Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
MAY1979 replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
At this juncture picking up steam may be defined as simply as holding its ground. -
IMHO anyone who purchased it at 9K was not smart in the first place. Chances are though someone that oblivious still thinks their specific copy is an exception and has actually appreciated in value

Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
MAY1979 replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
Agreed, but their numbers are thinning. Also for many "followers" Comics will becomes sooooo very 2020/2021. Expect less wild swings as we head into 2023 and the next few years beyond. P.S. Yes, there will always be outliers I'm talking market in general. -

Insurance limit is only $1000 with Fedex unless you have it packed by authorized FedEx rep. This adds approx 5-6x the cost to the shipping. https://blog.gocollect.com/the-dangers-of-shipping-comic-books/ Following is my opinion and not directed at anyone here: I've never had a single positive experience with Fedex and have found their stanchest defenders to be those who have a vested fiscal interest in doing so.

Great Cover! 5.5. 6.0 with a professional class press.

MAY1979 replied to comicjoe1234's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Seeing some color loss on the heavy impact bottom right bend. Also it may be the pic but seeing some staining in the bend area as well. 7.5. 8.0 with a quality press. -
Books I want to own....... drooling on the cover....Superman 234
MAY1979 commented on dover's journal entry in Dover's Journal
Supe's is being dropped from high above the Earth's surface and the innovative angle used points mostly up to the skies. No need for a background as there should not be one, other than Sky, Sun, and sliver of Earth. For me 234 ranks right up there with 252 as my favorite Adams Superman cover. Glad when I had shot at the raw Oakland copy I grabbed it, and just as glad I had it slabbed during the 1st gen CGC slab era. -
Moronic if it's seller trying to earn a living, but if a person just looking to occasionally get lucky and sell an item for some extra scratch then it makes sense. Either way it is most certainly a D 1 C K move

The Official Groo Appreciation Thread!
MAY1979 replied to mrwoogieman's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Groo is settling back to full niche status! Supply now vastly exceeds demand. My guess is if a Pacific #1 came up for standard auction and was not manipulated would currently sell for $150-$175. Auction Manipulation (legal or not) works great during a bubble or upturn when nearly everything is in demand, simply does not work in bear market. There are so many comic books out there and now significantly less buyers and dwindling every day. Most Comic book sellers from what I've seen over the years do not understand economic principles. Those without proper knowledge of the principles and associated actions will be in for very lean times. Those with the true business acumen who realize things like cash flow is king will get by just fine. Throw your GPA, "gocollect", etc for the past 2 years out the window , the times they are a changin'. P.S. Sellers: think cash flow not theoretical max profit per item. If you do not understand or agree with that take some business and economic courses - seriously. -
Ahh so you squeezed what you can from it already.

Decent top/bottom centering which I've found to be uncommon for this book. 7.5

Destroyer Duck1 now under $600 in 9.8, $500 threshold to be tested next. My opinion is it will be a $300-$375 book in 3-6 months, which may be is going rate for a while. I do not think it will drop further. Look for Pacific #1 to ride the downward coattails to find its new level as well. Groo price levels falling to where they probably should have organically been all along is good news as Groo will be working its way in the hands of true collectors. Speculators and Flippers had their day one year ago after the nothing burger news of animation exploration rights, but now those days are gone. Long Live Groo! -
It's been a while since I've been scammed on ebay.....
MAY1979 replied to gadzukes's topic in Comics General
Fact: If a seller scams a buyer and the buyer does not realize they have been had, a corporation like eBay makes their bank. Opinion: Why should a firm bother to truly eliminate scams when at least some of the time they fiscally benefit from them? Bottom line: Corporations such as eBay care only about their Bottom Line. See the Fact listed above. -

IMHO asking for free assistance with grading on this forum, then only revealing grades via linked youtube video to obtain hits is akin to school on Christmas -

Attempting to collect DC Showcase 1-104 in 9.0 or better!
MAY1979 replied to FloridianDemon's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Change of mind? IMHO not scarce just few submitted due to low demand. Rather standard in my experience for DC non key Bronze. $62 is probably about all it would command in fair auction which is why many won't take on cost of submission as if 9.8 grade not obtained it's pretty much lost money. Now based on your quest I can assume we'll see some highly inflated prices on that era of Showcase for awhile. -
It's how it's still done at 130point, but is GPA currently paying eBay for that API call to do so? They may have in past, but question is it still the case?
-
Those are very extreme - wow. 10-40% I feel is fair depending on item and initial price if seller has "make offer". I offered $225 on a $240 fixed priced item that seller had enabled "make offer" last week and was declined. So no shortage of d-bagery on either side of fence. One thing to keep in mind; Given the economy and what will be coming today's perceived low ball might be tomorrows very fair offer.
