up and Negan yells at him to call 9-1-1. Later at a hospital, a doctor arrives to deliver horrible news, to Negan and his wife. Later, while in the bed with another woman, Negan becomes distraught. When his lover asks what's wrong, Negan reveals his wife has been diagnosed with cancer.

    Chapter 3
After being told by Negan that his wife has cancer, Negan's mistress quickly becomes angry at him, understanding that Negan told her this to make her feel guilty, and ends the relationship. Later, Negan reveals to his wife that he ended his extra marital affair. Negan's wife quickly becomes angry and while Negan explains that he ended his affair because he only loves her, she expresses distress over the fact Negan chose to stay with her, "the sick one", over a perfectly healthy woman. Time passes, and the wife's state quickly worsens. Negan is then seen at a hospital bed, his wife now (presumably) living with the help of machines. As Negan is confessing his love and regrets to his wife, an alarmed nurse comes in and exclaims that the hospital has been evacuated, the area isn't safe and he must come with him. After refusing to leave with the nurse, because his wife cannot leave in her condition, Negan is told to save himself. He then looks at the window and is dumbfounded to see the chaos below him, as a car burns and a doctor flees from the dead. The apocalypse has started.

    Chapter 4
Negan continues to watch the outbreak unfold from the window of the hospital, and realizes that there's something wrong with the "people" on the street. He hears a sound and turns to the door to see a young man running past, and is instructed to run as well. He quickly shuts the door and blocks it with a cabinet. Negan then tells his unconscious wife that it's better that she's sleeping through the strange events unfolding and that everything should be normal once she wakes up, right before breaking down. He then hears a loud sound coming from the streets, prompting him to look down the window once more, only to see the situation has gravely worsened, with a larger number of walkers destroying a car, and bodies scattered all around. He then hears a sound behind of him, made by none other than his wife, who had died, and is now turned. She falls from her bed, and Negan then calls her by her name: Lucille.

    Chapter 5
Negan rushes up to Lucille to check on her till she looks up. Her eyes are glazed over, her nose broken from the fall. She reaches out and growls at him causing him to fall back in shock. After a moment of disbelief, he tries to talk her back but to no avail. Teary eyed- he plants a kiss on her forehead as her weak body lays flat on the floor. He walks away and leaves the room to find a survivor fending off an attack by two walkers. The survivor calls out for help as Negan watches.

    Chapter 6
The walkers grab the boy as Negan rushes in to help. He fends off the two infected with a fire extinguisher and is horrified at having to kill them. The boy thanks a shocked Negan for saving his life and offers him help. Negan asks the boy if he could put down Lucille for him and the boy agrees. After putting Lucille down, the boy returns and the two begin to leave the hospital.

    Chapter 7
Negan and the boy leave the hospital, and the boy says he needs to get home. Negan stops the boy and, argues that his house is probably too far to go on foot and offers him a ride home. As they make their way to the parking lot, they begin to bond, with the boy being quick to notice Negan's rude behavior. Negan says that he "traded in nice for funny a long time ago". He then goes on to explain to the boy that life is just a constant hunt for sex right before he stops himself. He asks the boy his age and says that his thirteen. The boy then asks if Negan's fine, because of his wife dying minutes before, and his weird behavior in light of that event. Negan reluctantly says he is. Arriving in the parking lot, Negan starts giving life advice to the kid, saying that is best for him if he waits to lose virginity using Moby as an analogy. The analogy makes the boy smile, and he talks about a girl he likes and how he thinks that if he could protect her from the events unfolding, she'll like him. The conversation is cut short by a walker that emerges suddenly and kills the boy. Negan watches angrily.

    Chapter 8
After the boy's death, Negan drives home. He is seen boarding up windows, and alone on the road afterwards. Time passes and a bearded Negan is seen stealing gas from a group of men. After clumsily threatening to beat them down, Negan offers to join them and use a car that he found with the keys still in it but with no gas. Negan notices a baseball bat that belongs to one of the men and remarks that it is nice. Afterwards, Negan and the men walk away from the car, having discovered that lack of gas wasn't the car's only problem, and Negan defends himself, saying that he knows " all" about cars, and he comitted an honest mistake. Time passes and Negan is seen getting along with the group he found, bragging about walker kills and discovering places with beds for them to sleep. However, Negan lies about his past, and says that he didn't lose anyone. At a fireplace, Negan is crudely talking about how he doesn't need overcompensation, believing his to be the mightiest. He is completely clueless about the herd of walkers closing in on him and his group.

