  1. It was intended to only be 3 issues.
  2. It was a weak end to a once proud title.
  3. Every copy I recall seeing of CM62 seems to have a pretty much perfect wrap.
  4. This thread has become a Mining Disaster
  5. Got this back a few months ago. As I recall it was my first ever purchase from Harley Yee back in 1995. 1st Ann Margrock
  6. Careful with top-loaders for long term storage of books as stuff tends to get a bit wavy inside them. While it's never happened to me with a trading card has occurred with Comic Art. Luckily with art it's not an issue with a comic it would be.
  7. All depends on how deep is your love.

  9. I do as well even though Charlton almost never showed him as the correct color!
  10. Love Mike's site and spend far too much time on it The last page of Weird War 63 indicates the next issue #64 would be on sale during 2nd week of March. Tuesday was the day new Comic Books were delivered to newsstand first back then. The only question is by second week did they mean 2nd Tuesday - meaning was WW63 referring to March 7 or March 14, 1978? As for the Gold Key much harder to pinpoint but keep this in mind; T-Zone was not a monthly publication not sure if any Gold Key 's were at that stage. Zone 83 has a indicia date of April 1978. #84 had an indicia date of June 1978. Zone 83 was really March/April 1978 and Zone #84 May/June 1978. This means #84 was likley first on-sale early in Feb also plausible is last Tuesday of Jan 1978. Simply no way that as late as April 6 is correct. It's less than 2 months from it's June (really May/June) indicia/cover date in addition April 6 1978 was a Thursday which is proof date is wrong. I'm sure Overstreet, Gold Key historians and many others have been down the same path. There is a reason WW64 is denoted as Millers first DC work rather than 1st overall work. I've only respect for Mike's site on the whole but the sale dates they list are error prone and I'm sure Mike and folks will be first to admit that. Edit: Mike's Data aligns with Comics Reader 154 and 155. Still I question if the Reader data is correct as it does not jibe with the Zone publication schedule. We have a situation where its plausible Zone 84 was first and where WW64 was first. The mystery continues... In either case notations referring to Zone 85 as Millers 2nd work are wrong what we have proved is it's his 3rd pro work.
  11. My LCS closed for good June 2020. Landlord would not budge and gov payout not enough to cover rent. Bad timing in that his lease expired days before Mar 2020 lockdown
  12. I've been employed at Fortune 20 firms the last 26 years, agreed in many ways they operate more arse backwards than the Fed gov! Do whatever you can to boost your next bonus and F the future.
  13. overall opinion on grading then compared to modern day.
  14. There will be more. Most won't be "replaced" until the next boom in a decade or 2
  15. Is it just me or have there been lot of similar posts like this the past few months. Not sure if the original post is true or troll but the best way to see is how much longer the poster stays around. My guess is we get a maximum of 1 more post then never again. BTW: anyone who expects a "mint" book purchased raw off eBay, needs to closely analyze that logic. As some may know I'm a super strict very harsh grader and have sent hundreds of book I purchased raw when new from my LCS, I've never received a single 9.9 or 10. Those grades are exceptions of the highest order. Now perhaps if I crudely stapled an acetate on those books I could get them Mint grades?
  16. Great grade. In past year I've received 9.4's for pre-1975 books that look 9.6 or more and I'm very strict. Yet 1975-1978 stuff I tend to get higher than I expected. My take on it is this. 1975-1978 books are being graded by newer modern graders. Initially they were expecting post 1980's attributes on books and were very harsh on the 1970's stuff. Then a correction took place as they learned the craft better and no longer are as harsh on the mid bronze stuff. However they are now too lenient. No offense but your book displays like a 8.0/8.5 ... The worst of it is on 1972-1974 books which do not fall under modern and the old school graders expect them to be perfect as they are not Silver or older....
  17. As I recall this self-submitted Action 500, was the first 9.8 copy on the census. A $7.00 purchase in 1998 from Showcase New England. An ultra sharp copy, the scans don't do it justice.
  18. Pretty sure I paid near double 1998 guide on it. Given how sharp both covers are it was a no-brainer.
  19. $10 each Raw from Motor City at a 1998 con. #2 is my only slabbed double cover.
  20. Yep, Current Membership provides significantly less actual benefit than in the past. With the parent company being Blackst0ne this falls right in line with their business model. Expect the cost of membership to rise and benefits of the membership to decease. On 2 things will change that: 1) Submissions thus profits fall sharply. Of course at that point Blackst0ne will simply sell off CGC 2) TRULY valid competition emerges, then #1 on this list occurs.
  21. In 1978 the definition was change to:
  22. Here's one from 1999 I've posted a few times before. Early in CGC operation (testing?) is was not uncommon for page quality not be considered. From my records I won this on eBay in April 2000 for $41 which back then was a bit high. It was my first CGC book that was not 9.6 or 9.8.
