  1. The high-grade copies seem to be selling for high prices. I can't help but think that a small number of devotees must be bidding against one another. I can't imagine that very many collectors would be interested in that title.
  2. It's just a li'l ol' bindery tear . . . nothing a few dabs of wheat paste couldn't mend. The Mile High books have proved that comics with wheat paste at the top and bottom of the spine can still get universal labels, so just CPR it (Crack, Paste, Re-submit).
  3. The cover art reminded me of Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder," so I checked, and sure enough, that's what it is! Weird Science-Fantasy to Fantastic Worlds and Al to Alex.
  4. Yes, after posting, I looked at the admission prices and decided I couldn't justify going. I just don't think that there would be enough high-grade GA books.
  5. It may be a good strategy, but it seems like it would require a substantial time commitment to learn about moderns. I would have had no idea that the two Hulks were anything but dollar-bin books.
  6. I've had to pay a premium versus pre-Covid prices even for non-pedigree books (with the exception of some low-grade filler copies that I've picked up.) I picked up this 9.4 copy of Planet 39 for $4,800 (which I considered a very high price) right before COVID hit; the 9.2 Promise copy just sold for $8,400. I'm not sure how much of that is due to the hype around the promise collection and how much is due to inflation. ETA: The price on the Rangers 49 doesn't surprise me, but even with the current market, I would have expected the Wings 102 to stay under $200.
  7. The Promise copy certainly has inferior eye appeal. The Crowley book fetched a very strong price for a 7.5. The Crowley copy was graded back in 2003, when CGC's page-quality standards were stricter. The Crowley book would likely get an OW or even OW/W designation if it were graded today.
  8. That is some nice artwork! Now that I've been discussing those books, I'll have to finally read them.
  9. Ghoulish hands of multiple unseen baddies to ghoulish hands and arms of one ghoulish baddie.
  10. That will probably be true long term, but there's such a feeding frenzy around these Promise books right now that it may not be true at the moment.
  11. Street & Smith Platinum Age to Street & Smith Golden Age.
  12. It is a little surprising. I don't care about pedigrees too much aside from wanting to acquire one example of each GA pedigree (possibly excluding the ones with mediocre page quality, like Denver). I would always rather have a non-ped if the pages are nicer or if the page quality is the same and the grade is higher.
  13. I haven't been to a con in over 20 years now. The cons here in the Detroit area never have much GA material. Maybe I'll go to the next Motor City Comicon just for old times' sake. I don't like paying the high admission prices that the cons charge now, but I think that the Motor City show might have half-price admission on Sunday.
  14. Cover with a buxom woman, a shark, and a knife to same.
