  1. That will probably be true long term, but there's such a feeding frenzy around these Promise books right now that it may not be true at the moment.
  2. Street & Smith Platinum Age to Street & Smith Golden Age.
  3. It is a little surprising. I don't care about pedigrees too much aside from wanting to acquire one example of each GA pedigree (possibly excluding the ones with mediocre page quality, like Denver). I would always rather have a non-ped if the pages are nicer or if the page quality is the same and the grade is higher.
  4. I haven't been to a con in over 20 years now. The cons here in the Detroit area never have much GA material. Maybe I'll go to the next Motor City Comicon just for old times' sake. I don't like paying the high admission prices that the cons charge now, but I think that the Motor City show might have half-price admission on Sunday.
  5. Cover with a buxom woman, a shark, and a knife to same.
  6. I've only put purchased 2 Promise books, but from what I've seen, they are not as fresh as Mile Highs or White Mountains. I would say that they're fresher than Crowleys and Northfords—and pretty comparable to Bethlehems, Pennsylvanias, and Ohios. The Promise books got some grade bumps beyond what most pedigree books get, so a 9.2 Promise is not as nice as a 9.2 Ohio, etc.—but the freshness is comparable.
  7. Long matches under the fingernails to short matches under the fingernails.
  8. Parachutist in the air to parachutist on the ground.
  9. I guess it true what they say—"There's no disputing about tastes." To me, that's one of the most boring Pep covers. I'd much rather have a Pep 34.
  10. Two black-and-white mammals with a bird to two black-and-white mammals with a bird.
  11. 1949 and a blonde in a hat to 1949 and a blonde in a helmet.
  12. I've heard of the CBG, but I didn't realize that it was still in print. I've never read a copy.
  13. I haven't gotten around to reading these two, but I like the artwork on the dust jackets. ETA: I'm vehemently against trophy hunting, but I hope to learn something from the books.
  14. 7.5/WHITE horror book from 1954 to 7.5/WHITE horror book from 1954.
  15. Now, if you tell me that you remember when a 7-Up was a candy bar, then I'll know you're old.
