  1. Love those 20,25,30,35 cent Marvel Tales. As kid I used to picked them up in discount bins. It's how I first read Spidey books before my time.
  2. If it was "Name That Tune" someone writing simply 2006 or even better '06 would have won
  3. Folks is there a "King-Size" or "King-Size Annual" topic in Bronze? If not, does it sound like good idea?
  4. You need to post to this thread and perhaps toss in a "please" as the person doing the work does not have it easy ;
  5. Same as Nova background mentioned in my last post, the only difference is the purchase price of this one in 1996 was $12. It can't be seen on this scan, but the amount of gloss on this copy is incredible. IMHO a Classic Cover and Schomberg homage by Romita
  6. Back this past week after it's one year sojourn for pressing and grading. Had very minor ripple on back, no idea if it would have affected the grade or not. A September 1996 $10 mail purchase from Motor City. Back then I sometimes ordered from Michael by mail, and if I did not agree with the grade I'd return at a con for credit on in person purchases. Love that original Nova helmet
  7. Simply staple an acetate over it and it will get a blue label. For an extra fee you can also get a 9.9 or 10 grade.
  8. Adventures Mini #1. When I picked up the book as kid as I recall, all copies at my LCS were in rough shape or had light back cover rippling. I went with the later and made a note in my Comics notebook to seek a better copy, something I never followed through on. Last Sept (2021) I self-evaluated the book and except for the light ripple it was pretty much flawless. I sent it and some other Comics to be pressed which I never had really done before. Received it back recently - glad i sprung for a press, although I do wonder it was another case of my being too strict and would it have received a 9.8 anyhow? I'll never know... Love the back cover as I'm a huge Stones fan.
  9. Back in the Mid 1990's I routinely attended a local show mainly to visit one specific dealers table. The dealer, Rino, was friendly and one of the most honest I've ever met. His prices were usually a little below guide as his goal was to move merchandise not to simply display it like many dealers do. Rino hoping you are still with us buddy!. In a submission that made it way home to me this month after almost 1 year, 2 of those "Rino" books were included. This was the first time I had a full submission pressed first. All due to tiny non-color breaking issues on back covers. Both books were purchased in Jan 1995, the Marvel Spotlight was $5 the Spider-Woman was $3. I knew the Spotlight would not get 9.8 but before pressing was very a borderline 9.6 and yeah I knew the pages would fall short of White. I think the Spotlight has dropped 60% in FMV from the time I first decided to submit it Glad to have both these books back for the old memories attached.
  10. https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/auctionschedule.asp#Past Auction Results Most of their past auction data they make available at above link. Possible they just don't want to spend any money modernizing their tech to accommodate API or other reasons but privacy does not seem to have anything to do with it. Comiclink is a decent venue overall but the site being nearly 20 years out of date tech and feature-wise IMHO does them no favors.
  11. <sarcasm> Yes I can tell that by the way they they do not advertise their current past record breaking sales </sarcasm>
  12. From the center of the universe? BTW: I'm glad for your money saving decision.
  13. The "new" Hudson Yards is at 33 and 10th. Plenty of slightly upscale food joints at the Citizen NY Fool Hall/Court there. It's a 5 minute walk from Javits. Also the new Hudson yards mall across the street has a lot of nice dining. again it 5 min or less walk from convention center. If you stay in Nassau ; ensure to verify on https://new.mta.info/alerts that the trains will be running that weekend. For the past year each weekend, some lines especially the LIRR main line which Hicksville is on, have closed for repair/maintenance as well as to prep for the new East Side Access slated for Dec. P.S. be sure to purchase LIRR tickets before boarding train or cost will be nearly double plus everyone will enjoy make fun of you. You can also purchase via the app; https://new.mta.info/guides/apps
  14. My guess given how antiquated clinks site is their back-ends are no different thus no API. 1999 called - it wants its website back
  15. yeah on the published it looks like shes just mindless dancing in the background i also artistically prefer the background coloring on this one. AAv2#1 cover I saw long before I ever did the X-Men 1963 #1 cover - although the mid 80's it was pre-internet/WWW.
  16. Pics are nice always difficult for me to determine high grade from pics but I feel you have a 9.6/9.8 candidate Upper left back area in the blue may have some very minor color loss. Sadly CGC seems to put more weight on tiny amount of color loss than on many other of what I consider far more serious defects. If it is color loss, 9.6 is likley the threshold.
  17. Wrong number on Cover, the printer stuck on the number for that month's Adventure Comics Digest on some copies. CGC also mislabeled it, it's actually #34. Only a mislabel as it is correct on the CGC verification; https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/1050891016/ . Also its another CPV that CGC did NOT note as such. Hi @CGC Mike , I am not the original submitter, I purchased the book a few years back. Any chance CGC will still make good on their errors and correct them?
  18. @CGC Mike Please look at this obvious error and bring in your new QC Mgr. A solid guess is book got a grade meant for some other comic. You want to help improve CGC perception? Then do not throw out lines like "we stand by this grade" look at this and be honest. Everyone makes mistakes how a person or firm reacts to them is what defines them. Huge Props the original Poster as most people woudl take the wrong grade when in their favor and sell the book immediately. IMHO this book is a 7.5/8.0 at absolute best
  19. It is why I expanded my parameters for a while. Wild guess is that 1/3 of the time I would not have purchased the book if i had seen it up close first. Yes I did find one such seller who I was able to work out fair deals with. I also do deal with WW, Reece and MCS as if an issue can returns books usually with out any problems. My point was is on the whole fixed price auctions are generally overpriced comics in which seemingly a sellers a goal is to ensnare a rube. A seller may not lose money on fixed price item but if it goes unsold they have not made money either. If you sell to put food on the table and meet the rent then you need to have cash flowing in, during a downturn over-priced fixed stuff will sit. IMHO it's not a quality business strategy unless you have the resources to weather the current storm which will get much worse before it gets better. For the Bulk of books the theme song for the near and mid-term future is "Free fallin', now I'm free fallin', now I'm... Oh, free fallin'"
  20. I've never been fortunate enough to come across a grossly under-priced comic book listing.
  21. Fixed priced graded comics on eBay are usually very overpriced. Most books I want can be found for less with a modicum of patience. Couple that with I prefer to examine a book in hand before purchasing means I almost never do fixed priced deal. Again for oddballs and 1/1's I do make exceptions. 3 books in my current signature represent those occurrences.
  22. Like many art collectors who were in the hobby back in 2005-2007 I have a pile of Gold Key 1960-1980s cartoon based covers. Heritage was selling off the stuff from Western files. Multi-Cover lots included but were not limited to; Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny and Looney Toons related, Tom & Jerry, and many many more. Several of those Covers I picked up the comics were only issued in "rare" 3 pre-packs. My guess is those pre-pack issues in high grade would command more than the original cover art. Collectors can be finicky. Still the OCA is 1/1 item and no more will ever come to light.... The collecting pool for comics dwarfs OCA.While I feel OCA will prevail most of the time, case by case may apply.
  23. With exception of odd-ball's and 1/1's, I never buy fixed price books.
  24. Following in suite with any TMNT book I send for grading the FMV drops as soon as I ship my childhood copy to CGC. Its happened with my Turtles 5,6 Donatello 1 and other Turtles books. Now that my grade just popped expect a massive free-fall for 1988 mini TMNT Adventures 1 ;sigh Probably mirrors the hobby as whole but still....
