  1. To get a 9.8 would require a large amount of luck. Sure it could happen but very low odds it will. ow/w of a HUGE population Copper Age book in itself is reason enough to not resubmitting. Sometimes one simply must "let it go". I myself got back a book recently WWBN15 9.6 that I feel with a quality 3rd party press will be a 9.8. However pages are OW. So I took the "let it go" advice.
  2. Of course it's not impossible but it will take an investment to do so. Then you have the CGC DB how is the fake barcode/number going to get in there? This limits fakes to duplicating existing barcode numbers. High ticket Comics - someone mentioned Action 1 earlier - will be a good way to get nabbed as due to press and $ involved will get the Fed involved. This also will not fool those who buy the book and not the label - meaning those like myself who will only purchase slabbed comics they can examine first or return without issue. I've turned down plenty of CGC books over the years as they did not make my personal cut. Not arguing the grades just have defects that are no my cup o' tea The more fakes that enter the hobby the easier it will be to identify them. In this contraction phase of the hobby probably not the wisest time to start such an enterprise as the first to leave are the "suckers" Bottom line if counterfeiting the higher ticket items (Action 1, AF15, Bats 1, Supes 1, A-SC8, 'tec 27, Showcase 4, Hulk 1, FF1, etc and so on) will only get the perpetrator caught and is the expense of the machinations involved worth it?
  3. Little feet also means tiny little you know what.
  4. Prediction for low of the 9.8w direct sales in the next 6 months? My guess is 2.6-2.9K given supply/population level seems about right. It will get to 5K average again but that will likley be 10+ years out as another movie ain't going to cut it this time for anything more than a tiny bump/blip Due to VAST supply 9.4 and lower direct sales copies will take a real good beating over the next year or more. Those who paid $1200+ for a 9.4 or near $1000 for a 9.2 may want to divest before they hemorrhage out. My guess is a 9.2 direct sales in 6-8 months will breach $400 downwards threshold and that buyers will be able to pick up 9.4 direct sales for less than the current 9.2 going rate. Make note I am not referring to newsstands in this post. While logic would dictate a matching liner path in percentage downward, newsstand purchase prices at least to me seem illogical at times.
  5. Correct if done by government or law enforcement. When done by comic book dealers at a con it is in effect battery. Folks do keep in mind the law is the law! Unless you have serious money.
  6. Not much to explain away here. Just Economics 101 in play. 9.6's, 9.4's and lower Direct Sale 194's taking larger hits on ROI's if book was purchased in 2020 or 2021. Those who purchased direct sales copies at 1.2K + for 9.4 and over 2k+ for 194 are no longer doing "OK" on the book. Lowering my stabilization target spread on 194 direct sale 9.8's over the next 12 months from 2.5k to $1500-$1900 Lesson to be learned here folks perhaps as simple as beware of bubbles or never purchase a book for the collection when it's red hot...? During the pandemic bubble, Investors/Flippers/Speculators were buying just books like this and selling them for a profit. Nearly every Non-DC book was viewed as a sure thing. Online "influencers" ,Speculators, and CGC Board Thread CGC Board Sellers, were all downplaying that books like ASM 194 could EVER go down. Skilled Comic book (and Economically Knowledgeable) market naysayers were scoffed at because times were good. There was no such thing as overpaying for a book because prices rose and there was no end in sight. How could the sky be falling when everything was rising in value? ENTER THE BEAR! P.S. I do expect some dead-cat bounces at auctions. Likely manipulated by sellers holding multiples of 194 however that is poor strategy in bear market. Throw out your GPA as Bubble numbers from 2020-early 2022 are meaningless when the Bear has burst it. Think books like Direct Sale ASM 194 and 300 can't drop to below 2020 levels? I've no idea, but the final say belongs to the Bear. Please note Newsstand Edition sales can be irrational. Although one would expect them to follow Direct Sale prices in similar linear percentages downward they can deviate. Thus my post above does NOT refer to Newsstand 194's.
  7. You joke, but 'zactly the type dealers need to BOLO.
  8. Based on what i've seen since pandemic started that's perhaps a coin flip at best
  9. Like many books Thing 1 hit its bloated height during pandemic bubble. It's a first issue without any firsts, not much to offer to the jump on bandwagon crowd.
  10. ^ if you do think about vault solution mentioned please ensure to perform significant due diligence about the vendor. For you own Safe utilize plenty of desiccant (replaced or recharged on a regular basis) as Safes tend to hold in (and sort of condense) humidity which may lead to rusted staples. "Obviously I want the safe to provide an acceptable standard of theft, fire, and water prevention" : When I was attending College I briefly sold Safes for commissions at a small retail outlet. Decide which of those 3 options is your greatest concern and target that. Getting something that does all these of those things at even an average level is a challenge no "off the rack" safe of any decent size will ever truly meet. Keep in mind water resistance (not proofing) can be achieved in either a Fire or Burglary rated unit by using decent quality plastic "bags". Again don't skimp on desiccant unless you live in near desert like environment. - Read into how fire Safes actually protect from fire and come to you own conclusion if targeting that option for condition sensitive paper collectibles is best. - For Burglary Class B at Bare Minimum, Class C is my own personal minimum and it ain't cheap. Class C is 1/2" body and 1" door. However, Ideally you want 1" (even more pricey) Hardened Body and Door using a quality Dial mechanism. A good burglar safe will buy you time, no home unit is impenetrable. If the thief is prepared, knowledgeable and has a long clock to work with they will get in, only a question of how long. Safe's rated lower than Class C required a lot less time and preparation to break into. - Regardless of weight - BOLT the safe down! That won't work so well with a Fire Rated unit as to do it in the most secure manner, which is from within the safe, will void the fire protection. Anyhow I only sold them for a short while 20 or so years back. Best of luck!
  11. You may have hit jackpot. Makes no sense with the color loss present on original scans. Is slabbed one the same book?
  12. 8.5 / 9.0 Very sound overall the upper left back is going to get hammered a bit.
  13. Spectre fans can be rabid for vintage covers. Totally understandable as there are not many from Silver or Bronze Age, and they nearly all classics by either Anderson, Adams, and Aparo. Glad I snagged one 2 decades ago
  14. I was thinking Heritage planned this DEC auction earlier in year before the current financial situation took hold. If I was selling I'd much prefer to not to be in a Dec auction. But yeah it also seems like this was overflow as well.
  15. yeah, exactly the sale to which I was referring. I say again; "At this juncture picking up steam may be defined as simply as holding its ground." - rather than very steep decline below that sale.
  16. Interweb boards in general....an allegory perhaps for society as a whole?
  17. .65 cent era did not last long. Marvel and Archie only IIRC. For me its always been a bit of an oddity to see it on a book.
