  1. While it was not something I was trying to complete I thought I would ask others who are interested in partial books if anyone else was surprised by the sale price of the New Adventure Comics 26 in the last HA sale?  I realize it is supposedly the rarest of all DC books, and it admittedly has a very cool cover, but I really thought this would go for less than half of the final hammer price.  Am I missing something or were there just two really motivated potential buyers?

  2. I bought some books from a thread that was closed. :)  Michael treated it like it was an important sale even though it wasn't a lot of money.  He double boxed the order and made a trip to the post office so it could get out quickly.  Great communication and a super nice guy.  I would gladly do business with him again.

  3. I have a lot of qualified books, mostly for married parts.  If the book is complete , it doesn't bother me at all.  I would not pay blue label prices for qualified of course, but it does bring a lot of books down to where I feel ok about budgeting for them and spending the money on them.  I also have a number that are restored.  If it bothered me that much I would not have bought them.  I also think that qualified, conserved and restored should be viewed differently for silver age and especially for golden age.  I think if someone is reinforcing a spine, or something like that, to strengthen a book, as long as they are disclosing it, I think it is fine to make the book last longer as the number of these books is set, and the demand (in many cases) exceeds the supply.

These 21 issues are the longest commitment that ADAM HUGHES has ever made to a monthly schedule.

He still had a few fill in issues in this run by other artists, but this run is mostly his... including most covers.

  6. I think it looks like a 5.0-5.5 to me, but with the discoloration on the right side of the front cover that could really hammer this book.  It seems, from my experience, that CGC really will hammer a water stain. I can't tell if that is what is present or not.  If it is, I would say my estimate is a full point too high.  It does have really nice eye appeal for a book of that grade.  :)

Addams and Evil book by Chas Addams 1947 Simon & Schuster

Classic New Yorker Magazine cartoons. Came out long before the iconic TV show.

Nice copy with original Dust Jacket. Jacket has just minimal wear with a few small bumps and edge tears. Small, light interior water stain. Book is excellent.

    $45.

Intrigue #1 (one shot) Jan 1955

A real doozy for Quality Pubs. They seemed to want to go out of the horror genre with a bang here. Throwing slaves overboard, whipping, feeding folks to alligators, guy getting graphically "hooked", skeletons and more. Nice Jack Cole art. One of the best of the Quality horror out put.

Some spine wear. Lots of small wrinkles and creases. A small piece out of lower right edge. Slightly rusty staples. A couple of small stains. But, a tight, well bound copy with great color and nothing to really mar this cool cover. Off white interior pages.

    $100.

    Pirates Comics #4 Sept-Oct 1950

Great art and stories in this series!

Nice, solid copy. Has a little spine wear. But still smooth and tight. Minor corner and edge wear. Has a letter "H" stamped on back cover. Well attached copy with no splits, tears, missing pieces or major creases. Slightly yellowed but supple interior paper.

    $35.

    Shadow V8#4 July 1948

Classic Powell cover! The best of the run in my opinion.

A real tragedy here. 3 interior pages are torn out...:sorry:Spine is rolled and has some tears. Top staple is torn loose but still attached to book at bottom. Numerous small edge tears, wrinkles and creases. Luckily, no real color breaks on this black cover. Small stain on back cover at bottom. Interior pages are nice. Rich, dark colors. I have owned this a long time until I finally found a somewhat reasonably priced upgrade. Still worth it for this classic cover.

    $50.
