  1. Dear Mollie,

I noticed that the two super-duper-rare Serbian editions of The Walking Dead comics are rated no higher than their bookstand equivalents.

Please will you have a look at revising the scores for:

    1. Okruzen Mrtvima 2 Serbian Sketch Edition / https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=118543 AND

    2. Okruzen Mrtvima 10 Serbian Sketch Edition / https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=118538

The former (#2) was limited to just 50 copies of this B&W / sketch edition, and the latter (#10) to just 100. They both attract premium prices on the very few occasions they come to market.

I suggest score them closer to or equivalent to other very rare TWD comics such as:

    https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=228983 (limited to 25)

    https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=170462 (limited to 105)

    https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=150491 (limited to 500)

    https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=156484 (limited to 500)

    https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SlotScoreDetail.aspx?SlotID=228164 (limited to 500)

I also note that the CGC Registry Census Report is not working properly for these two comics - please correct this.

    Thank you :-)

    Stephen

  2. I have been interested in variant covers as my awareness of comic collecting increases. Reading this thread has only increased my interest.

As at August 2019, according to my research, the Top 10 comics with multiple numbers of different/variant covers is shown below.

    10: US Avengers #1 (2017), 64 variant covers

    9: Harley Quinn #1 (2016), 79 variant covers

    8: Star Wars #1 (2015), 85 covers

    7: Detective Comics (1937) #1000, 86 covers

    6: Vampirella #1 (2019), 89 covers

5: Dark Knight III, The Master Race #1 (2016), 91 covers

    =3: Godzilla: Kingdon of Monsters #1 (2011), 104 covers

    =3:Batman #50 (2016), 104 covers

    2: Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #666, 145 covers (including 141 comic shop variants)

1: The Walking Dead #1 (2003), 246 covers (including 151 comic shop variants) as described in my Journal - see below

That is really cool!  Hope to discover one someday.   Likely less expensive than rare comics like the Hyundai variant since it is not part of a set.

@BladeTX - I have two copies of this. I believe there were just 500, all given out at the NYCC 2013. They were both in great condition, and I had one of them CGC slabbed - came back at 9.8.

Happy to offer you the other one (which remains bagged but raw). If you want to trade, perhaps look at my 2003 with Variant set, and offer me something I don't have at 9.8?

    Hi Mollie,

Could you please add the following 3 books to the following sets

    BOOKS:

    1. Walking Dead #191 - cert #2043469011

    2. Walking Dead #192 - cert #2050211017

    3. Walking Dead #193 - cert #1574358055

    SETS:

    1. Walking Dead (2003)

    2. Walking Dead (2003 Complete with Variants)

    Thank you

    Hi Jason,

    Welcome to the boards!

The additions of these have already been requested, and no doubt Mollie will deal with adding them in due course.

For future reference, it is probably worth looking over earlier addition requests to save yourself some time and avoid duplications.

    Best wishes

    Stephen

  5. I have been thinking about the overall timeline for the TV shows. I have found this apparently well-researched link to the 3632 days (the whole TWD story so far is about 10 years) between the Wildfire virus first reanimating corpses / 3500 days since the "global outbreak" (this latter being 59 days before Rick wakes up in season 1, episode 01) and the end of season 9.

For example, from the global outbreak, which is suggested in real-world time as either 7 August or 14 October 2010, the CDC self-destructs on day 64, on the fifth day after Rick woke up. Abraham and Glenn die on day 598. Rick and Jadis depart by helicopter on day 1207 (3 years and 4 months). The pikes are on day 3407 (9 years and 4 months). It really helped me to start to understand the "time jumps".

The second link is to the FTWD timeline, which is of 994 days (just over 2.5 years) from Season 1, episode 01 up to the Season 5 mid-season break.

    TWD: https://walkingdead.fandom.com/wiki/The_Walking_Dead_TV_Show_Timeline

    FTWD: https://walkingdead.fandom.com/wiki/Fear_The_Walking_Dead_Timeline

It is not always clear how the two stories occur in parallel. It seems however reasonable to me to assume that the timelines are concurrent, as the global outbreak would likely be the same day across the US (+/- a day or so).

Can you update the last few issue numbers on the registry for the walking dead comics please. Thank you

    Happy to help, Mollie:

    1. To the WD (2003 Complete with Variants) set:

    191

    191 Second Printing

    192

192 Sketch Edition (a blank cover, but suggest 'Sketch Edition' to be in the same naming convention as the similarly presented #109 and #150)

    192 Commemorative Edition

    193

    193 Second Printing

193 Convention Edition (same naming convention as #181).

    2. To the WD (2003) set:

    191

    192

    193

Unless there are any future surprises, this should conclude these sets.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Stephen

Thanks, Stephen. That was just a note to myself that someone wrote in to customer service asking for WD to be updated. I normally hide them, so you guys don't get confused. Walking Dead should be up-to-date now. :( (I'll miss Walking Dead)

Noob question.... I prefer my comics in the cgc case not signed. However is it ok  to have the cgc cases signed?

