  1. OK, spill! What's the big purchase? (If you say that it's a TMNT #1 I will probably laugh at you . . . just sayin'.)
  2. Those are tough acts to follow! I didn't do much buying this year. Out of the few books that I purchased, this Bomber Comics #3 would have to be my favorite acquisition. I like covers that are a little out of the ordinary.
  3. Diminutive character skilled with daggers to diminutive characters skilled with carving knives.
  4. I guess Clint's star was already on the rise; he has a much more prominent position on the cover than Eric Fleming, who had the lead in the show.
  5. When they auction off a 9.4 or better Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 with white pages, then they'll get my vote.
  6. The buyers of these Promise books are every bit as smart as that character from The Princess Bride, and he was a genius. He said so himself.
  7. 6.5 Off-white-to-white 1950s sci-fi book to 6.5 off-white-to-white 1950s sci-fi book.
  8. I bought this book on eBay about twenty years ago as a Poughkeepsie file copy. I submitted it to CGC as such a couple of years ago, and they noted "File Copy" on the label even though I didn't offer any proof (nor did the eBay seller offer any to me). I purchased this New Funnies as a file copy from Sparkle City in 1988, and CGC acknowledged the File Copy status without proof. I also received the designation on this SA book without proof.
  9. Things got off track, so how about from punching and Battle to punching in a battle . . .
  10. I don't have any interest in SA or BA, so I always have to hunt through the forums to look for GA offerings. I voted to split them.
  11. L. B. Cole was massively popular long before slabbing was around. I know one guy whose focus was L. B. Cole covers as early as the 1970s. (He still has his collection, but his books are not high grade.) L. B. Cole had a big enough following early enough that there are many copies of his books locked away in private collections. You may have to wait a while before the nicest ones come to market, though. Call it a hunch.
  12. Does a hobby need "legitimacy?" I mean, isn't serving as a diversion—a way to pass the idle hours—the only purpose of a hobby? I'm not sure how legitimacy comes into play. If people are enjoying the hobby, then the hobby is serving the only purpose that any hobby needs to serve. I don't see how it could be more or less legitimate than painting by number, flying model airplanes, knitting, or any other hobby.
  13. I think that there are more raw 9.6 AF15s out there—possibly many more. We're still seeing OO GA collections come to market; I won't even venture a guess regarding how many OO SA collections are still out there. Still, you can never underestimate how much some guys are willing to spend in order to have the "best" copy of a mega-key (even though they're only impressing the 0.0001% of the population that actually cares).
  14. I think you're underestimating inflation/how big of a bubble the hobby is in right now. There are only so many people with the resources to buy a 7-figure book, so that bubble may not extend to those mega-keys, but I personally think that it will. I think that this copy will have no problem hitting $3 million.
  15. This collection has given me a new appreciation for the care that ol' Edgar must have put into selecting copies from the newsstand. Many of the Promise books seem to have funky cuts; they must represent a random sample of what was on the stands. By comparison, the Church books nearly all seem to have good, square cuts. That must not have been a coincidence. Edgar must have made a conscious effort to avoid mis-cut books, otherwise there would be more of them in the Church collection.