Very much lowers the value unless the signature is unbelievably rare

or there are no non- personalized sigs available

In the whole world of autographed items (comics, books, photographs, anything else), "flat signed" (as they are called) signatures are usually more valuable than dedicated ones. "To David.." always lowers the value (because it is only really attractive to people called David, unless - as revert has said - it is an unbelievably rare signature / collectors will take anything).

In my experience, a non-personalised addition (a sketch, a few relevant words, even the date) are welcomed. e.g. A Stan Lee signature + "Excelsior!" is attractive and usually attracts a premium.

The only point I would add is that I personally like "To Stephen" on SOME of my signatures. I usually have no intention to sell the item, and I love being reminded of the special day I met whoever.

In the end, it's up to you.

    Best wishes

The Last Wine variant should definitely be added to the Walking Dead set (i have one about to grade)-  it is a number 1 reprint- and apparently 1000 were printed-  which is more than any of the 15th ann books or many of the comic con variants which are ALL in the set-  i dont think print count should stop a book from being entered into a set-  the Hyundai variant is extremely rare but it is in the set- and it is obtainable-  i have seen more Wine books for sale in the last few months than the Hyundai in 5 years-  not adding a book because of a low print run doesn't seem fair to the dedicated collector, plus it is in-fact a legit book and it belongs in the set- i too have already seen some graded-  so not sure why that book would get denied. (just my 2 cents)

I originally requested that this book (The Walking Dead #1 The Last Wine Variant) should be added to the two applicable sets (TWD 2003 and TWD 2003 with variants) on 12 December 2019. I was told that the book had not been graded by CGC yet.

Since then Sensei Ryan (5 January 2020) and Mr WalkingDead (16 January 2020) have both requested that this book should be added to those sets.

CGC has now graded the book - e.g. # 2546065003.

Please add the book as requested.

    Kind regards

    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,

This slot has been added. Thank you for your patience.

  5. Please add the following two comics to the set "Walking Dead (2003 Compete with Variants)".

    • Walking Dead - The Alien nn
    • Walking Dead 1 - The Last Wine Variant

Suggest place both of these after the Tyreese Special / before the Amazing Arizona Comic Con Edition (2014).

The first one (The Alien) should also be added to the set "Walking Dead (2003)" suggest at the end of the list, after "The Agents 6".

Both of these books are so new to the market there is little to no information pertaining to the story line or the availability of these books. The Walking Dead - The Last Wine Variant appears to have only been available in liquor stores. Due to this lack of information from reliable comic book sites and the fact we have yet to officially grade these of these comic, I am choosing to wait before adding them to the sets in order to obtain more information when it becomes available.

    Hi Gals and Guys,

I'm not sure how to introduce myself, but here goes.

I collected sports cards growing up and only collected comics for the past few years. My collection is mostly made up of raw comic books, but I'm thinking of getting some slabbed . I enjoy watching Superhero movies and that's what piqued my interest in comic books. I hope I can meet some similar people on here.

Welcome to the boards, My Lord*

    Interesting:

Vaughan says that The Walking Dead: Alien is "exclusively" on PanelSyndicate, which would rule out any print edition.

    https://www.newsarama.com/28935-brian-vaughan-opens-some-surprising-continuity-door-in-the-walking-dead-the-alien-one-shot.html

Originally, that WAS the case. You could obtain it for a donation (including $0) from Panel Syndicate.

NOW, it is definitely a real comic which was released for the 5th annual Local Comic Store Day (LCSD) on 23 November 2019.

All of your complaints are completely valid. You all have been so patient with the long turn times and I am so sorry for your waits. I've been a one woman show for a while and during the summer months (when I'm always on the road for Comic Cons) the waits are terrible. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel! I have decided to take a position with another company and I am passing the torch to a team of folks who will never be on the road. Up until my departure, I will be filling as many requests as I can. Hopefully, with the new change, your long waits will soon be over.

It has been my great pleasure working with you all, Ladies and Gents. Best wishes to you and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 9.9s and 10s in your future.

    All the best-

    Mollie D. (TheGirlHasNoName)

    Dear Mollie,

Thank you for all of your help over the last few years. The best people can invariably move on, and I am sure many of us will miss you and the excellent advice and support you have given us.

May I take this opportunity to wish you the best of luck in your new role.

    Best wishes

Mollie- could you please make the following books available to add to a custom set:

    2072846001 Los Muertos Vivientes
2072846002 Walking Dead #1 Walking Dead 1 2014 Salda Press Italian Edition/DVD Box Set Edition
    2072846007 Walking Dead #1 Peruvian Edition/Special Edition
    2073658012 Walking Dead #1 Italian Edition/Convention Edition

I think these are the only graded copies of these books- and they dont belong to any competitive set.  When i try to add them i get the error message:
"Unable to locate the comic based on the certification number. Please try again."