Ditto revat and theCapraAegagrus. It is your collection, and so my advice would be to collect what you like. Remember that not everyone will like what you like, so bear this in mind if you think you might sell your collection or items from it one day.

The 'Sharpie' https://www.sharpie.com is probably the best pen to use, as it is the most permanent on shiny surfaces.

Question. If you send to PO Box fully insured do you get signature confirmation or what?  Sending my first batch.

I ship from the UK. Our post offices are no fans of PO Box addresses. So I ship to the full CGC address:

CGC, 5501 Communications Parkway, Sarasota, FL 34230, USA

I also insure to the full replacement value of the comics.

Hope this helps. Good luck (and high grades) with your first submission.

Doesn't it show a Signature book when you look at the specific book?  Oh, just checked - yes it does.  It'll also have a greater point value than a comparable graded book in the next person's registry.  I don't think this is needed...

Thanks for considering this, Yorik, and for replying. You your questions: Yes and Yes. By your reasoning, CGC should remove the photograph and notes symbols too (as when you open the specific book, both are showing).

But I remain of the view that a symbol to highlight the book as an SS would be a welcome addition. I hope there are a few like-minded supporters out there?

    Hey Stephen,

I am glad you requested the addition of the #193 2nd print but Mollie has asked us to wait till the books are graded and in CGC's system before requesting them to be added - that's why I didn't include the 2nd printing (and waited for the Commemorative Edition and re-requested it after your initial request for it to be added, too).  Not like it matters for future TWD books as apparently we're done (for now) but she can't create a slot for books that haven't been graded (so hopefully by the time she gets around to this request it will be in the system and won't be skipped over) - just for future reference. :foryou:

    Ryan

Oh, I thought you had overlooked 193/2nd. I just like the Registry to reflect the full collection at any point in time. I'm sure we both do :-)  I noticed that you had requested that the 193 SDCC Convention Edition was added - the convention was not held until this weekend 18-21 July, so suspect that had not been submitted/graded either!

Well done in the CGC Awards today - I am very pleased for you :-)

    Hey Mollie!

Can you please add to the Walking Dead (2003 Complete with Variants) set the following issues:

Walking Dead #192 Commemorative Edition (someone requested this prior to its release but now there should be graded copies)

    Walking Dead #193

Walking Dead #193 SDCC Convention Edition

and can you please add to the Walking Dead (2003) set the following issue:

    Walking Dead #193

Thank you for your help as always - we appreciate you!!!

    Ryan

    Hi Mollie!

Please also add to the Walking Dead (2003 Complete with Variants) set the following issue:

    Walking Dead #193 Second Printing

Thank you as ever - appreciated.

    Hi Stephen,

I've enjoyed our interactions together so please know I am showing an incredible amount of restraint here in my reply.   Your logic is flawed on so many levels.  I'll break it down into chunks like Ryan did.
    1.  Mollie works for CGC.   CGC's business model is to get as many people to submit comics for grading as possible.  The Registry ONLY exists to further promote the CGC model, to their benefit as we all compete by getting books graded, even some books we don't particularly want to get graded but need them for to complete a set.  It also keeps the secondary market for high grade 9.8, 9.9 and 10.0 graded book white hot for competitive collectors.   So don't worry if Mollie is spending extra time building sets - that's exactly what CGC wants her to do.

    2.  I am going to strongly disagree with the logic there should only be 1 Master TWD set that includes the variants.  First of all, that set is like 600 books now so can be a 6-figure deal to build the entire thing.  Second, even if I wanted to complete this one set, it is virtually impossible for me.  Why?  Because I was not on the "special list" of people who received all 151 store variants directly from Skybound  (152 I think if you include the one that was never released).  Do you know how impossible it would be to hunt down all those as raw books and then pray they are 9.8 worthy?   Honestly, except for you guys on the inside track, the full set is unattainable on the open market.

    3. I love TWD, and I wanted to build a set I could be proud of.  So I decided 1-48 would be perfect for me.   It allows me to do something no one else has done, at least in the Registry, which is to have all 50 books in that set Signature Series and eventually 2xSS.    I'm having fun with it.  I will tell you if that shorter set did not exist, I would have stopped buying TWD graded books except the keys and a few extra ones I liked.  The Registry set established a goal, and I've been enjoying the 2 years of effort to build it.

