So this is a Hot book now? Really? Seriously?

BTW Thor 281 - 282 , a nice little story and some of Pollards best work - lot of really cool backgrounds by him and Marcos especially in 281.

Very tiny CGC population compared to other books recent MCU has made hot - probably due to apathy and 40 years of sitting in dealer's discount bins.

Nice Book!  Good to see Pollard getting some love even though those most of those now seeking the issue have no idea who he is :)

I mean, I haven't seen it and you haven't seen it, but I've heard from a very credible source its been offered around to collectors privately going back 2-3 years.

We haven't seen a HA auction for it, okay, but it exists.

Until proof is demonstrated then it might as well be Action #1 :)   Also I don't understand the true topic ask anyhow :)

again, the interiors did get some damage.  but my understanding is they were restored.

And GSX1 cover is on CAF.

You'll notice that her statement doesn't specifically address the H181 cover.   "Story" is ambiguous at the very least but I think she's referring to the interiors, not the cover.

    Ok.

However, the 181 cover is not confirmed to exist
. If we are talking about all art that is not confirmed extant than it would dwarfed by the value of Action #1 and Detective #27.

BTW at the time Mr Wein did not want it know what he truly owned out of fear.

Today would be millions. As it turned out the GS X-Men 1 cover was not in his home, perhaps it was pre-lim or not published. The published OA was already owned by Eurotrip co-writer Mandel at that point; https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=536337

If this topic is not limited to OA confirmed to actually exist then you might as well just state Action #1 and Detective #27 and and close it down :)  I don't think much else would top those 2 in final Auction Hammer price.

Almost all the DC titles from that month carried the MOTU preview.

Yep, that is the reason not in higher demand it appears in about half of DC books cover dated Nov 1982.  My favorites of which are  NTT 25, JLA 208, Daring Adventures of Supergirl #1, All-Star Squadron 15, Captain Carrot 9.

I sold my entire high grade DC digest collection to "vane" (I think that's his name) a few years ago.

I grew up reading Archie digests, so have always had a fondness for them. I also found it to be a greater challenge to assemble high grade collections of the non-superhero digests.

Cool :) as I picked up the majority of Vanes collection. Still smarting over I was a few days late for the Best of DC #3 "Super Friends".

If possible PM me with list of any Digest you have available that is CGC graded.

I've decided to start downsizing my comic digest collection, but am not in a hurry. So I decided to create a website: http://bronzeagecomicdigests.weebly.com and see what happens. No DC digests, but plenty of Archie, Gold Key, Dennis the Menace, etc. -- books that are typically hard to find in high grade. And I have hundreds of them.

Anyway, if you're into digests, this is an excellent source for higher grade books - especially those published between 1968 and 1987. I'm not often on the forums, but I can be reached via email at eroussin@rogers.com .

Why no DC?  Given my digest collection is exclusively DC, I'm taking it a tad personally

  8. My first (owned not read) Groo issue and still my favorite is Eclipse's Groo Special 1 from 10/84.  I recall for decades it had a higher value than Groo #1 due the low distribution.

The comic shop I got mine from back then only had placed the minimum order which as I recall was 3 pieces. Luckily I found one I thought was is nice shape and treated it very carefully as during my childhood $2 was a decent sum to me. Fast forward 17 years later I sent to CGC and received what I believe was the first 9.8 of the book.

It's actual value though is not relevant to me though as my actual childhood copy graded CGC 9.8w in 1st gen slab is priceless.

  9. One of the earliest CGC slabs from the few months before they started to note page quality on the labels

The stitched together android "photoscan" makes the right side of the book appear to have waves or wrinkles when it does not - I have to get a better pic :) as its a much sharper looking book than the pic shows.

Ran across this in a box I picked up at an auction a few years back.

Don't remember seeing it posted in any thread...maybe I missed it,

but I thought it was an interesting cover.

I recall when the Original Art for that cover hit eBay in 2002/2003 it went then for what at the time was a high price of $3500.  I recall that as I had just picked up (and still own) a 1975 WW Cover for $600 on eBay and thought that was high sum to pay. My guess is today #229 Cover would be in the 20-25K range.

It does when others are dropping art on what seems like a daily basis  lol

I think on a recent Comic Art Fans internet cast he alluded to not doing frequent drops by design.

Ol' Albert is doing quite well folks you need not be worried.