    Thank you!

Some international sets already exist (as noted below), and your two Italian books should slot into the Italian set beautifully.

As for Los Muertos Vivientes, this might be (?) a Mexican edition. If so, it will go into the set below.

The Peruvian set has not been created yet, but I will request this in due course.

    Argentina https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SetTypeDetail.aspx?SetTypeID=2489

    Italy https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SetTypeDetail.aspx?SetTypeID=4887

    Mexico https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SetTypeDetail.aspx?SetTypeID=4847

    Serbia https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SetTypeDetail.aspx?SetTypeID=1918

I would like the other sets to be created in due course, including Peru - also Germany, France, Sweden and others. But so far, I don't think any/many have been graded. I am keeping a loose watching brief on this.

    Regards

While most people might know what the heck is meant by NEWBIE --

some folks might not and the thread title-- for all they know might refer to someone who collects some title called "Newbie Comics"

Perhaps a small change might help direct brand new people to the proper starting forum-- so I propose we change the title of this forum to something very obvious.

New Users Starting Place to the CGC Message Forum

    or

Are you New to the website - enter here!

or something along those lines to make it both obvious to anyone -- feel free to shorten the forum titles - I am just spit balling here.

It might help us direct those completely new to the CGC world or collecting comics or even message boards themselves to start in the correct forum and avoid a ton of rookie mistakes. I realize when you initially sign up-- you are told about this forum-- but some people lurk first without realizing so many answers to common question are found here. In other words-- it might even help people who NEVER join the boards.

I support accurate, short, simple English names

In the UK, there is a "Crystal" mark awarded to organisations for use of crystal clear language.

And some people might need to be reminded that the founder, president and primary grader of Voldemort was also previously the president and primary grader of CGC. That doesn't mean the company is free of any issues, but some folks seem to think they are some fly-by-night Mom and Pop operation with garage sale grading skills.

Interesting - I didn't know that. Is it "Voldy" to advise newer members of the boards what / how this happened?

On the question first raised, I like CGC slabs. I bought one "Voldy" once because I wanted the comic, and immediately had it re-slabbed by CGC. Generally speaking, I just buy comics I like. For investments, I think there may be more reliable / less risky options. Younger people reading this, your pension should not be overlooked.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to purchase the $150 premium membership. I just had a question regarding cost of grading and what you guys average with it. With the discount of 10% and a $20 grading fee making it $18 after discount. Will I have any other fees added on to the final evaluation of grading the books if I only send them in for the grade and slab? I wont be doing a pressing or cleaning or anything just the grading. If it's $18 a book and I do 10 books should it be $180 plus the invoice of $5 and the shipping fee? Ideally i'd like to use the credit immediately with the books ive been selling and I've been reading on the forums that a lot of people like to send it 5+ books at a time usually.

I joined as a Premium Member two years ago and have just completed my third renewal. If you pay by continuous direct debit, the fee is reduced to $129, and you still get the $150 credit.

I save until I am ready to send in 25 books - the return shipping is the cheapest per book at that quantity.

I have had zero issues redeeming the credit, and I believe I will remain a member "forever" on those terms.

    Best wishes

Yeah, 1900-2000 seems to be the average, have seen a couple 9.8s go for a bit less in FB groups.  I just think it’s a bad time for this book tbh, the comic series ended, and the TV show is pretty much over (i hear anyway, I stopped watching it years ago)... I think it will need another shot in the arm to maintain this price level, let alone pump it up anymore in value... will be interesting to see what happens with this franchise.  Good luck with your sale!

Shot in the arm: Three TWD movies are being made by Universal... see recent info https://www.gamesradar.com/uk/walking-dead-movies/

I might be going the cleveland walkerfest just so i can pay to get in then pay each walking dead actor to sign there own issue, i know the tickets are a set price to get in but then i have to pay a few 100 a piece on just autographed cgc copies and non graded autographs. My Question is how much does a yellow label cost if you get your cgc 9.8 copy autographed?  Also how much does it cost just to get ungraded  copies graded,? And last question can i pay cgc with a credit card/ The only thing i know for a fact is that you have to pay the actors in cash. Also i live in Lehighton PA 18235 whats the closest event from where i live will you tell me wheres the closest cgc event or gathering, etc so i can get ungraded copies graded? Thanks hope to hear from you in a day or two

Hi GG87, You could also look for Signature Series comics on eBay - saves all the hassle of buying tickets, queuing, witnesses, shipping and the uncertainty of what grade you might receive. #JustSaying