    4. I have all 60 of the 15ht Ann regular issues, except the 5 1:100 books.  All are high grade.  I think it would be cool to create that set.  Why would you be against that?

I don't criticize what people collect.  To each their own.  By the same logic, don't criticize what others want in the Registry.  It is petty and not your place.

    Hi BladeTX,

It's called a "Chat Board" or forum so we can "chat" and discuss matters. Such a chat pre-supposes that different people will have different views. You have read mine, and I am happy to hear yours. You may regard my view  "petty", but I reserve the right to express it, whether or not it accords with yours. As I said, I'm not a fan of multiple-upon-multiple, duplicated sets as has evolved in some of the titles you have mentioned. I have nothing to add, so lets move on :-)

    Cheers

    Stephen

  13. I love SS books. I have about 100. All of my books are listed in the CGC Registry. There is a small symbol in column #5 of the Registry which is presented when a book has one or more photograph/s, and a second symbol when a book has notes.

    Q. Is it possible that CGC could add a third symbol in column #5 (or elsewhere) to denote a Signature Series book?

  14. On 6/28/2019 at 3:16 AM, Sensei Ryan said:

    Stephen,

I'm going to address your past reply in sections:

    1. Check these out:

Walking Dead 1-48, Walking Dead Complete, + Walking Dead complete w/variants (note that all 3 sets contain issues #1-48 - also note that each registry set contains a minimum of 93 to a maximum of 322 participants with individual sets)

    +

Action Comics Sets (multiple) + Amazing Spiderman sets (multiple) (note the literal dozens of sets for each series with numerous overlaps and the immense amount of individual participant sets in each)

Do I also need to give you the examples of Batman, Detective Comics, Captain America, Fantastic Four, Uncanny X-Men, etc., etc, etc.?  Just because that you feel it's superfluous to have sets that contain the same books doesn't mean there aren't users who completely disagree and want them there (clearly, you see there is interest in what I'm proposing in other areas and I believe it exists in TWD as well).  I'm fully aware that Mollie is the one doing the work and if she doesn't feel they're necessary, she won't make them.  It's rare, however, that I see her do this and I vehemently disagree with you that there isn't a need or want for these sets.  I encourage anyone who reads this and either agrees with me or you to also weigh in on this subject.

    2. I know you feel that you were instrumental in helping get the store variants listed (and it's possible you were so I mean no offense by this) however Mollie was sent the same list you keep referencing direct from Skybound containing the entire list of store variant books (probably before you even contacted her about it as she's very in the loop on things).  On top of that, one of the many others of us (that collect TWD) would have requested to add the 15th anniversary variants and store variants to the complete TWD set at some point anyway so I don't feel how you requested their addition by sending them to Mollie matters in your dissent against my request. (shrug)  It would be comparable to me making a request for issue #298 getting added to the registry and feeling from that point on that I have some authority over what happens to them in other sets.

    3. In response to your 'it is creating work for Mollie' argument, everything we request is creating work for Mollie.  She encourages us to do this as it benefits CGC for us to collect the books in a friendly and competitive manner (the very basis of why the registry exists).  I would counter your argument by saying it would probably be easier for her to make these two sets because the books already exist in another set (so maybe it's easier to move them from one and copy them to another as opposed to creating all new slots with all new scores for other books).  The books exist, their scores exist, their slots exist....while I don't know the ins and outs of the software used to make them, I bet it's not as hard as you're making it seem.  Only Mollie can weigh in on that. So what I'm saying is that it's quite possible that it's easier to make these than making other sets from scratch.

    4. Lastly - and this is all I'll say on it - I could have - when you made the request to create the foreign edition set(s) - come on here and argued that since so few people collect it you could just as easily save Mollie the same work you're complaining about me creating her and made yourself a custom set with ALL your foreign editions in them (which is why the custom sets exist in the first place).  I, however, did not as a courtesy to you.  I'm fine with whatever Mollie decides to do with these but I feel there is enough interest to warrant creating both sets.  Not everyone wants to create and compete with their 15th anniversary books in the complete with variants set and would like to be competitive with a standalone set and to do this the only way they can is if a set exists for them.

I'm more than happy to keep discussing this with you - feel free to PM me on the manner so we don't clog up this thread.  However, on the contrary, I'll be happy to keep discussing this on here if you feel it needs to be debated more for all to see (but I don't believe it does).

    Ryan

Ryan, I believe we've both had our say, and expressed our views. I have nothing to add.

    Kind regards

    Stephen
