The caveat being you only can own the comics from that series in that decade. So you would be able to own all the issues that ran from Jan 1st of the start of the decade to Dec 31st of the end of the decade (ex. Playing off my other thread. The criteria is as follows: 1: 24 issues or less. 2: Must have been conceived as having a beginning, middle, and end. 3 : No One Shots. 4: Has historical significance to comics. My votes are for DKR, COIE, Secret Wars, Watchman, The Long Halloween. Thoughts?

So to the posters. Does the first criteria need to be separated into 2 parts and choose from there: Ongoing series ( AC, DC, ASM, FF etc.) Limited or Mini Series ( DKR, Watchmen, Preacher, Sandman) that were conceived and executed with a beginning, middle and end. Thoughts?

It did. But if you asked anyone whose not a Comics fan who Jesse Custer is you would get a lot of blank stares. You would have a lot better luck asking them if the knew who Rick Grimes was.

MFC also had Aquaman, whose 2nd movie is coming out. Showcase had Green Lantern, Hawk and Dove, Creeper, etc. Adventure Comics has LOSH, General Zod, Superboy etc. B&B had the Justice League, Teen Titans, Suicide Squad, then became a Batman team book. When you dig into them there is a lot to unpack not to mention they lasted for more than 30+ years and were cross generational and adapted there subject matter to the times. Shonen Jump had DragonBall, One-Piece, Bleach, Naruto on and on. It's easier to name singular characters that didn't debut in it.

Some great responses. However, with some of them do ignore the last criteria of Cultural Impact. Books like Transmetropolitan, Grendel, Cerebus, 100 Bullets, Preacher, are great books but lack any significant Cultural Impact. They definitely contribute to the historical aspect of comics and influence but for the general public wouldn't ring any bells.

Part of the reason I set the bar at 100 issues or 10 years is that it shows a level of consistency. 3 or 4 bad issues in a row can kill a series. There may have been a dud issue for every 10 issues of the first hundred or so of ASM but it was that continued storytelling consistency that drove it to great heights. But Longevity is just one of the criteria.

That's sort of the point. Best of the the Best. Someone said ASM and FF. Those 2 series could be solely defined by the first decade or so as being their peak. While others could say some series, like Uncanny X-Men, didn't start to be great until it reached the 100+ issue mark.

So far I have 3 Criteria for consideration for choosing a series. 1: Longevity (Minimum 100 issues or 10+ Years of Publication in an unbroken run) 2: Historical Significance/Contributions to Comics 3: Cultural Impact So far I have 5 series. It all depends on your timeline. If you need immediate cash your going to be taking a bigger hit on your ROI for your collection. I have found that bundling a key in with a bulk lot will usually help sell the lot and you can realize I higher price point on those non-keys than if you sold them off separately. Honestly, it's all about your timeline and how much work you want to put in. And remember Dealers are not in it to make YOU money.

Better off selling them yourself. You may take a 15-20% haircut through Shipping, time spent, etc. But you'll be taking a 40-50% haircut selling to dealers. Take The Sandman series you're selling. It's a hot series right now cause of the Netflix series. Other than number 1 and 8 you'll be offered cover price at best on the rest (I don't know the condition but you seem like you'll have taken care of them so we'll average them out at 9.2s) as they are raw. You'll get maybe $250-300 for that 75 issue series at best. However, if you wait and as a new character is introduced you can drop the "hot" issue on Ebay at the going average and get 10x what a dealer would offer. My 2c.

ST109 is first cameo appearance. ST110 is first full appearance and the blue chipper because of the cover. IMHO I think that if All-Star 8 had Wonder Woman on the cover it would easily be in the ballpark of what AC1 and Tec27 sell for today. As it doesn't, it lags far behind. Same deal for ST110. Imagine how much that book would be if it had the Doctor Strange 169 cover.
