  1. Timelys of that era were fairly inconsistent in terms of width. I've seen books that look so narrow with info clipped on the right edge that they look heavily trimmed at first glance, but ended up with a blue label. For fc eye-appeal, there isn't any advantage to moving the centerfold from one to the other. What's on the missing page - story or advertising? I'd have someone make a high quality reproduction of the CF which you could trim up to marry properly, and wait for a nicer copy ( yes I know the book is not that common) to marry the real CF to. I doubt its trimmed; just a difference in production. Still, you have two #3s so you've just about cornered the market.
  2. So, I bought this off of eBay and it arrived today. Weirdest packaging I've ever seen. It was sealed, without a backing board, in a plastic bag with a solid plastic clip closing the top opening, The bag was put between two Styrofoam sheets and then placed into an unpadded priority envelope. When I got the package my heart sank when I saw the envelope and I was really sad when I opened it and found the book sticking out above the Styrofoam about half an inch. Still, the book arrived without any shipping damage that I can find!
  3. All are nice books but I'm a tad partial to this one!
  4. Wow! That red is rocking! Congratulations!
  5. Congrats. That's a great looking copy. +1 Beautiful! I held a CGC 9.4 copy in my hands a few months ago - it was stunning. One of my grails is a 9.4 of this book. I love this cover.
  6. 1) Think Purple Man without the Purple. 2) Love Octopus' Garden 3) Bruce Lee, Ben Franklin, Marilyn Monroe
  7. Nice book! My in-laws always buy me Archie stuff... it's sweet of them, but it's always like a sheet of Archie stamps, or the latest "Best Of" printed by Archie Comics or Craig Yoe. Totally appreciated of course, but I'd rather have gift cards to eBay or Metro, or Ha if they did them. My parents on the other hand still inquire from time to time if there's a certain book they can buy me for a birthday or holiday. Suppose even at 40 I'm still their little kid. I know what you mean. My family knows my wife and I love Disney so they are always giving us inexpensive Disney themed items like ornaments and the like. Mickey is not my favorite Disney character but in their mind he IS Disney. Still, I appreciate their trying! My mom would buy me a comic but she is terrified of being ripped off. Its easier to give me a check at birthday and Christmas and then asking what I bought.
  8. Nice looking 2.0. Want to swap in-laws? How much in eBay bucks would they give me? "You should live so long" is about what you would get.
  9. Great choice of books! My inlaws are gone now but were very cool as well. They really didn't understand my collecting addiction or why I collected what I did. It was just something we never discussed. They REALLY hated my motorcycle... My future inlaws even drew a map for my future wife to come visit me at the comic book store where I worked. Now that's some Grade A support right there! Nobody supported my interest in motorcycles either. Although, I did buy a camaro at the age of 16 and, in my mind, that was far more dangerous. I'm surprised my back isn't permanently out of wack from the back seat alone.

  11. Thanks and I am blessed with great in-laws!
  12. In-Laws gave me eBay gift certificates for Christmas and I have been waiting to find just the right purchase. I wanted to buy something I would love but would be outside of my normal collecting focus.
  13. Won this in a Heritage auction a few weeks ago.
  14. Woohoo! Marty with a superhero Timely! Very nice, Marty.
  15. Let's hope never! +1 There is already to much price competition on these!
  16. I did not have an LCS in my hometown and it never occurred to me to look for one in Oklahoma City until I went to College in 1985. I started visiting New World Comics at their Meridian location and I was hooked. I bought a lot of books from the owner Bill "Bash" Bates and his manager Barry. Great guys who treated me well; so well that I ended up working there for a few years from 91 until I married and moved to Tulsa in 93. Bill has since sold it, retired, started a new store in OKC, sold it, and retired again. I loved that place.
