  1. Alas, poor Yorick, he missed out on his book! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Great thread! It looks like Flanagan's finest work was was outside of the comic industry, but of his comic book covers, I think like the More Fun 45 the best.
  2. People are underestimating how much inflation has occurred in the past 18 months. I'm going to predict that it will reach $1.5 million easily because $1.5 million in December 2021 dollars is probably less that $1 million in December 2019 dollars. I think it'll be a while before we can gauge inflation with some perspective.
  3. There's a perfect place in my house for the girl on the cover. I'm with the dude on the left—it may be fun.
  4. At one time I planned to upgrade this copy, but the Promise Collection opened my eyes about grading. Now I don't care.
  5. For me, the Okajima story is good, but not good enough to make up for the writing on the cover. I may be one of the only collectors who would rather have a NON-camp example for my collection.
  6. Yeah, I don't actually think the he submitted the artwork, that was probably done by a staff artist as well.
  7. Only the poem (and possibly the artwork) in the lower right-hand corner was by Kamen. The issue is Fight 21.
  8. Only the poem in the lower righthand corner was submitted by Kamen The artwork in the center must have been done by one of Fiction House's staff, possibly Nicholas Viscardi (known to Silver-Age DC fans as Nick Cardy). He was their resident pornogra—I mean, he was their resident "good" girl artist.
  9. Here is more interior art from the same issue. I don't know who the artist is on these, but the poem was sent in by Private Jack Kamen of Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.
  10. Good pick ups, both. I forgot to bid in the CLink auction last night. With the weekend starting, I always seen to forget about Friday auctions.
  11. Some people just have to spend money if they have it. I've had people like that in my own family. Americans are sitting on more cash than they have been in decades, and prices are going to stay high until people burn through all the cash that they're sitting on right now. Massive inflation is already here, but people don't realize it yet. They will.
  12. Bid your max beforehand and then don't watch the auction. HA has auctioneering down to a science. During the auction they have bells, buzzers, a virtual auctioneer, and flashing red lights all sending signals to your brain saying, "Life will never, ever be even a little bit good ever again if you don't purchase—strike that—if you don't WIN this particular book at this particular moment." MK Ultra had nothing on the folks at Heritage.
  13. Re. PL17: I wish you hadn't said that. The more I gaze into her eyes, the more I'm tempted to add that book to my want list—which could prove costly.
  14. 42 + 5.5 = 41 + 6.5. Green cover with white pages to green top edge with white pages.
  15. You never said that the GGA had to be on a cover, so here is some interior art by Nicholas Viscardi. (He would have been 21 years old when he produced this centerfold!)
  16. I picked up one beater that was not in a CGC holder and was not close to the top of the census. The high-grade books that I was tracking were too far out of line with previous sales for my comfort level. I picked up this book because my one and only contribution to the Grand Comics Database was my observation that the cover depicts a story from the ninth issue.
  17. I almost bought the Black Cat 35 Mile High copy from cheetah several years ago, but then my brother went into the hospital because of a suicide attempt, and I got distracted from comics for a few weeks. I guess Gabe must have bought it. I was thinking about bidding on it, but it's already at $6K! I never dreamt that it would go that high, I'm definitely out of the running.
  18. There are high grade horror books out there with nice pages, but many of them are still raw. Doesn't Flex Mentallo—is his name Michael? I can't remember—have a collection of killer high-grade horror books with nice pages? Early 50s romance, on the other hand . . . those seem to be genuinely rare. Maybe the print runs were small to begin with.
  19. My take on it is that if I'm going to buy a book with extensive restoration, then I might as well just buy a reprint for $10.
  20. With extensive resto, my guess would be $20—$30K. What's your prediction?
  21. I wonder how much the person who writes the copy for CLink's auction listings makes. The exuberance and enthusiasm in some of those listings is so over the top that I'm sometimes not sure whether the person is serious or is trying to be funny. (I have actually laughed out loud more than once while reading CLink listings.)
