  1. Overstreet = amalgamation of prices from various sources direct vs indirect = distribution method Ergo not apples to apples
  2. A pitcher of Margaritas should cure all of the above 🍹🍹🍹
  3. This was a very fair price for the book at that time.
  4. I sold what I needed in order to raise some funds for University. This was all prior to the formation of CGC
  5. I used to think like this, but I’ve become more cynical recently. i believe it’s done to inflate the value of their piece while undervaluing yours, in order to create a valuation discrepancy and take advantage of some lesser experienced collectors
  6. I suppose it’s because of the significant number of comic shops that existed locally back in 1988, before the boom/bust of sports card stores that sold comics, too. the options for acquiring Direct copies was nearly limitless, and convenient, and bags and boards were included for free on new releases. additionally, if you’re concerned about condition (I was), then a spinner rack or newsstand was not the place to go.
  7. Good question. I kept about a dozen copies of my original 80 copy purchase from 1988, and I would say that I made my decision to purchase 68 more copies sometime in June 2019. early in my purchasing, I was picking up 9.2’s, 9.4’s, but I quickly became more selective and I’ve focused on 9.6’s and 9.8’s, especially those with deep red front cover colours...it really makes the book stand out.
  8. 😂😂😂 I’m not one of those guys to pursue newsstand vs direct, but your comment made me take a second look at the collection. Seems like one of the 9.6’s is a newsstand, while everything else is direct.
  9. I already posted my update to the Copper Age thread and someone reminded me to post here, too.
  10. Hi, ASM 300 aficionados! While I continue to wait for some additional copies to be returned from CGC, I decided to take some group pics from part of my collection. here are some details: all are sig series, except for 1 copy that I picked up recently with Todd and Stan’s sigs directly on the CGC case most are signed by 4 creators who worked on ASM 300 - McFarlane, Salicrup (editor), Sharen (colorist & tough sig to get... he also coloured McHulk 340), Parker (lettered & Beavis & Butthead artist) a handful of issues also have Stan’s sig 3 copies in 9.8 19 copies in 9.6 7 copies in 9.4 4 copies in 9.2 1 copy in 8.5 sooooo, that’s a lot of copies, but I’m always looking for more as I continue my personal quest of obtaining 80 copies (that’s the number of copies I purchased when the comic was published). hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I do.
  11. Hi, All: while I await 8 or 9 more copies to return from various signatures/CGC grading, I decided to take some pics today of some of my ASM 300 collection. the pics will be posted in the ASM 300 appreciation thread within the next 30 minutes.
  12. Based on recent sales this weekend, it seems as though prices continue to maintain or strengthen upon recent gains: CGC 9.8 Blue Label, Direct Oct 2 = $4.9K Oct 3 = $5.2K Oct 3 = $4K CGC 9.6 Blue Label, Direct Oct 3 = $1475 (2 sales @ this price on the same day) Sep 30 = $1.5K CGC 9.4 Blue Label, Direct Oct 1 = $850 Oct 2 = $810
  13. Hi, all; I've posted some great comics for sale on ebay, including several Golden Age comics, McFarlane Signature Series comics, an a few Silverage books, too. All of my auctions can be viewed here: https://www.ebay.com/sch/jjonahjameson1/m.html?item=154113417046&hash=item23e1e01f56%3Ag%3AIeIAAOSwIB9fdh6S&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
  14. Ending today...current bid is only $112 so there's still a lot of room for someone to get a great deal on the book
  15. Some pics of the 9.8 that I picked up today...the case has some scratches and smudges so I’ll get it re-holdered . Signatures are directly on the cgc case.
  16. Just a few comments on the quoted post above...the $2.6K sale on 9/2 was approximately 10-15% lower than the majority of sales during the weeks immediately before and after its sale. Secondly there wasn't a $5.5K sale...that was the BIN price. That book sold for $4.9K and is an outlier. Roughly speaking, the current average price for a CGC Blue label 9.8 with white pages is approximately $3.8K for public sales. I can't speak to prices for private sale. I will recuse myself from speculating on future prices for this book as I have a vested interest in achieving my personal goal of 80 copies. I will say this: Government stimulus has provided some collectors with more funds to pursue their collecting goals and as such, we've seen a significant spike in the price of ASM 238, 252, 300, Hulk 240, Thor 337, Star Wars 42, Secret Wars 8, etc. ASM 300 is not isolated when it comes to these strong price hikes In speaking with fellow collectors, there seems to be a new found collective appreciation for this book now based on its age (30+ years), significance (is there a more important/popular character created during the past 30 years?), prominence in the collective mainstream (Decent 1st movie; 2nd movie awaiting release)? Will be cool to see what Disney does with the character. I think this is the mainstream book that Copper Age collectors have now targeted as a "must have" for their collections Sure, demand (and price) will peak, then plateau, then peak again. We've seen this cycle with ASM 129, Hulk 181, and other books. Ultimately, time will tell, but I have a strong suspicion this book is nowhere near its potential value.
  17. Happy to share that I've added another copy to my collection. Its a CGC 9.8 blue label, and its a sweet book, but this one's a little different because it has Todd and Stan's signatures on the case instead of being on (or in) the comic. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and I'll put up a pic to share it with you all
